Crux Cast Out IPA

Crux Cast Out IPA

Many breweries procure their hops right here in the Northwest. But this beer features the Galaxy hop from Australia, a country famously populated by England’s cast out convicts. Cast Out IPA employs these hops aggressively from hop back to dry hopping stages. Yet the result is a balanced and bronzy ale, with medium hop bitterness complemented by moderate maltiness, showcasing aromas and flavors reminiscent of passion fruit.

3.3 Lighter amber colored with a white head. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, light caramel. Medium bodied, moderate bitterness, citrus and tropical fruit flavors dominate.
2.7 @Darbys. Cloudy, bit of a dull sandy colour. Pours with a pretty thick head. Aroma is piney and earthy. Taste is about the same...piney, chewy and unfortunately some diacetyl lingering in the background. A bit of alcohol taste in the finish along with that resinous bitterness.
3.6 Can from Tully's Beer. Pours golden with a white head. leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. lots of tropical fruit notes and pine on the nose and tongue. finished clean and dry. Pretty good old fashioned West coast IPA.

3.4 500 ml bottle. Pours a clear light amber with full head. Aromas of herbal dank hops, a bit of sulphur, and bready malts. Flavors of biscuity malts, light pithy citrus and tropical fruit with odd herbal, earthy, spicy notes.
3.8 Pours a clear golden orange on tap with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big new school hop notes, resinous earthy zest, with a hint of bready malt. Taste follows, really nice IPA with mild bitterness. I’m a fan, outcast or cast out.
3.8 Rating #2501 - 2017.07.26 - Crux Tap Takeover @revolutionyeg - 8oz. Pour. Pours a crisp straw golden with a bubbly white head, little retention. Aroma is grass, wet dog, orange rind, and earth. Way more citrus on the palate than in aromatic, some decent tangerine notes, some pineapple, lemon peel with a healthy dose of bitterness. Lovely IPA.
3.3 Aroma is pine and pepper and baker’s yeast. Behind that is a light citrus reminiscent of orange rind and grapefruit. It pours a dark translucent amber with a huge frothy head that lasts. Taste is pepper and pine sap, lots of bitterness, with grapefruit orange.
3.7 500ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is grapefruit, tropical fruits and hints of caramel and grains. Taste is a grapefruit and pine hop bitterness with a tropical fruity and caramel malty sweetness. Medium bodied with good carbonation that pleases the palate. Overall, a well crafted brew that is sure to please most hop lovers out there. Recommended.
3.4 12 fl oz can. Pours clear and golden orange with a white head. Aroma is mild peachy and grapefruity. Mild sweet. Crisp hoppy. Medium dry and slight bitter. Hoppy finish.
4.0 500ml bottle. Yellow toned brew with light haze and a small but long ladting white soapy head of foam. Hops in the nose - fruity, pineapple, tropical. Taste is citrusy, tropical fruits and pineappke with good bitterness. Big drinkabilty, body is lighter, nice carbonation and a good mouth feel. Some tropical bitterness left behind. Super.
3.5 Dark orange, super-bitter, dry-hopped ale. Like an ESB, with malt and pine and sticky toffee. Light amount of fruit on the hops.
3.7 Draft at Churchkey. Poured a clear yellow orange color with a small white head. Aroma was nice juicy tropical fruit notes, with a nice lightly sweet citrus note to it.
3.4 Light citrus. Some lime. Pretty good balance like trampoline backflips. Light bitter finish. Tap at Churchkey.
3.9 On tap at Hops & Pie. Hazy yellow to golden appearance with a fluffy white head and light lacing. Pleasant aroma of zesty hops and citrus/tropical fruit. Similar flavor, adding mild to moderate hop bitterness and a light malt sweetness. Medium body with a slight resinous hop finish. Clean and easy to drink, a nice IPA overall.
4.2 Aroma’s fresh hops, grapefruit, malt, minerals. Flavor’s like nose, very well balanced. Excellent body and finish. Super easy drinking.
3.2 Draft at the brewpub. Gold in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of pale malt, iron, dried cypress, and black pepper. Quite grassy on the palate along with elements of hay, minerals, and burnt grapefruit peel. A bit disjoint for me.
3.6 Appearance: Honey amber lightly hazy. Finger of white foam. Nose: Floral, herbal and a touch pine hops. Touch of sweetness. Taste: Dry with elegant herbal and floral hops. Lighter roasted malt. Body: medium to lighter and lively Parting thoughts: A crisp and refreshing IPA. Not my typical favorite style, but still very good.
3.8 Can from CBC Belmont. Gold clear with fluffy dense head and lace. Pine tropical fruit mango aroma. Mild tropical fruit apricot sweetness with grassy malts with a hint of cereal graininess. Medium bitter spicy peppery with some residual cereal and syrupy sweetness. Medium light body assertive carbonation to accentuate hops give a bite. Nice enough.
3.4 Soft full aroma, pine, citrus, slightly catty, herbal, hefty caramel backbone, deep golden in color, only lightly bitter. Very good.
3.7 From a 12 oz. can. Pours a clear gold with an off white head. Aroma of pine and citrus. Flavors of mangos and kiwi. Delicious.
2.9 Way too fizzy for me. It’s a shame, because it’s not bad otherwise. Slightly cloudy, golden yellow colour. Bitter-ish but not too hoppy.
3.5 2 month old 12 oz bottle. Hazy orange-straw color, strong carbonation visible. White 1/2 inch bubbly head, leaving thick lacing. Aroma is citrus, but not too strong, some floral. Initial taste is floral. Perhaps some fruit. Plenty of malt holding up the mouth feel. Transitions to a mildly bitter finish. Lingering bitter and citrus presence in the mouth. Enjoyable, a very good west coast IPA.
3.7 Portland, Or - Beaumont Market - 12 oz bottle. Hazy, medium orange pour, off white head, light lacing. Solid spruce aroma. Bitter citrus essence, grapefruit, strong. Solid, but one dimensional. Thick richly textured mouthfeel.
2.6 Pours a golden straw color with a malty aroma. Taste is bitter, a little grainy, with a bitter aftertaste.
3.7 Pours a cloudy straw with a small off white head and very good lacing. Smell is of citrus, hops, caramel, and wood. Taste is bitter, citrus, some malt in back, a little pine, and dandelion. Ends crisp and bitter.
2.7 Maybe it’s the hops from halfway around the world, or maybe it wasn’t the freshest bottle of beer...but the danky aroma just didn’t do it for me. Okay tasting, with a long bitter finish.
3.7 Tropical fruit aroma in a golden amber pour. Hop forward balance with a fruity body and big bitter finish. An interesting change (aroma) from the usual US DIPA.
3.7 Cast out ipa crux thanks for sharing Mike A bright light gold with a dank toe jam jammy passionfruit aroma. Light bodied and very dry with a big dank fruit flavor. A month old from the states so quite fresh. I didn’t like it quite as much as Half-Hitch but this is a damn fine beer.
