Deep amber in color with a fruity aroma which brings a complex mix of malts and mainly English hops including Fuggles and Northdown. With a hint of barley wine, it is ideal to accompany food.

3.0 Poured a dark copper color with lots of sediment floating around. Thin off-white head. Aroma is slightly skunky with malts and bread. Some honey as well. Taste is slighlty bitter at first with biscuit, caramel, and bread. Slightly skunky towards the finish. Aftertaste is pretty interesting, very malty with grains. Creamy too. Overall decent!
3.5 Cask at The Old Bell, Harrogate. Pours a clear deep amber with a small lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, grain and light hops. Flavour of caramel malt, light hops, some fruit and grain. Average bodied. Pretty good.
3.1 Thanks to Blankboy. Appearance: Dark orange, small white head. Aroma: Wet hops, a little lactose, some good malt in there. Flavour: Tea, mild hops, lots of malt, apple and a grainy finish.
3.2 500ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Clear amber-gold, smallish diminishing white frothy/creamy head. Aroma of grass, appleseed and apple. Taste of apple, caramel, roses, yeast, some alcohol - a bit of a mineral tang. Slick, light body, mild carbonation with a longish pungently floral/sweet finish .. .hard to judge the alcohol. Sweet, sticky, fairly nice.
3.2 Bottle. Clear amber colour with small creamy off-white mostly diminishing head. Malty aroma. Sweet flavor. Oily palate.
2.8 bread, golden, clear, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation.

3.2 Bottle: Clear, amber, lacy white head; sweet fruity (some raisins detectable) nose, shy hops underneath; moderate bitter sweet flavour, medium bodied, soft; raisins again in the bitter-sweet finish. Unspectacular, but quite O.K.......
3.2 Bottle - Murky toffee colour. Beige head.Very low carbonation. Smooth. Caramel. Sweet and fruity. Yeasty. Rather earthy. Medium bitterness.
3.2 500ml Bottle at Home 14/04/2010 Carbonation. Large white head. Golden coloured hoppy and bitter with a little dryness in a lasting malt finish.
3.4 500ml bottle. Light ruby to amber colour with a flat beige head. Looks solid enough with hop and malt aromas with an underlying sweetness. Strong taste, almost whisky like, and you can tatse the alcohol.
2.6 Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Old bottle, not sure of the age. Hazy amber. Fairly malty with some sweetness. Touch of dry hop presence on the finish. Has held up reasonably well but not especially interesting. More like a fruity premium bitter than a strong ale.
2.1 A Mes rate: bottle at the ever brilliant Chris O’s Pre GBBF Extravaganza. Clean amber with a thin off white head. Slightly floral. Sickly malt. Sweet and chewy and generally not good.
2.7 Date: November 21, 2009 Mode: Bottle Source: Tasting, Cellar Party Appearance: hazy amber, frothy off white head, drippy lace Aroma: sweet malt aroma, light fruityness, balancing earthyness, light British butter Flavor: sweet malt flavor, nice fruity character, light earthyness Aroma: 5/10; Appearance: 6/10; Flavor: 6/10; Palate: 6/10; Overall: 10/20 Rating: 2.7/5.0 Drinkability: 7/10 Score: ** /4
3.9 Appearance: Pours a clear, amberesque body with a frothy, cheerfully bubbly, ivory-colored head. Smell: Initial notes of swiftly toasted, sparsely buttered biscuits with a hint of sweet, crisp toffee following close behind. Lastly, the spicy-scented hops and a tinge of fruit reach my aged nostrils. Taste: Toasty biscuit malt tones with lightly sweet touches of toffee and brown sugar. Slight estery fruitiness. Little muttering of buttery diacetyl. Seemingly and assumed English hops with a light spiciness and harmonizing bitterness. Ripon Jewel Ale becomes a tad minerally on the sweetish, soft finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Drinkability: A very graceful, well-balanced, tasty beverage. I dug it, maybe you will, too.
1.8 Old bottle, L195. Murky brown pour. Smell is a little yeasty and sweet. Yes, old beer flavors. No detectable carbonation. Weird beer personality, with hints of barley wine. Good description on the label. Full, yes, Body? I dunnoh. No sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Seems like a mild stronger ale if thats possible. A tiny bit of gaggy in there. Finish.......too old to rate, I’ll have to try this again soon. Ratherm crude linger.

3.6 Very deep amber over a good frothy head. Rich malty ale with alot of redness. Good beer all round.
2.1 Slightly hazy amber with a small white head. Sweet caramel and diacetyl aroma. Sweet, near cloying caramel flavour
3.1 Bottle. Clear orange amber with a short-lived white cap. Initial aroma is quite floral, but with time sweet caramel with light spice settles in. The palate has rather simple flavours of caramel, light spice, and mild bittering hops. Not bad, but nothing really stands out.
2.6 Bottle at the legend of chriso’s pre GBBF09 tasting. Alround rating: Pale malt, a little grassy hop character, not much else going on.
3.3 Bottle. 5.8%. Brought back from England by the inlaws. Bought in Ripon Cathedral. Divine powers conspired to create this, as it is an excellent ale. Amber colour pour, weak creamy head whitish/tan in colour, mild retention. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and sweet fruits. Taste is superb, sweet malts and barley, with an excellent, smooth finish. Nothing too complex on the palate, just a simple, great tasting ale.
