COOP Ale Works F5 IPA

COOP Ale Works F5 IPA

A straightforward malt body supports the distinctive bouquet of Columbus and Falconers Flight hops that impart citrus, grapefruit and pine notes characteristic of the West Coast style. F5 is a belligerent hop reckoning.

3.6 12 oz. can. Pours hazy gold with a small white head. Grapefruit, orange juice on the nose.Taste is grapefruit, citrus, pine, caramel notes. Good.
3.8 Little haze to a light gold pour, finger of head. Nose is tropical. Bitter. Middle is caramel, medium malt, mango. Finish is malty and bitter, the best of both worlds.
4.2 Got in a BIF from jdell15. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 7/27/2017. Pours slightly hazy golden/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearane. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, lightly toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol for 7.1%. Overall this is fantastic IPA! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/pine hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Very vibrant and dank hops; great bready malt backbone with no residual sweetness. Never overly aggressive. Perfectly balanced citrus/tropical Falconers Flight and dank/piney Columbus hop character. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.9 Poured out of the CAN. Slightly hazy golden brew with a thick head. Smells and taste is lots of citrus, grapefruit. Truly a great brew but had to get it in the CAN so overall points lost.
3.7 floral, citrus, earthy, alcohol, golden, very bitter, medium sourness, light sweetness, light body, thin feel, lively,
3.0 Sample at the GNBF. Pour was amber with a white head. Aroma was pine, citrus, tropical. Taste was bitter, pine, grapefruit.
3.3 Can - pours golden with a white head - nose and taste of grapefruit, caramel, pine resin and orange peel - medium body
3.6 This beer blew me away, it was from a somewhat unknown brewery to me but the flavor of this IPA was outrageous. Get it if you can
3.8 Can to pint - pours a nice gold, resilient ivory colored head. Tons of resin and rich florals on the nose, notes of caramel. A hair slick on the tongue, I wanted it to be meatier, pretty good taste though, the malts shine and a pine, bitter hop finish lingers pleasantly with a flash of funk. It’s pretty good.
3.7 On tap at World of Beer. Aroma of pine, citrus and cracker. Nicely bitter. Medium bodied. Hazy golden with resilient heavy lacing whitish froth.
3.7 Clear yellow, small white foam head. Nice hoppy aroma and great bitter taste. Lasting aftertaste. A great IPA. (Oklahoma City 201705)
4.0 Pretty good beer, you can smell the malts right off. Mine was from a can which seemed to have strong pine/spruce flavor but still great.
3.3 Poured from a 12 oz can with a March 01, 2017 date. Aroma is fairly malt forward with lots of light caramel, biscuit and cracker malt notes. Moderate grapefruit and pine notes from hops with a hint of alcohol. Pours a somewhat hazy, copper orange with a medium large, thick, white head that exhibits good retention as it slowly recedes. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor is fairly sweet upfront with some caramel and biscuit malt notes. Moderately strong bitterness with a bit of a bite to it. Some grapefruit and pine resin hop notes. Lingering bitterness, caramel and pine resin. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with moderate carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, not a very good IPA. The malt profile is way too prevalent with too much caramel malt. The hop profile is fairly one dimensional and old fashioned as well. I’m glad IPAs have moved away form this hop profile.
3.5 12oz can. Pours clear copper color. Aroma of citrus and pine. Flavor of citrus, pine, touch of sweetness. A nice beer.
3.7 Great aroma, citrus hops. Columbus hops steal the show here. Nice pine and citrus taste in this one. Pretty good west coast style ipa. Drinkable. Would get again.
3.3 Maybe a bit of an old can? The Falconer is lost in this beer, and it is one of my favorite brewing hops so I held high hopes for this. Malt has a heavy hand.
3.5 Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and light pine aroma with light tropical fruit. Grapefruit and pine flavor with light mineral. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine linger with light mineral notes.
3.8 Pours a golden color. Pretty cloudy, lots of stuff floating around. Not real well carbonated. About one finger or so bone colored head. Pretty thick head. Good retention, nice lacing. Aroma is pretty straight forward. Pine, citrus, citrus peel, hops. Very hop forward, not as malty as most IPAs. Citrus is light, citrus peel is a little heavier. Maybe some tangerine. Not really picking up the grapefruit. Taste is mostly earthy. Pine, but not so much resin. Citrus, but more zest than actual citrus. A little wheat bread, maybe some pepper. It’s not bitter up front, most of the bitter comes after the swallow. A little spicy. Mouthfeel is actually medium body. It "should" be closer to heavy. But as such, it’s surprisingly easy to drink. Has long finish. It’s also soft and a little creamy. It’s very dry. Overall, it’s a fine IPA. Could be a little heavier, maybe a little more carbonation. The more I drink, the more bitter it gets. Yes, I would drink/buy it again, and I would recommend it. It’s good, but seriously there’s so many good IPAs out there, and it doesn’t stand out a whole lot from the others. But it IS worth a try.
3.6 Can: Poured a clear golden to copper with white. Aroma is light IPA. Taste is citrus hops.
3.7 Poured from a growler to an insulated cup while bbq’ing some ribs for labor day. This is a solid IPA and works well with the heat.
4.0 Tap at WoB. Pours a clear copper color. Light amount of carbonation. Big hoppy nose. Citrus, resin, pine. Bitter hops upfront. Dried leaves, Sap, pine needles and sweetness. Finishes very dry and hoppy bitter.
3.8 Can. Much better than I expected. Nice kick of fruity hops right out of the can. Clear, golden and bright, ok off white head. Peaches, pine, mango, and grapefruit mix. The taste is clean, hoppy, crisp, and super easy going down.
3.7 Tasted from can. Pours a pale mostly clear gold with a thick white head. Strong aroma of orange, mango, melon, grapefruit, lemon. Taste is moderately bitter with nice malt backbone. Taste similar to aroma with some floral notes as well. Pretty well done IPA.
3.8 Drank June 10, canned June 8. Tough to get the beer to Dallas from Oklahoma too much faster. Orange pour with a white head. The aroma is a nice mix of orange and pine, with a bit of tropical fruit. The flavor is similar. There is a nice juicy character plus some bitter, resinous pine. Fairly bitter. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Love it.
3.6 Orange and hazy with a white sticky foam. Moderate hop bitterness and a distinctly citrus flavor. Some vegetal matter in the finish.
4.1 A very tasty beer. Bottle poured into tumbler. Ok head, no lacing. Interesting flavours but can’t isolate too much.
3.4 16 oz can at BRGR in Prairie Village, Kansas. The pour is a hazed orange golden with a 1/2 white head. Nice head retention and lace. The aroma is floral resin, citrus peel bitterness and a bit of malt. The taste is the bitter citrus up front, and Iced Tea Crystal malt taste behind, followed by earthy resin and more bitter. The palate is medium bodied, soft active carbonation and the dry bitter finish.
4.5 F5 is the force of nature its name would have you suspect. This is a hop bomb brewed in the West Coast way with enough alpha acids to blast your palate into submission. Grapefruit zest and crisp pine - oh yes, there’s lots of bitter, good stuff in here. Some of Oklahoma’s tornadoes have been rumored to be so powerful they’ve stripped the skin off anyone unfortunate enough to be in their way. This F5 is more benevolent. It’ll just strip the enamel off your teeth.
2.9 Can. A- Pineapple, tropical fruits, subtle malts, hoppy. A- Orange color, cloudy liquid, white head. T- Pine, bitter, citrus, subtle caramel. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Wanted a lot more citrusy juicy notes than I got but as it warmed the pineapple on the nose really came out. A little bit of caramel helped with the bitterness, but not enough.
3.8 Draft at Great Nebraska Beer Fest. Clear golden color, white head. Aroma of cantaloupe and tropical fruit. Taste is juicy, fruity, dank and earthy. Delicious.
