Coors Batch 19

Coors Batch 19

Batch 19 is derived from a recipe found in an old logbook discovered in brewery archives dating back before 1919, when Prohibition banned beer throughout the country. Prohibition was enforced in Colorado in 1916. The pre-Prohibition style lager delivers a bold, hoppy flavor that is surprisingly well balanced. Test market in Chicago, Milwaukee, San Francisco, San Jose, and Washington DC.

2.4 bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear medium amber with a foamy white head, and swirls of lace. Taste is light caramel malt with a light shot of hops in the finish. Not much happens, but the flavor trumps pretty much everything else Coors produces. It’s drinkable. Enough said.
2.2 bottle. Poured clear gold with bubbly white head. Aroma is grainy, a bit tart. Light body, carbonated mouthfeel with a sticky dry finish. Grainy flavour, cornish with a little bready malt, metallic note.
2.5 Backlog rating on 11-18-2012 (Bottle) The appearance is a small, creamy, smooth off-white head with a long retention, transparent golden body, lively, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is grainy malt and a suggestion of corn. The flavor is lightly sweet, hint of hops and malt. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer does not have a lot of character to it. The flavor is not bad, but it does not leave me wanting this beer again.
2.4 Draft at Coors. Same amber color and thin lacing head. Light grain and hops. Well carbonated. It has some flavor. Ok.
2.8 Clear golden/amber color, medium white head. Aroma of grain and grass. Malty , grainy taste with pleasant moderate hoppy bitterness. Not bad.
2.3 "Had semi-high hopes for this, and it turned out just ok. Pretty much what I should have expected. I already thought classic Coors is the best of the BMC products. This is about on par with that, or maaaybe a little better, due to the eber so slight hop presence, but it’s really just a non-offensive corn or generic malt driven light lager. The flavor would have workled a tiny bit better if the carbonation wasn’t so gassy...that took away from what possibly would have been a stright 3. Glad I tried it, probably won;t again."
3.8 Transfer from BA review on 1-7-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Pours a golden amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a nice level of lacing. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a bready and caramel smell. Mixed with these aromas is a light hop smell of a citrus and earthy nature Taste – The taste begins with flavors of bread and some caramel sweetness. As the flavor advances a light roasted malt flavor comes to the tongue along with some hop flavors of an earthy nature come to the tongue. As the flavor advances more to the end, it crisps up more as the caramel flavors diminish some and more bready flavors comes to the tongue. With these transitions more hop flavors of a light citrus nature come to the tongue as well and leave a lightly hopped crisp flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is very average. It’s pretty decent for the style as it is smooth and matched the crispness and light hop flavors of the brew fairly well. Overall – A nice easy drinking and good session brew. It has enough hop flavor to make it somewhat exciting, but it still maintains an easy and relatively clean lager taste.
2.1 At Denver Airport. From tap. Reasonably attractive in glass - clear light gold with half a finger head that quickly recedes. A little funky nose - some malt. Taste is corn, malt, and really just kind of blah. It's not particularly interesting or good.
1.4 Pours golden pils, two finger white head Smells pretty grainy lager Taste grainy lager Light body Nothing special
2.0 I drank this at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI, then I went to the hospital for 4 days (completely unrelated to the beer). This is the last beer I'll have for a little while, and I'm kinda bummed it was this one.
2.1 Bottle. Aroma is funky. Grass, dirt, bread. Taste is same funky. Flavor is weak, all grass, metallic. Not that good imo, but better than most main stream beers.
2.6 (12oz bottle) Pours a clear golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of lemon zest, grain, butter, and grass. Flavor of grass, grain, butter, earthiness, and florals.
1.9 Strange taste. It's as if it wants to be hoppy but it really isn't. Thanks to a guy at work he gave me a case for free. Otherwise I don't think I would buy it.
1.4 On draft at Miller Park. Brewers vs. Nationals. Great seats right behind first base. The beer is hazy and light brown with a half inch of light khaki head. The aroma is adjunct sweetness, sweet caramel malt. Smells macro all the way. The taste is just shitty. There’s really no other way to say it. I try to rate to style, and I don’t expect an adjunct lager to have the complexity of a gueze or big imperial stout. That said, this beer tastes like syrup, artificial sweeteners, fake fruity crap. There is no integrity in this product. This beer was designed for commercial purposes only. Gross on so many levels. Avoid.
2.8 Light gold pour the white bubbly head almost completely gone before I could get through half this review. That was fast. In a hurry to find a sampling of six new brews had me lunging for this cool label and interested in checking out a brew bragging on its "pre-prohibition" style lager. If I had the time I would have read the bottle more closely, at that point I would not have picked this one up. I’m definitely not a huge fan, but I’m glad I was able to try it. Coors actually didn’t do a bad job but I must say I came very close to running away from this when I discovered the brewer. Still, this is much heavier a lager than I expected, a little yeasty, but crisp. I am not enjoying the aftertaste, however, as it seems really bitter and slightly metallic. My take is that this is not worth the price, but a damn sight better than a regular Coors.
2.0 Coors should return the beer recipe for this one back to the archives. A beer which is way past its’ prime...
2.4 Pours clear gold with small white head on tap at coors brewery. Aroma of orange and malt. Malt flavor with hint of hops and corn syrup. Not a great beer.
2.0 Not bad but leaves an after taste that im not a fan of. Not much of a smell but I would say its decent.
2.1 Clear yellow/orange pour with large fast dissipating white bubbly head. Sweet malt and sort of syrupy smell. Also some yeast. Definite corn syrup for taste, also some bitter but not hoppy. Watery and not too high in carbonation. Way sweet. Not bad but not a fan either.
2.5 12 oz bottle from Evergreen Discount into a wine glass at home. Light bronze and clear appearance with a thin, white head and lightly active carbonation. Aroma of toasted grains, bready malts and mild hops. Similar flavor, malty, husky, crisp and pretty clean with mild bitterness. Average body, smooth and easy to drink. Solid premium lager, better than expected.
1.6 bottle. served super cold. aroma is mostly honey with some sweet breadiness to it. Taste is moderately hoppy, has a weird bitterness in the finish that is peppery in nature. harsh in hop flavor and slightly metallic. pretty bad.
2.8 12oz from Orchard Fresh, Orchard Park, NY. Golden amber with a ring of white head and moderate carbonation; malty aroma; crisp malty taste with a touch of citrus; and some caramel in the finish. A vienna style lager, and rather good for Coors.
2.5 Orange/ yellow in color. Aroma is grainy malty. The taste is lighter than the aroma lets on, not a bland watered out beer just not complete i guess. Great marketing scheme though.
3.0 The neck on this bottle has a couple ridges on it which make it look like some sort of old timey sex toy. Having no intention of fornicating with this beer, this matters little to me but I thought I’d throw this out there for the many raters that might. In any case, this is a fairly decent beer. I don’t know about claims of being an authentic pre-prohibition style lager but this does separate itself from typical cheap American beer in a few regards. For starters, it is about a shade darker, pouring a rich and crystal-clear golden color. It is definitely more pilsener-like as well. While its nose is has only a slight floral notes amongst the cracked grain that predominates, it is actually rather bitter and hoppy in the finish with a hint of lemon citrus and malt sweetness across the tongue. It is unfortunately a bit metallic too but not so bad it seriously hurts this heavily carbonated brews drinkability. My main complaint about this stuff is it is the same price as some legitimate craft beers like Sierra Nevada in my area and I doubt this costs much moor than regular Coors to break. I guess you are getting a bit screwed by this beer a bit but, hey, if you have a mind, you can do the same right back.
2.2 Bottle. Pours a clear amber orange color. Foamy head. Aroma is very grainy. Smells like mash. Flavor is also grainy and tastes like a grain mash. This is the same beer as Third Shift.
5.0 This beer is very reminiscent of Stroh’s Signature beer. Love the aftertaste.
2.8 From bottle. Decent beer with light bite. More time was spent designing the label than perfecting the beer. Nothing here encouraging me to be loyal to it.
2.5 Yellow/orange color. Seems to be a little watery in my mouth. It’s light but not meaningless. Some citrus, a little toffee, and mandarin. It’s a summer beer I think.
2.3 Corn nose. Crystal clear amber, thin fizzy head. Medium body, light sweetness, fizzy.. Still tastes of corn, but does finish with mild grassiness. I had hoped for something a bit less macro-ish. Maybe beer sucked before prohibition.
