Coronado Hoppy Daze IPA

Coronado Hoppy Daze IPA

CBC’s overriding mission is to brew beers that are 100% true to our San Diego roots. Our spring seasonal, an unfiltered Belgian-style IPA, does so in spades thanks to aggressive West Coast hopping, while paying tasteful homage to Old World flavors and brewing traditions.

3.7 Just a hint of spice to let you know there is a bit of Belgium here. The aroma is malty sweet with a lot of citrus and pine. The flavor starts with a bit of sweetness and a bit of spice but gives way to the citrus and pine. Dry and refreshing, a very good brew.
3.4 This poured an orange color with a white head. Aroma was of grapefruity hops, grass, and caramel. Flavor was lightly stale hops, grapefruit, and caramel maltyness
3.4 Pours a yellow golden colour with lots of bright white lacing, a nice looking beer. Not much aroma, smells malty, cardboard, with a hint a citrus., that’s about it. Tastes of.. Well...dare I say beer. It has some citrus lemon flavor to it. This is at best an average beer.
3.3 Bottle. Bright golden color with just a bit of haze. Piled on top is a tower of bright white foam. What little aroma escapes is vaguely wild, but quite subtle. This drinks with a powerful fruity front, pineapple and a dusting of yeasty fuzz. Very light in character, bordering more on a saison than an American IPA. Good. (#5618, 8/12/2014)
3.7 Pours hazy burnt orange color with off white head. Citrus and Belgian yeast aromas. Orange and grapefruit flavors with coriander and doughy Belgian yeast. Medium body with average carbonation.
3.4 22oz bottle. Large off-white head atop hazy apple cider body. Aroma is moderately sweet, coriander, some orange peel, light honey. Taste is moderately sweet, coriander, grapefruit peel, light honey, soapy. Soft medium body, light acidity.
3.8 Bottle. Moderate bread and hay for the malt, moderate to heavy perfume and grapefruit peel for the hops, musty and soap for the yeast, and solvent in the background. Head is large, creamy turning rocky, white with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is sparkling clear golden yellow. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to modrately acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet but long lasting. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily, with a carbonation between soft and lively. A pretty good combination of Belgium and Strong American IPA.
3.7 Hazy orange colour. A nicely done ipa. Citrus and pine aroma and taste, finishes bitter
3.7 Bottle, orange pour, white head, nose is citrus, bitter, taste is piney, overall nice ipa.
3.9 Pours rich and cloudy. Cookie, peanut butter and chocolate, bitter fruit. Not much from the yeast, but definitely a stand-alone beer with a heft and astringency that pair better with cheeses and something with spice.
3.7 Bomber shared. Pours a hazy yellow to mild orange color. Nice lacing around. Aroma is a belgianesque aroma with a nice hop balance. The flavor is smooth and tasty. Nice Belgian yeast and bready with a solid hop presence. Overall pretty solid.
3.4 650ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Rating from 2013. Hoppy daze indeed. Big punchy hop aromas with a big hit of alcohol in the finish.
3.8 7/6/2014. 22 oz. bottle. Light amber with a white head. Citrus, resin, hops and Belgian yeast. Nice balance with the Belgian yeast adding an interesting tough to the beer.
3.5 Clear golden of color with a white head. An aroma of corn flakes, herbs, spice and fresh. A flavor of herbs, spice, fresh and a nice bitterness.
3.6 Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Clear golden with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, fruity and moderate hoppy - citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 050714
3.3 Bottle, 7.5%. Slightly hazy medium white head. Aroma is malt, fruit, hop, herbal and earthy. Flavour is malt, fruit, hop, earthy, little sweet, yeast,
3.7 Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are citrus, fruits, flowers, malt and hops. Nice and fresh.
3.5 Bottle. Amber pour with a short, foamy white head. Aroma is fruity with lots of yeast, grains and malt notes. Taste is floral hops, yeast, soft fruit notes, citrus notes, toasted malt, pine notes and hop resins. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Soft boozy notes as well. Ends with more big fruit and yeast notes, grains, sweet malt, pine notes, floral hops and softer hop resins.
2.6 On tap at the Orange Street brewpub location. IBU = 74 but seems a little lower. Pours light amber with a good, durable head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing. Aroma: hops with mildly funky yeast Taste: very floral hop flavor with some herbal aspects. Hint of baked bread. Medium bitterness. Feel: medium body; smooth. O: OK
3.0 Draft in Tampa. Cloudy gold with lots of head and lacing. Definite IPA- strong malt flavor. Hit the spot despite not being my favorite style
3.6 It’s not terrible for what it is. A Belgian IPA that isn’t overly Belgian. I could drink it. Aroma of clean hops and juicy citrus. Flavor is similar but finishes with a little Belgian yeast and licorice. Not a terrible pour.
3.5 Drought at Spuyten Duyvil. Hazy orange with small creamy whitish head, citrus aroma, hoppy taste with orange peel flavor, low carbonatoion, long finish. Nice refreshing beer, great for a hot summer evening.
3.6 Overall: Spicy, zazzy fruitiness, sweet, big body. Note: On-tap at De Klomp. Reviewed 2014-06-06.
4.0 Moment I opened the bottle I could smell the Belgian influence. Slightly cloudy on the pour this is a fantastic beer that is easy to drink, which scares me as it is quite high in alcohol.
3.9 22 oz bottle. Pours golden with a lot of head. Hops and grass aroma. I really like this. It combines the things I love about both Belgian and IPA’s. Sweet hop flavor with a little grapefruit. Very easy drinking. Sweeter finish. Well done.
3.5 Keg at Coronado brewpub, Coronado Island SD, 20/04/14. Clear golden with a good sized white coverin that retains well. Nose is mandarin, juicy hops, citric sherbet, grass, peach, orange squash. Taste comprises orange pith, straw, toasted bread, pink grapefruit, hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a hoppy linger. Solid enough DIPA - no world beater.
3.7 On tap at Reilly’s Taphouse, Itaewon. Pale golden colour. Intense orange zest hoppiness. Well-balanced fruitiness in the mouth. Nice.
3.5 Draught @ Jerntorgets Brygghus. Pours deep golden with a creamy offwhite head that sloiwly dissipates while leaving some sticky lacing on the glass. Smell is fruity and tiny phenolic with crackers, mango, pineapple, grapefruit juice, freshly cut grass, pine needles, pepper corns and lemon zest. Taste is bitter, slightly fruity and tiny phenolic with white bread, crackers, grapefruit juice, mango, unripe pineapple, moist grass, orange zest, lemon zest, moist soil and hints of pepper corns and frozen peas. Mouthfeel is slightly round, astringent and medium bodied. Finish is bitter, tiny fruity and tiny phenolic with white bread, moist grass, pine needles, grapefruit rinds, unripe tropical fruits, orange zest and lemon zest. Solid IPA with only hints of phenols and other "Belgian" elements.
3.6 On tap at Battleship. Pours a very cloudy golden color with a white head. Good lacing demonstrates good head retention. Aroma is loaded with citrus and pine hops. Clean, crisp pine presence up front that quickly yields to raw oat flavor. Leaves a more malty and less hoppy finish for a DIPA. Not bad.
3.6 On tap at O’Connors (Belgian style ipa, 7,5%). Golden with white head. Aroma with loads of coriander, light and fresh with flowery notes. Taste has heavy coriander, medium sweet malt notes with a marked bitterness.
