2.8 Bottle. Ruby raspberry pour with a big pink head. Wheat, bread, caramel. Not a lot of aroma. Medium to light body with relatively sweet creamy bubbles. Slight bitter finish. Not bad. Interesting...
3.3 Pours a clear pinkish red with a light pink head. Aroma of bread, toast light caramel and grass hops. Taste is grassy hops, bread, berries, light pale malts and a nice bitterness throughout. Funky beer but better than most think.
3.3 12oz bottle, reddish-amber color, with a beige-orange head, with a mild grainy toasted, caramel, pale, bready malt, barley sugar nose, with some pie crust, oatmeal granola bar, toffee, faint nutty notes, with a subtle floral green tobacco leaf, grassy hop accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice sweet grainy toasted, biscuity, bready, caramelized malty character, with an earthy flowery green leafy, grassy hoppy, kind of artificial food coloring flavours, with a nutty undertone, leading towards a grainy toasted, caramel, biscuity, pale maltiness, lingering earthy grassy, leafy, tobacco hop bitterness finish.
3.2 Bottle. It is like a magic trick! Pours a ruby red grapefruit color with a thick pink head. Not at all what you would expect from a October marzen style brew. Has a slightly sweet matlzy with a hoppy after finish. Like all Schmaltz products, very surprisingly good!
1.9 A reddish marzen with a thin pinkish white head. In aroma, sweet tobacco strawberry with signs of oxidation. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with leather, oxidation, not very good. Shared with GRM.
2.8 YGTBSM! Looks like cherry soda, but thankfully doesn’t taste like it. Has a fairly sweet malty taste along with caramel and a substantial hop bitterness to round it off. I love Schmaltz products, but I’m a little indifferent to this one.
3.8 Not going to lie I bought way into the gimmick here. Come on, it’s (allegedly) 6.66% abv, that’s pretty cool. It pours this beautiful red color with a pinkish head. It has a very sweet fairly fruity aroma. Taste is fairly fruity with a hint of hops, it has a very schmaltzy taste to it if you know what I’m saying. It’s a valiant effort to make a lager I’d actually want to drink and I am genuinely happy I had this.
4.0 This is an ok beer. I’m not a lager guy and I usually hate all lagers, but I don’t hate this one. The aroma is sweet and it kind of tastes like a beery kool-aid of some sort. It is blood orange and looks great, especially considering the theme of the beer.
2.7 Too mild for its own good. Bready and stale with a slick, stale body. Mild sweetness.
2.6 12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL for $3.99/6-pack. Red!
3.6 This one is from Shmaltz and I think it must have been put out in October for Halloween as it was in the clearance section. When you pour it it’s quite red, even with my colorblindness it seems off. The head is all pink. Most definitely a Halloween beer! It’s quite sweet, I’d rank it just a tad below the sweetness of a Innis and Gunn. Some honey and malt. Other than the obviously fake color I kind of like the flavor. I might pick up some next season and try some more from Schmaltz.
3.3 on Draft, because my cat bafted .. . very deep ruby .. . great lacing .. . mild head .. . soapy, ribs, and deep red malts .. . muddled .. . . i miss that cat Domino, that cat was straight thug!
3.0 Long Island, NY - 12 oz. bottle pours a spike fruit punch red with pinkish cloudy head. Aroma is surprisingly hoppy taste was malty with appropriate hops. Deceptively decent
2.5 Pours a bright red color with a foamy pink head. Burnt raspberry, powered sugar, and bread batter.
2.5 Pours "blood red" like they say it does, and has a minimal pink head that dissipates. Has aromas of licorice, artificial sweetener, bread, and a bit of caramel. Has a slight hop bite, and is in between a light and medium sweetness. This beer is really light and bland. Drinkalbe for sure, but this beer is way overpriced for what it is. A big dissapointment from an excellent brewery.
2.0 Don’t expect an Octoberfest/marzen here. 12 oz bottle. Pours bright red- artificial look w/pink head that mostly dissipates. Slight bubbles stay. Hard to pinpoint flavor, weak twizzler a little tart, hint of beet; is not very good. Mostly bitter impression. 3.5 BD
1.9 Bottle-kind of reminds me of the line from Airplane! when the controller talks about the pilot landing the plane, "Geez, this moron is all over the place." Fizzy red pour with a pink head, some kind of fruity aroma, my brain says cherry, but that’s because of the color. The taste is a bad marzen of malts, becoming overwhelmed by hops. Metallic finish. Good thing it was only 99 cents. Produce place.
2.4 Pours a clear raspberry red with small redish pink head that seems to last. Aromas of light malt and light earthy hops. Flavours are mild bitterness, fruity, grapefruit, minimal sweetness.
1.9 Definitely an odd beer. Pours a hazy raspberry red with a rocky pink head that leaves a bunch of sticky lace. Faint nose but I could get some herbal hoppiness and some blood-red orange fruitiness. Flavor was earthy and semi-bland with a semi-fruity slick blood orange fruitiness, mild bitterness, and a bit of toast. Not a fan.
2.7 Bottle from JB long ago. I had forgotten this in the beer cellar behind other beers. Pours hazy red with pink fizzy head. Aroma of earthy hop and malt. Flavor is malty, earthy, lightly sweet, earthy astringent bitter in finish. Light-medium body with high carbonation. Might have been old bottle, I did not enjoy this.
2.4 Pours a deep red color with a medium sized pink head. The aroma is fairly faint. I get a bit of biscuit malt, as well as some toffee and a bit of earth. The flavor is also fairly faint. I get some sweet caramel malt but that is about it. There is a little earth and grass, as well as some metallic notes. Also, as the beer warms, I get some medicinal character that is not good. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Pass on this one.
3.8 From the Schmaltz Brewery, Freaktoberfest is an interesting and tasty beer treat! Pours blood red and perfectly clear, head is a bit on the pink side and lacing is not bad at all. Caramel malts, grains, sweet toasty malts, and a little fruit make up the aroma. Taste wise it’s not too far off from a Marzen or Octoberfest. Nice caramel malts and toasty, bready malts make up the bulk of the flavor. Hop bitterness is present in a balancing way, but isn’t the main attribute. It grows some as it warms though. Body is lager-y and pretty easy drinking, yet full and right on the money for a marzen or Octoberfest style beer. I think it’s another very interesting beer from Schmaltz, one of my favorite US breweries!
3.5 Bottle. Red color, pinkish red head. Rather hoppy tasting for a marzen beer. But still good. Aroma is hay, bread, grass.
3.2 It poured an awesome reddish/pinkish color with an off-white head. The aroma was of hops and some fruit. The taste was between the fruit and wheat and lived up to its name. Very different, and not bad.
3.0 Pours a reddish amber with a pinkish hued slowly fading medium head. Aroma and Taste of toasted barley, some caramel malt, yeast bready notes with some fruity esters, some mild bitterness. Palate is a medium body, crisp with good carbonation. Finishes with some toasted barley, malt, yeast a bit of fruity flavor and light bitterness. Overall not withstanding the pink head an ok drinking brew.
2.9 Clear red pour with a pink head. Bready aroma with some cranberry. Taste is hop bitterness, bready malt and tart cranberry. Hop bitterness lingers in the finish.
2.9 Cask at Hay Merchant. Pours a clear pinkish red with large creamy pink head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is A floral hop and pine. Medoum mouthfeel with a bitter hop bite and bitter finish. A decent brew from coney Island.
3.0 Reddish brown with a small pink head. Lots of fruit comes through on the nose including raspberries. Not expected. Medium mouthfeel. Fruitiness comes though with a touch of bitter hops.
2.3 first let me say this is not an octoberfest nor marzen, forget about that. This is some kind of rouge colored beer that may think its approaching fest intaste but never gets there. Yes, it is purplish red on the pour. BTW had this on tap at bocktown monaca. Smells like any other clean beer. Thin creamy head. Nice lacing. Weird flavors of bitter sensations. Finish is medicinal. Yes, you can be sure this is not an october fest - I’d say it is a veggie spice beer.
2.7 Reddish orange cloudy pour with light pink head. Aroma of malts, barley mash, wet hay and caramel. Taste of of caramel, malts, hops and corn syrup. Medium carbonation. This beer is kind of a mess.
