2.5 Bottle. Poured a copper color with an off white head. Earthy, caramel and thin and watery.
3.0 Dark copper colored pour from the bottle. Light beer overall, sweet malts - toffee, light caramel, toast, dark fruits. It's ok but fairly plain.
3.2 500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma is toasted malt, earthy hops, toffee. Taste is tangy, fruity, malt, herbal hops. To me it’s just an English bitter.
3.2 A bit sweet, rich malt taste. Nice english hops, a little watery and a bit too sweet
3.1 Ar: Pineapple and mossy, marmalade-like hops; toasted malt, medium caramels; red-apple skin. Ap: Orange-copper and crystal clear; medium very light tan head with good retention, leaving a mountain range of foam and a curtain of lacing. T: Toasted malt up front; very low sweetness; bitterness is medium-high and somewhat rough, accompanied by a hop flavor of black licorice and black pepper; some pineapple; very quickly goes to the finish, which is apple. P: Medium body with medium carbonation; dry finish; fairly watery. O: There are some really nice flavors here, but the beer does not quite delivery with the backbone and punch of yeast and malt flavor of great British ales.
4.0 Bought at La Bodega for $5.99, Old Man Ale is a traditional English ale crafted by Coniston Brewing Co. The aroma of citrus and malt are noted as you drink. The appearance is a shade of amber with a fast dissipating and low light tan head. The alcohol content is 4.8%. Malt is tasted along with caramel. Rye is felt upon the malt complexion. Lemon is light and experienced after the bitter finish becomes watery. Oranges are light as well, but comes across richer in comparison. Old Man Ale is a gorgeous English ale. The water quality is exceptional and make the beer easy to drink. The citrus tang of lemon and orange is felt on the take. The beer comes across bitter from the start and the start of the finish, and watery as the finish wanes. Deceptively complex, there’s more to this beer as long as you take it slow. Cheers. Prost. 3.3 Bottle from Malt Traders on 19 December 2017. I was expecting this to be a traditional English style ale and that is exactly what I got. First beer from this brewery for me and while it didn’t rate off the chart it did hit the spot and had a nice strong malt flavour that led into a sweetish finish. This is a beer that you could easily drink a few of.
3.5 0.5l bottle. Malty aroma, light caramel notes, extra light hopy notes. Light hazy amber color, white head. Malty taste, hopy notes, light caramel, matured fruits notes, light to medium bitter. Medium to full body, slick to thick texture, soft to average carbonation and malty and hopy bitter finish. Good.
3.4 Bottle. Clear amber color With medium creamy White mostly lastning head. Malty aroma. Sweet flavor. Oily palate
3.5 Bottle from Booths in Keswick. Nice bright ruddy brown colour, white foam. Sweetish malty affair, nice toast, nut, malt loaf notes, with a spicy hop finish and a touch of earth. Low to medium bitterness. This being labelled as old ale on here seems to have caused all manner of consternation when it’s just a nice fruity, malty premium bitter. Old fashioned but nice, but maybe I’m becoming an old man...
3.5 500ml Bottles from Booths, Ripon 2022, Coniston Brewery, The Black Bull Inn, Cumbria 2017 and 2004 and 2002. Dark amber coloured with a thick white head of foam. It has a dried fruit and red berry flavour followed by peppery hops and earthy notes on the smooth, spicy finish. Good.
3.3 Bottle. Dark Amber in colour. Malty; toasty malts, caramel. Fruity; citrus & berries. Hoppy; grassy and slightly earthy hops. Nice malt/fruit/hop balance. Sweet malty fruity with dry bitter hoppy finish. (2008)
3.8 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep amber red with a decent head. Lovely. Nose - toffee, molasses, wood. Taste - brown bread and burnt raisins. Dry plum skins. Palate - medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Overall - lovely.
3.9 Bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. From Beers of Europe. Pours clear deep ruby brown with a persistent thin white head. Aromas of toffee, molasses, wood. Taste is malty brown bread, toasted nuts. Bitter finish. Good.
3.0 Bottle.Nose is fruity, brown sugar, . Taste is sweet malt, dark fruits, caramel, light medicinal hops hint of lemon. Mouthfeel is a little thin. It's nice.
Pachnie syropem klonowym i sokiem z brzozy. Troche spadzi iglastej. W smaku wytrawno gozkie mało slodowe, Bitterek w starym dobrym stylu. Wyglad prawie bez piany leciusieńko mgliste, zabarwienie ciemnej herbaty.
3.6 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours clear copper with off-white head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, grass and hay, some citrussy notes. Tastes pretty bitter with some sweetness. Dry mouth feel, bitter finish.
2.9 Beige fast disappearing head. Dark amber colour. Aroma is malty, fruity with dried fruits, caramel and roasty notes. Flavor is malty too with dried fruits and light roasty and caramelly tones, ending in a moderately roasty finish. Light to medium bodied.
3.1 500ml bottle, chilled, poured into a pint glass at home. Attractive golden amber colour; small off white head; not much nose, sweet, malty, fruit; caramel and fruit palate with a dry, mild, bitter-sweet finish. Not much complexity. It’s a decent, drinkable red ale but a little underwhelming. I was expecting more given some of the reviews.
3.2 Bottle from Prima Beer. Clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and light hoppy - fruity and grass. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 290216
3.2 Bottle. Clear amber with a small cream head. aroma of boiled sweets, berries, herbal lemon drops. Drier than suggested by the aroma so the malt flavours are tauter and fruitier than the aroma suggested to me. Fairly light bodied, disappointingly a bit lifeless (I poured out the dregs b/c I was skeptical about the bottle conditioning)..Carbonation is pleasantly lowish. Berries, spices, herbal lemon. Firm bitterness. No idea what makes this an old ale. OK.
3.5 Rerate, 500 ml bottle, Cardinal pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. Beautiful copper colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Aroma of malts with toffee notes, also hints of herbal english hops. Herbal English hops in the otherwise malty flavour too, medium dry. Moderately bitter aftertaste. Nice to drink, moreish - not least for an old man like me. Original rating: Shared 500 ml bottle (bottle conditioned) at local tasting, from Prima Beer, Hobro. ABV 4.8%. Deep golden to amber colour, moderate white head. Aroma of herbal English hops, with unusual hints of juniper berries and juniper needles. Very herbal hops in the medium dry flavour, highly drinkable. One of the few beers of the tasting where I wanted to drink the whole bottle. Will buy again.
2.8 Shared bottle at RB/HB on board Fridtjofen 26.01.16. Slighty unclear orange golden. Off-white head. Aroma of English hops with a hint of herbs. Similar taste, with some malt. Fine aftertaste.
3.4 Shared bottle at local nautical tasting. Pours clear Golden/red with no head at all. Aroma is fruity with some good red ripe berries, taste is mellow and smooth malty, herbal lip smacking hops, light sticky mouthfeel, good one.
God.
2.4 Bottle from Drinkshop. A rich and classic ale it may be, but it is also heavily oxidized, which does not improve the drinking experience. I will take the liberty to go on and call this a boring and poorly made beer. Poorly drinkable as well.
3.2 Bottle, 4.8%. Clear dark amber/orange with small off-white head. Aroma is malt, caramel, bread, hop and biscuit. Flavour is malt, caramel, toasted, biscuit, medium sweet, little burned caramel, little earthy and a little bitter.
