Crazy Mountain Amber Ale

Crazy Mountain Amber Ale

This delightfully floral American style Amber Ale displays a wonderful balance while still maintaining a profound hoppy goodness. We load this beer with a ridiculous and obscene amount of West Coast hops that are added late in the boil resulting in a hoppy beer without any bitterness.

3.3 Aroma; caramel malts, herbs, bread, roasted notes, nutshell. Look; fawn foam, about clear amber fluid, foam is quite persistent. Taste; roasted malts, amber leaves, floral hops, wooden fruits - basement’ish tale. Feel; good. Overall; good when one gets through the foam. [35.5cl.btl abv5.25% BB31.03.17 B@Vinmonopolet]
3.1 Can from Booths, Media City. Slightly deeper amber ale with a very thin head. Has some gritty and tasty malts alongside an underlying tropical fruitiness. Its nose is similar and it has a fairly easy-drinking in its texture.
3.1 Can. Pours a hazy brown colour with a fluffy white head, aroma is light and floral, the taste is medium bitterness with a dry bitter finish.
2.1 Bottle. Lactic caramel malt and weedy hay aroma. Amber with large tan head. Lightly sweet caramel malt, moderate sour milk, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Okay body. Not so good.
3.7 Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a semi-burnt dark orange almost red color with a quickly dissipating finger?s worth of white foamy head that left mild stringy lace. The aroma starts floral touching down on a nice caramel to toffee malt base. The flavor leads with the malts yet embraces a nice floral hoppy arrangement agreeing to balance nicely. Well balanced malts to hops aftertaste with a dry balanced finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation feels good for the style and for me. Overall, nicely done amber ale that I would have again.
2.8 Fra flaske på Mi2, Cardinal okt-16: kobbergylden med fint skum. Karamell, appelsinkjeks, sukat og noe ubestemmelig nøtteaktig. Floral avslutning. Tørr. Kjenner ikke at de har brukt "a ridiculous and obscene amount of West Coast hops" - hvor har de tatt veien?
3.5 Shared bottle at Mi2 at Cardinal 24.10.16. Dark golden. Small off-white head. Aroma and taste of bitter oranges, sweet malt, succade, lychee, thyme and mint. Quite dry.
2.0 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours dark amber with off-white head. Aroma of caramel, medicine, red berries. Taste is slightly sweet with distinct bitterness. Dry, thin bodied. Probably infected.
3.3 Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours clear amber with a small creamy white head. Aroma of amber malts, weak hopped. Taste is light sweet brown malts, weak traces of hops, anonymous and forgettable.
3.3 355 ml bottle, as Crazy Mountain Sheamus Amber Ale, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.25%, IBU 25. Amber colour, moderate white (or slightly off-white) head. Strong aroma of herbal, spicy and fruity hops, hints of caramel. Slightly dry flavour, still with hints of caramel, and plenty of earthy and herbal hops, some fruit and wood too. Woody aftertaste. Not very bitter though, but some bittering hops come through in the aftertaste. .
5.0 Great beer! Lovely malty flavour but not too heavy, smells amazing too. Yum!
3.0 Light amber with off white head - Malt and some hops in the aroma - Malt body with some hops and bitterness - The malt and bitterness goes into the finish - This was ok
2.4 Gylden brun klar med svært høyt offwhite skum. Lukter trevirke og brent karamell. Lett. Skarp bitter smak, brent karamell og alkohol.
2.6 Can. Slightly hazy amber colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweet and bready malts, some floral notes with mild herbs and wood too. Flavour is sweetish malts, some bitter wooden and herbal notes along with mild toffee.
3.7 12 oz bottle. This one is probably underrated - I found it to be quite nice and above average. So goes the ratings world.
3.8 Served on tap at blue pan. Hazy red brown color with a white head. Floral Melon aroma. Floral toasted malt flavor with a little resin finish. Medium body. Much lighter than expected from an Amber.
2.8 355ml can. Clear amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Nuttily malty aroma, hints of hazelnut and nougat, some earthy walnut nuttiness. Taste is slightly sweet nuttily malty, minimally dry nutty hints of nutshell. Monotonous and slightly watery.
1.9 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark amber color with a large creamy-fluffy orange-white head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was sweetish, toasty and malty with sour caramel, tobacco, a slightly off presence and some fruity hops. The flavor was malty and bitter with honey, caramel, an off presence and tobacco. Fairly astringent. Medium length finish. Medium body. Not good.
3.2 Sample from a bottle. Pours a clear, light orange, with a medium, bubbly head. The aroma is bready malts, floral hops, and not a whole lot else. Sweet and fairly bitter, and surprisingly well balanced. Medium body, clean, and a little flat. This is an easy, solid hoppy amber, but nothing special.
3.5 Pours clear amber with a medium beige head, medium retention. Aromas of hay, caramel, toast, with some juicy floral and tropical notes. Light medium body, smooth, medium carbonation. Lightly sweet, a hint of citrus, then a tasty herbal finish that tempts a big bitter finish, but ends up being a lingering gentle bitter whisper. All this time I thought I didn’t really like ambers.
3.1 Clear, amber pour with a small, white head. The aroma has sugary malt and bread. It has a light, watery body with average carbonation. The taste is bittersweet with a sticky finish.
2.8 Can. A- Caramel, bread, crackers, smoked peat, pine, subtle citrus. A- Amber color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, biscuits, subtle bitterness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- This actually has a bit of taste to it. Wasn’t a huge fan, but it was drinkable.
(Rating #6503)
3.2 From the 12 oz. can. Mine was acquired on clearance so it is likely many months past its fresh date. But it still looks nice with its bright amber, heady pour. The aroma has a kind of grape or wine character but that is likely due to its age. But if I sniff deep enough I get a little roasted malt. Medium texture. The taste has some more malts than the nose suggests and it has a mild bitter finish. I really had to stretch it to review this one because it is rather outdated. Next time I will try a fresher one.
3.1 Clear amber. Malty nose with balancing bitterness. Pretry tasty and I’m not a huge fan of ambers.
3.1 Can. A really nice amber ale. Clear copper-amber color with a small head. Aroma was a toffee-malty aroma with hints of floral-hops. Taste had hints of toffee with a slightly sweet upfront taste and a slightly bitter finish.
2.3 Waaaaaay below average pale ale. Just nothing special at all. Not very good. Would not recommend.
3.0 Pint at the Terminal Bar. This is a pretty nice looking beer, clear red with a small white head. Aroma is biscuit and toasty with mild hops. I get suggestions of caramel and butter. The flavor is malt forward and a little crisp. There is a lingering sweet/buttery thing in the flavor but it’s faint. I can’t tell if it’s an off flavor or is just coming from the specialty malt. This is a fairly serviceable amber ale.
3.5 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served a copper golden color with a one finger head of pure white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a lighter level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is big of a caramel smell with a good showing of a bready and molasses smell accompanying it. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of a floral and grassy smell along with a tiny bit of earth. Taste – The taste begins just as the nose would have suggested with a big sweet caramel and doughty taste mixed with just a hint of a grassy hop. The sweet remains strong throughout with the hop growing stronger and stronger as the taste advances all while a bit of a floral and earthy hop comes to the tongue. In the end, with all the flavors transitions that have occurred, one is left with a rather sweet, but lightly hopped amber taste to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of thickness, with a carbonation level that is slightly lower. A little thicker body, in conjunction with the lower carbonation, may have been slightly better for the malt and light hop, but overall the feel was pretty good overall. Overall – A decent amber ale with a nice easy drinking abv at only 5.25%. Not a bad brew and one to try if you get a chance.
3.0 Can from Beltramo’s in Menlo Park, CA. Herbal tea, caramel, some earthy roasted malts. So, uh, errrr.... crazy?
