2.8 (bottle) deep amber. Sweet malt aroma. Somewhat viscous, syrupy malt flavor.
3.5 Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Deep amber red with an average sized off-white head. Aroma is of nuts, bread dough, caramel and malt. Taste is of malt and caramel.
4.1 Hazy and creamy head. huge yeast aroma, has a whiskey note as well and some cereal and cherry notes. Big beer, with a hot finish and a big profile and a sweet flavour. Great beer!!
3.4 Bomber. Mostly clear brown-ish orange, small lasting creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt and fruity yeast. Sweet caramel toasted malts dominate the taste, fruity and boozy, some light bitterness. Average carbonation, medium-full bodied, lightly hopped. Packs a wallop, the high ABV and dense sweet maltiness make this lager NFL (Not For Lagerboys)
3.3 Clear mahogany pour with a tan head. Molasses and rum on the nose with lots of cooked fruit, brown sugar. Really boozy on the palate with a deep fruit character and some whiskey notes. Robust in body.
3.4 brown with a large tan head and long retention. roast, dark fruits, toffee, raisin, sugar, harsh biting hops. heavy cloying sweetness, medium bitterness. full body, creamy feel, moderate carb, long bitter finish. a very "American" interpretation of a doppelbock. the bitterness is honestly overdone for the style and it starts to feel more like a really dark barleywine instead.
3.9 I love the mouthfeel of this beer. it’s like a werthers original lolly. big bright malt bomb. slightly too much alcohol in the aroma and taste, but just slightly. really delicious otherwise
1.8 Smells like a barleywine, very little head... good taste on the front end but way too bitter on the finish.. kills the experience.... very flavorful, malty and hoppy all at once! Couldnt finish...and gave me the runs the next morning
3.3 Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, with hints of fruit. Pours a clear dark amber with a mostly lasting tan head and ample laciing. The taste is moderately sweet. Toasted malts, caramel, with hints of dark fruit and an alcohal presence. There is a lingering alcohal burn in the aftertaste. Medium body with medium carbonation. Overall, while tasty, I wish it was less sweet.
3.8 big thick slightly syrupy mouth with caramel and milk chocolate. Very malty. Sweet and yummy
3.0 I think I have figured out I am not a big fan of dopplebocks outside of ceoebrator... like others I have tried, this has too much cloying sweetness, big pine hops and a little too much alcohol in taste. a bomber of this just gets old after awhild
0.9 Fruity, slightly sweet aroma. Beginning to taste sweeter as it warms. Too bad. The sweetness ruins it for me. Perhaps I’m having an off night. Just not a fan of this style.
4.4 Dark with large off-white head. Aroma of malts and fruits (sort of wine-like). Complex taste, malts, grapes, chocolate, cranberry, coffee, slight breadiness, alcohol. A great complex beer, high alcohol too!
3.2 Bottle from mane liquor. Pours an amber/copper colour with off white head. Aromas of dried fruit and sugary sweetness. Taste is quite sweet, caramel and fruits. Okay.
4.5 Grass malt city in the aroma. This is very malty and tons of caramel. I like this. Almost has a barleywine feel to it. Excellent.
3.6 Sweet but not cloying. A bit of a apple juice via black currant vibe. Very unique but a it heavy on the palate after a it. I like it, but a bomber is definitely a ’sharing is caring’ experience with this one.
3.4 Draft. Beernutz. Poured a copper color. Aroma of grains and caramel. Medium sweetness. Molasses notes, brown sugar notes, and caramel, earthy, grains. Not bad. Warming alcohol.
2.3 Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a thick frothy light tan head. Nose is very sweet and malty, with just a hint of a bite to it. Taste is a little harsh like a barleywine. Odd beer.
3.6 Bottle. Dark amber in color. Good off white head, small amount of lace. Aroma was dried fruit, slight caramel. Taste seemed a little too hoppy for a Doppelbock. Overall not bad but not my favorite.
4.2 Coney Island Human Blockhead has a thick, creamy, cascading, tan head, a clear, copper appearance, and some lacing left on the glass. The head really sticks around with this one. The aroma is faint, but one detects sweet beer and brown bread. Taste is of a strong piney hop aroma, which is not picked up in the barrel-aged version of this brew. The drinker also gets brown bread, sweetness, rye spice, and a bit of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium, and Coney Island Human Blockhead finishes mostly dry, refreshing, and quite drinkable for an imperial bock. Overall, this is a most excellent beer, and I highly recommend it. RJT
3.5 Bomber bottle poured clear reddish hue w/ a medium frothy tan head slowly diminishing to a nice cap and some lacing. Moderate aromas of rum soaked raisins, prune, molasses, biscuit, and toffee. Initial flavor is heavy sweet with a light bitter finish of long duration. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, toast, nuttiness, biscuit, pepper, and some yeast esters. Full bodied, creamy mouthfeel, lively carbonation and moderate alcohol in the finish. Sip this one like brandy.
3.3 650 ml. Clear ruby-chestnut with a lasting ring of cream. Aroma is cherry, toffee, brandy and a hint of dried grass. Flavor is the same mix with some woody hops and a medicinal note as well. Medium heavy body is smoothly carbonated and sweet, but well dried and warmed by the alcohol. Decent, but a bit too boozy for my tastes.
4.0 From the bottle, it pours nice mahogany brown with some moderate, ashen tan foam, dissipating sort of quickly. Full caramel aroma with a little booze and notes of floral hops. It’s a little syrupy, nicely sweet, with some toasty bread crust bitterness, some warm and spice. It’s a delicious brew. AND SHOUT TO DONNY V! I can’t believe it!
3.5 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear reddish copper color with a nice 2 finger dense light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of caramel, raisin, prune, molasses, toast, nuttiness, biscuit, toffee, earth, herbal, and slight esters. Nice aromas with good strength, balance, and complexity. Taste of caramel, molasses, raisin, prune, toast, nuttiness, biscuit, earth, herbal spiciness, and some yeast esters. Lingering notes of caramel, molasses, raisin, toast, nuttiness, bread, toffee, herbal, and light esters on the finish for a good bit of time. Good balance and robustness of flavors; a bit too estery at times; some mild cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is decently well hidden with only a moderate warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a solid imperial doppelbock. Some nice flavor robustness and balance; and fairly smooth to sip on. A bit estery at times, but still quite enjoyable; though definitely a slow sipper. This improved a lot as it warmed up to room temperature.
3.3 Pours a clear amber with a full light tan head. Aroma is wet grain with a slight grassy perfuminess from the hops. Taste is a mouthcoating, quite sweet (not cloying) toasted maltiness with a buttery alcohol aftertaste that seems pretty well balanced. Not especially hoppy, but a pleasant bitterness in the taste is present. Pretty fine, but certainly not my favorite doppel.
2.5 amber pour with little to no head. Alcohol was dominant and a lot of sweetness. Preferred the sword swallower
3.4 22 oz. bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a clear deep copper color with a one and a half finger thick light tan head. Aroma is toasted malt. Flavor is toasted malt and esters. The esters linger in the finish. Medium body. A nice beer. Definitely like the BA version better. Thanks Jason.
1.2 An absolute mess of a doppelbock. Sweetness to all fuck. One of the most diabetes-ridden beers I have had, WOOOOW.
2.3 Pours a clear amber color with a white head. Head dissipates quickly andeaves very little lace. Smells of faint malt and booze. Tastes of booze right away then the sweetness of malts hits then finishes with booze. Am disappointed as I expected more from this beer.
3.2 Bottle. Pours clear amber with a medium, frothy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is dates, figs, and plums with cookie and toast malt, and light spicy hops. Flavor is sweet malt, dates and plums, light hops and bitterness with a cloying sweet finish. Medium-full body and medium carbonation.
