Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner

Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner

Mermaids, those mysterious aquatic lovelies, have popped up all over the world in legend since 1000 BC. No scientific evidence has ever surfaced to support their existence, but we’re not ones to argue with folklore.

3.2 Pint at 525LEX Restaurant in NY. Pours clear golden with white head. Pilsner malt with floral hops. Nice bitter and dry finish.
2.8 Tap. Pours mostly clear gold. Aroma and flavor are pilsner malt, floral notes, faint citrus, and some lager yeast esters. Light body
3.5 LCI. Uit de fles geschonken. Heerlijke pils: wat zoetig, moutig, smaakvol. Zo heb ik ze graag!
3.0 Draft at the Brooklyn Barge. Pours clear gold with a bubbly off white head. Tastes like grapefruit hops, bready malt, and toffee. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like bready malt, toffee, and grapefruit hops.
3.1 Bottled from some supermarket in NYC Golden with a medium, white head. Fruity, Piney aroma and flavour. Rather light bitterness with resinous notes.
3.3 Got on tap at Ravenous Pig (Gastropub) in Winter Park/Orlando. A nice beer paired with lunch. Typical pilsner qualities here. Appearance on the fuzzier/murkier side versus crystal clear. Clean, crisp flavors and mouthfeel. I would get this again, especially in 6-packs for daytime or hot weather beer....but was a little pricey and light for paying retail in a restaurant.
3.5 On tap. Pours a clear yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has straw and grains with a bit of grass and hay underlying. Flavor has grains and grass with sweet straw and a bit of hay supporting.
3.4 Clear golden, unstable head. Aroma: grapefruit, zest. Dry with moderate zesty bitterness. Flavour is all on the hop side: green grapefruits, lemon zest. Good hoppy lager.
3.1 12 fl. oz. bottle. A clear yellow coloured beer with a white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, straw, hops, citrus and with a bitter finish.
2.8 Draught at Brooklyn Bowl, 6/9/17. Clear, hay-and-straw yellow body is well-carbonated and is topped by a medium-sized, white head of moderately-low retention. Light citrus (lemon) and dried herbs quickly take back seat to the strong biscuit and cereal-like maltiness. Maybe a touch of wax/plastic, but it’s pretty clean, for the most part. Pretty low aromatics, overall, but no alcohol or resinous hops detected. Attenuation proves to be a bit lower than I’d like, and over the course of the pint, a bit of cereal and cakey sweetness builds up. But there’s some (slightly grainy) biscuit character to somewhat balance it, while hop bitterness is moderate to low. Light citrus and floral aspects and not too bastardized, but for the thicker than average body here. Again very light plastic/wax lingers but the beer is otherwise clean. Carbonation is high and forceful/fizzy for my liking, as well.
2.8 Clear, light amber. Light body, little flavor, neutral but rich mouthfeel, average length. Mildly bitter, dry, refreshing, hint of salt. Tenuous and standard hop and malt taste, mineral. Skip.
4.4 Very nice enjoyable pilsner. Just the right amount of hop flavor and bitterness.
2.8 Light gold color with foamy head. Aroma: grass, hay, grain and faint hints of hops. Taste was similar; but i could detect some citrus and spice. Overall pretty mediocre and forgettable.
3.1 I had it on tap. It pours a hazy, golden with a minimal, white head. The aroma is hay and corn. The taste is corn, bread, and some fruit. It’s crisp and refreshing. This was tasty and a good session beer for the warmer weather.
3.0 Draft @ Newark Airport, full size pour (22 oz.) at the regular inflated airport price... Clear golden yellow color. Short white head. Aroma’s of grains and hop(leave)s. Flavor is light sweet, light hopbiiter, light fruity. Light bodied. Finishes with light bitterness. OK, but too unremarkable to bear the name craft lager (if they call it that).
3.1 Pour clear gold with a white head. Aroma is grass, cereal and citrus. Taste is crisp bitters. Light bodied, good carbonation. Seems more bitter then a Pils should be, more reminiscent of an IPA.
3.1 Bottle from market. Golden color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, hops, toast, a bit of fruits and grass. Bitter finish with citrus, hops, toast, fruits and grass. Good pils.
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Brought to the house by a relative during a cook out. Poured clear gold with a white bubbly head. Subtle floral hop and grain aroma. Lightly sweet flavor from the cereal grains with faint floral hops. Light crisp body.
2.6 Bottle @ home. Has a rough mouthfeeling. Citrus, boiled vegetables and flowers. Minty.
2.6 This is nice and bitter, fairly light and drinkable but unfortunately a touch catty and metallic. It’s a little sweet with some mildly oxidized malt character. This puts it at a step below cheapo American lagers so not horrible but I never plan tovdrinl it again.
3.0 Clear golden coloured body with a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of light malt, some subdued sweetness from caramel, a touch of corn and a bit of yeast. Light-bodied; Strong grain flavours at first with the nuts, earth, light yeast and corn sweetness right behind. Aftertaste shows a little yeast, some robust grains and a bit of sweetness from honey at the tail end. Overall, a decent pils with some nice flavours, but a bit of harshness at the front to get past at the front end. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle during Happy Hour (free) at my hotel in Lower Manhattan, New York on 28-May-2016.
2.9 Bottle - pours yellow white head - nose/taste of peppercorn, lemon and malt - med body
2.7 Bottle shared at the RLGK tasting, March 2016. Pours a golden body with white lacing. Nose is soft malts. Overall, plain and bland. A touch too sweet.
2.9 Bottle at the jredmond tasting in NYC 160326. Golden beer with a decent off-white head. Hoppy grassy aroma, bread, caramel notes, some grapes, Fruity malty flavor, grapes, citrus, caramel notes. Decent but slightly boring pilsner.
3.9 It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tall pilsner glass. The label has a nice easy to read freshness date and a brief deScription of the beer. Appearance: The body has a deep golden color with good clarity and some visible carbonation flowing up to an average inch thick head ot foam. The head fades slowly and leaves a little bit of sticky lacing on the glass. Smell: The aroma is mostly bready and sweet with some light cereal grain mixed in. The hops add of touch of herbal and citrus notes as well. Taste / Palate: It has a solid foundation of bready and biscuity maltiness with a touch of spice. The hops add there expected herbal bitterness and citrusy brightness. The feel and palate is solid and full for the style. Overall it is a very enjoyable Pilsner.
2.1 Bottle at McGinley’s Irish Pub, Newark Airport, New Jersey. Originally rated 20160223. BBE May 2016. Colour is clear golden with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Some grain, some sweetness and malts. Very bad pilsner.
2.1 On tap at Burger Tap Shake DC, pours a clear dark yellow with some foamy, white head. Nose is a bit trashy, some corn, lemon, straw, cheap malt. Flavor has none of the rye I hoped for, more corn, light grist, lemon, straw, garbage. Watery finish. Woof.
3.0 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured clear golden, small white head. Aroma is grainy malts and light citrus and herbal hops. The taste is spicy, bready, sweet malts, balanced with a earthy, grassy, floral hoppiness. Enjoyable and easy to drink.
2.0 Meh. Overhopped as usual from any American smaller brewer--it does have some malt elements but it’s a pale ale by any European palate. Not really recommended
3.3 Aroma - dank and minor Saaz hops. Appearance - the body is pale yellow, the head is 1" and holds tight. Taste - nice dank, floral, and minor Saaz spiced hops. Palate - medium body, lively carbonation, and dry slightly spiced bitters.
