Crooked Stave Colorado WildSage

Crooked Stave Colorado WildSage

Artisan ale brewed with fresh white sage and lemongrass
We at Crooked Stave find solace playing in the Colorado Mountains and possess a great pride for the place we call home. Paying homage to our great state and the even larger Western Region of the US, we brewed Colorado WildSage, a Brett Saison incorporating fresh herbs, including white sage and lemongrass. Brewed with the backcountry in mind, Colorado WildSage is dominated by a bright floral aroma, soft herbal notes and a crisp Brettanomyces bite from primary fermentation and further bottle conditioning with our house mixed yeast culture. Brewed with all Colorado ingredients in order to deliver a little bit of the high country to everyone who decides to share in this beer with us.

3.4 Pours a bright amber with a small white head. Nose is sharp lemon and herb but not quite Nando's. Taste is quite sour with lemon and powerful sage notes. Pretty delicious.
3.7 355ml can.Pours nice creamy yellow, some white foam on the top. Nose is refreshingly tart, some sage character, super herbal. Herbal tea mixed with refreshing lemon-water, some funk added as an extra. Tastes herbal, sage quite clearly there, refreshing, somewhat buttery funk and light bitter linger in the finish. Good one.
3.4 Taste from a can at the Colorado Springs Wine Festival. Pours a cloudy, orange color, with a medium, frothy, white head. The aroma is strong sage, juniper, lemon, some weird fish. Sweet and sugary, with with dry, dusty bitterness. Light to medium body, with a crisp, clean finish. This is an interesting and fun beer.
4.2 hazy pale yellow colour, minmial, quickly disappearing off-white head; aroma of sage, chamomile, lavender, earthy, biscuity, honey as well as some apple notes; taste of biscuity-honey sweetness, sage, sweet white wine notes, some hoppy btterness and peppery notes; thank you very much for sharing, kapusil!
4.1 0.355l can. Slightly hazy golden body with a thin white head. The aroma superbly balanced showcasing honey, sage, chamomille, levander, apples and lemon zest. Taste of bread, honey, levander, sage, pepper, grape seed and grass. Not so sour and funky, rather spicy saison. The body is a bit thin, but it's still a great beer. With a tiny bit more robust body and head retention it could even be one of the best saisons.
3.4 Lightly hazy color. Frothy white head. Nice herbal nose, slightly sour mouth. Big sage finish. I actually like it but I know many wouldn’t
3.8 Can. Hazy lemon yellow pour, low head. Aroma of brett, lemongrass, sage, perfumey and nice. Flavour is light on the brett, delicate, gives lemongrass, honey, floral and herbal notes moreso in the finish. Easy drinking, moderate carbonation, doesn’t feel 7.2, dry finish with herb lingering. Enjoyable.
3.7 (On tap @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Feb 1/19) Pours moderately hazy pale gold with a white head. Notes of saison cereal malts and crackers at the base, soft lemon peel and a light citrus acidity, some fruity tones of pineapple and pit fruit, herbal and grassy notes, touch of sage per se, pepper, light to moderate funk. Softly sweet up front but lightly tart as well. Drying finish of sage, herbs, citrus peel, dry earth. Medium bodied with soft creamy carbonation. A bit unique, not the most sour or funky CS by a long shot but an easy-going first beer of the night.
4.1 (12oz can) Pours a clear golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of sage, barnyard, citrus, lemongrass, and straw. Flavor of lemongrass, brett, peach, pine, and sage.
3.4 Can. Somewhat hay gold with a white head that fades to a fat coat. Aroma has citrus, herbal and funky cracker notes that seem unintegrated at first but are brought together a bit by the citrus. Light bodied, quite fizzy. Fairly dry, slightly tart. The flavours follow the aroma and again, whilst they go together OK they don't cohere.
3.6 Crooked Stave - Wild Sage Brett Saison 355mL can from Carwyn Cellars 7.2%abv batch 2018-7 Rather excited blond beer is poured, big foam needs taming. Aroma quite rustic, earthy, dusty, hay and white pepper, grain store, clovey phenolics. Carbonation is high but very fine providing a lovely silkiness to the palate, overall dry impression without being chalky or harsh. Body kicks off with a slight sweetness from grainy, cereal malts, rounding out and drying with notes of white pepper and clove, funky freshly swept hay loft and earthy dried herbs. Rather smooth finish for a Saison, moderate bitterness. Apparently this has Sage and lemongrass in it, get a bit of the former maybe but certainly not a dominant character. Either way, a lovely brew!
3.9 Aroma: Medium-high spicy, soapy, coriander. Medium-light barnyard, leather. Appearance: Clear, yellow body. Large white head, medium to large bubbles, Low retention. Flavour: Medium coriander, spicy, pepper, lemongrass. Medium-light barnyard, leather. Very dry finish with lemongrass. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Good balance between the spices, the yeast and the beer. 355 ml can, poured. Thanks Christel! 30A. Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer - Sage, Lemongrass 25B. Saison
3.4 355ml can. Light hazed golden pour, white head. Aroma is sage pine and lemon. Flavor is tart and lemony, sour, light malt, sage in the finish, light bitterness.
2.3 On Tap @ Beer Temple, Brettfest 2017. The aroma has lemon grass, herbal tones, citrus. Bit hazy, golden coloured beer with a white head. The taste is bretty, herbal, citric. Medium bodied. In the end these kind of weird herbal beers for the woonatic tribal dancers all taste like ginger root beer.
3.6 Fruity, yeasty and herbal aroma. Taste is sweet, crisp and somewhat peachy, hints of lemongrass and saison yeast.
3.7 Draft at Tria Taproom and later Bru Craft. Foggy yellow pour with a show of soft white foam. Lots of lace. Dense but bright. Lemon curd. Grapes. Plums. Honey. Sage. Thyme. Lime. Cumin. Green peppercorns. Lemongrass. Autumn leaves. Light Brett. Gently sweet up front but finishes mostly dry. Nice.
3.7 Can from Rehills of Jesmond. Pours hazy blond with a white head. Pleasant Brett aroma. The taste is funky with hay, light citrus and herbal notes. Sage especially in the finish. Nice.
3.2 Can purchased at Hy-Vee. Pour was hazy golden, white head. Aroma was funky, spice, herbs, lemon. Taste was sour, sweet, herbal, sage, lemon.
4.2 July 8th, 2015 - I'm already glowing with enthusiasm after my first Crooked Stave beer, but the Wild Sage has caught my eye for its curious but promising flavor. Gold with a light chill haze in the glass, it's the aroma that strikes that first botanical note with heavy sage and cinnamon. There's also a bit of toasted cumin, with an all-around smell of Fall. A puff of lemongrass adds freshness that is more citric than botanical. The appealing intensity of the sage on the smell has been pared back for the palate, offering a balanced, mild and brilliantly designed beer. There's a mild sweet glow in the mid-taste, with a longer aftertaste like fresh rain in the desert, preceded by a well paced tour de force of sage's beautiful flavor and smell.
3.6 [Can (355ml)] Pours a hazy, bubbly yellow-gold with a large long-lasting fluffy white head. Nice Bretty aroma along with some herbs, yeast and lemon. Lightly tart Bretty and fruity flavour along with yeast, herbs and lemon. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
3.5 Clear, golden yellow pour with fairly quick white foam. Good herbal nose with clear strains of sage, spice and brett. These notes come out in the taste along with a nicely balanced lemon profile. The esters give it an earthy, woody aspect. The body is soft and there is a good mineral aspect reminiscent of Belgian saisons. It's a little strong -- more of a super saison. Overall quite good. Sampled at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival 27 October 2018. Thanks to Chad Yacobson.
3.6 Bottle. Undated; Bought Dec 2017; BB not known; Drank Oct 2018 - Hazy yellow in colour. Large creamy white head. Excellent lacing. Strong herbal aroma. Very herbal, sage, grassy, yeasty, brett, funk, spicy, peppery, citrus lemon, peel, pale malts. Quite dry. Tart very herbal spicy yeasty citrus throughout. Sage dominates taste. Very decent tasty herbal brew. Liked it. (2018-10)
3.6 355ml can. Pours gold with a large head. Aroma is herbal, sage, floral soap. Taste is herbal throughout. Light Brett on the finish. Slightly soapy aftertaste. Could do with a bit more funk.
3.8 Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is lemon, mild citronella, floral, sage. Taste is soapy, herbal, floral, soft carbonation. Candle and soap vibes but not in a terrible way.
3.3 Lett tåkete lys gulbrun med lavt hvitt skum. Lukter sitrus og gress. Bittersur smak. Grapefrukt og sure bær. middels lang. (The Beavertown Extravaganza 2018)
2.9 Tap at BeavEx2018, London. Colour is slightly cloudy golden with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Wood, some spices, somr sourness and some herbal elements.
3.7 Can pour. Cloudy light gold with a nice fine head. Aromas of lemons and yeast must. Flavor is very lemongrass forward with a hint of pineapple. The sage is very subtle and gives a light earthy chlorophyll note. A mild hint of tartness if any at all. Really smooth and enjoyable beer.
3.5 Can. Mitchell’s Wines, Sheffield. Dark, straw gold. Thin and sticky, white head. Nose has pithy citrus brett. Lemon. Soft herb. Pepper. Some tropical fruit. Taste has a little fruity sweetness, with some peppery and herbal character. Medium body. Slick texture. Low carbonation. Fruity, and a little dry on the finish. Not sure when this was packaged, but maybe the brett needs to do its thing a little longer. Needs a tad more punch.
4.1 OMBF 2017. Dzikusy wyczuwalne, nuty saison, nowofalowe chmiele, piana ładna.
Wytrawne, z nuta żółtych owoców i mniej intensywną cytryną. Finisz lekko cierpki - przypomina białe albedo cytryny.
