3.4 Bottle. Rich amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Malt and spice aroma with grapefruit and pine. Grapefruit and tropical fruit flavor with malt and pine. Medium bodied. Decent bitterness. Caramel and earth lingers with grapefruit and pine.
2.5 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a white head that laces and dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has a light pine hop with some sweet fruit and a very sweet biscuit note. Flavor was similar with a backing pine hop but a very sweet biscuit note that slightly overwhelmed the beer.
2.2 Very hazy amber orange pour. The aroma is a little bit oxidized. Orange peel and honeyed malts. Sticky palate but intensely bitter. Medicinal and pithy and really not good at all. Definite QC issues here.
3.0 Slightly hazy orange color with a thick white head. Very mild aroma of sweet malts, hops and some citrus. Nice hop taste up front that gives way to a sort of sweet middle and a nice and floral, bitter hop finish. Decent IPA
3.4 Bottle. Favourite bottle cap of alltime. Beverage features energizing bright orange fused with vermillion. Solid aromas of freshly cut orange and pineapple. Good palate and flavour profile, though a little one dimensional, with an overpowering plastic/vinyl bitterness that mutes fruit flavours such as predominant white grapefruit. Good but lacks some of the finer points.
3.2 This IPA poured a cloudy dark orange colour with the biggest , off white head I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of rating. To the nose there are scents of grassy hops, citurs, sweet malt and bread. First taste was smooth with flavours of citrus and spruce. Slightly bitter with a little sweetness lingering. Hoppy finish with a bitter sweet flavour.
3.2 Bottle courtesy of MaltDawg on 04/25/2010. Slightly hazy copper body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet toasty and floral aroma. Sweet toasty and pale malt flavor with some light caramel and some floral hops. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
2.8 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of light diacetyl, English malts, slight yeast, and little else. Poured amber in color with a small to medium-sized, dense, rocky, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Lightly hazy. Slightly sparkling. A few small particles. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, nuts, dried leaves, diacetyl, and some hops. Medium body. Slightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, light diacetyl, nut, and dried leaf finish is slightly sweet.
(Rating #3114)
2.4 Poured from a bottle a the CIA. Deep caramel brown. Quickly falling head. Little to no hop aroma. The bready overtones dominate. Rather dissapointing as ipa’s go.
2.8 Pours a amberish color in the glass. Nose is floral. Taste is mild hop bitterness. Rated 8/26/08
3.6 This beer is very nice to look at. Light orange, with a beautiful cloudy haze. Visible carbonation adds to the allure. Pillowy head and an excellent frosty lace. Pleasant, low-key sweet hop smell. Slightly toasted dry malt, with a nutty, biscuity smell. Seems to have a slightly musty smell but I’ll give the brewer the benefit of the doubt. Definitely an English IPA (as opposed to an American). The dry toasted malt flavor is the headliner here. The malt presence is huge, with the hops just acting as an accent; understanted hop flavor. Almost like a bitter. The hop bite really only exists in the aftertaste. Hint of dry yeast adds even more depth. Quite dry, with medium thickness. But not an ashy dry like some beers I’ve had lately. Very much feels like an English pub ale. This is a fine example of a pleasant English IPA, or even just an English Pale. Not quite as hoppy as I prefer, but very nice indeed.
4.1 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date on the bottle. Appearance: A small one finger thick white head sits on top of a beautiful clear amber liquid. This head settles down to thin cap which make for some spotty slick lace on the glass. Smell: It has a modest nose with some hints of sugary sweet lemon aid like citrus notes over pale white bready notes. Taste/Palate: The flavor starts with a base of sweet bready malt with hints of caramel/toffee, Butterfinger like, candy mixed in. Hop flavor adds juicy lemony citrus notes that fade into bitter piney hop notes that hang onto the palate and last well into the finish. The body has a good medium feel with nicely balanced carbonation. Notes: For me this was a very enjoyable and easy drinking IPA. I like the use of there Ringwood yeast and love that they finish the beer with some locally grown hops.
3.4 Pours a deep golden with a good lace. Aroma is mild hops with some butteryness. The flavor is lightly citrus with some hop bitterness and a good earthy character. I’m guessing there are fuggles in this one.
4.1 Had this one bottled at the brewery in Milford, New York. Medium brown pour, light citrusy hoppy nose, lemongrass, great citrusy hoppiness and a bit of coffee, just excellent.
2.9 2- 12oz. on the menu at a C.I.A restaurant in Hyde Park, NY. I’m not sure why this got such low scores. It’s not exactly true to the ’West Coast’ IPA style I’m used to, but still quite decent. I good session beer. Pours a dark amber color with a small head that stayed with me through the entire glass. It has the initial IPA aroma, but the taste takes a full 180, and tastes more like a hoppier amber ale with little of the expected hoppiness, and more of a malty flavor.
3.2 bottle poured an amber in color with a thin white head. aroma has sweet malt, dough, and light hops. mouth feel is thin with average carbonation. bitterness picks up in the flavor with good malt level, light sweetness, and a bit of citrus rind at the end of the sip. much more punch in the flavor than i would have thought.
3.1 Mini growler from Half-Time. Pours an almost hazed orange amber with a good sized white head. Toast and hops on the nose. Sweet malt on a thin body. Finishes with some grapefruit bitter, but nothing too complex.
3.4 Bottle at Qbrick. Fragrant aroma of spices and dried fruits, hops and grass. Very interesting. Lightish malt, big hops, a bit strange, but compelling.
3.5 12oz bottle acquired via a sweet trade bonus from grandet, thanks buddy. Pours brilliant clear pale copper with assertive tan head. The aroma hits with a quick one – two punch from maltiness and straight up citrus bitterness and acidity followed by more mild maltiness. Overall the nose comes across as being a little light for the style. The taste like the nose has both citrus hop bitterness with little in the way of late boil addition hop flavor coupled with smooth maltiness and a hint of nutty, roasty, faint butterscotch. Darn solid taste for an IPA.
2.7 Bottle sampled at NFB&WF ’08 at Martha Clara Vineyards. Pours a clear gold. Aroma of pine and not much else. Flavor is again mostly pine with a very weak malt backbone. Bitter, astringent finish, like sucking on the white pith of a grapefruit. Not very good.
2.5 Bottle. Pours a dark amber body with an off white head. Aroma is sweet hoppiness some with some fruit. Flavor is strongly hoppy almost like copper. Not for me.
3.4 6/15/2008 - 12 oz bottle, pint glass. Poured large white head with piney aromas. Could have a fuller body and darker color. Overall a decent but not great IPA.
3.3 3/12/08 notes: bottle. Pours a light apricot color with a small white head. Medium body with a slightly oily texture. Aroma is of cascade hops, pine. Body is smooth, and there is a nice blend of hops that add complexity, balanced tastefully by malt flavors. I taste some orange fruitiness in the body as well. Definitely a quality brew, just nothing special. Flavors are a bit too mute, and I like hops to be a bit firmer in an IPA.
3.2 12 oz. bottle at Flat Rock Saloon. Poured hazy copper with ridiculously fluffy head. TONS of lacing. Lots of sweet caramel in the flavor with a bitter finish. OK at best.
1.5 When trying new beers, I like to get a few different brews in order to properly get a good representation of the brewery. So I bouight this IPA along with the Cooperstown Old Slugger Pale Ale. Did not enjoy the Pale Ale and this one did not fare much better. Some key factor here is missing in these beers and that is character. There is just simply no memorable quality that I can reflect on time spent drinking this. No nose, not much body, no respectable lingering finish...kind of like just taking a sip and hitting a brick wall. I was interested in checking out their porter but rethinking that plan after these two strike outs.
3.0 Bottle. Slightly hazy copper with nice head. Not a lot of aroma. The body is nice: medium-to-full with light carbonation. As others have pointed out, this isn’t a hoppy West Coast IPA. The Ringwood yeast is apparent, there’s biscuity malt and grassiness and some faint citrus hops at the end. Not enitrely clean, but drinkable.
2.4 Bottle. Pours orange with an off white head. Aroma is nice enough with notes of hops and a hint of caramel. Medium body, but too much carbonation. Flavor is very well balanced, in fact way too well balanced. This is an IPA man, where the hell are the hops?
3.9 hazy amber color, big foamy head, nose is pine and grapefruit, some malts some grassy notes , flavor is a little to sweet on the malt side, also some pine in there too, odd aftertaste New fresh bottle, i think the one i had before was a little stale, less malt flavor more fresh hops, very well balanced and very easy to drink, could easily down a case of this on a nice weekend at the cottage.
2.7 Well, light brown, nice head. Smells very hoppy, very bitter. Yes appopriate to the style, but too much for my liking. It’s ok, Maybe Ill try again in the summer when it’s warmer. Probably more appropriate then.
