Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout

Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout

It’s big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.

4.0 Flarra restaurant balkongen.
2.8 Sample from the bottle. Pitch black pour with a light brown head. Typical imperial stout profile. Dark and roasty flavor but the alcohol overwhelms the flavors. The 11% ABV is obvious and very distracting.
4.0 0.355 l bottle from 'Etre Gourmet', cellared for about two years. Pitch black with a thin, beige layer. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of dark chocolate, toasted nuts, some coffee and a touch of licorice. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, toasted nuts and a touch of dark fruits, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, earthy and a bit resiny finish. Medium to full body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Intense, superbly balanced, pleasant mouthfeel, just a very good RIS! I really liked the bourbon BA version but this is probably as good as a non-BA Stout can get.
4.6 Jet black pour with an ultra soft small brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee. Flavour of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, figs and a hint of alcohol. Soft on the tongue. Full mouthful.
4.1 A sampling acquired at a beer bar in the city center of Arnhem. It poured a chestnut brown with a decent medium tan head. The smell is chocolate and grain. I have a drink, dark chocolate, malt, some brown sugar sweetness. The taste cuts through the numbness of multiple tastings. Nice.
3.8 12oz bottle. Deep roasty, malty nose, coffee, burnt brownie. Black with a mostly fading tan head. Mostly dry, pretty strong, warming. Full bodied.
3.6 This was on tap at Wexford Pub, Dark cola color and a bit oily, Some lacing Port notes but not overwhelming, a little coffee and not too sweet.
4.1 strong coffee, moderate chocolate aromas. pitch black in color like engine oil with huge long lasting head. taste is richly malty of coffee, moderate chocolate, light roasted barley
4.1 Had from bottle. Super dark brown-black with a rich frothed cocoa like head. Smell is robust, like dark breads, molasses, and lightly coffee. The tast is bold yet retains smoothness.
4.1 12 ounce bottle. Opaque black pour. Small creamy brown head. Faint roasted malt nose. Hints of cocoa and licorice. Intense roasted malt flavor upfront. Notes of treacle, soy sauce and scorched raisins. Further notes of espresso and licorice adorn the taste buds. The smooth silky mouthfeel hides the 11% ABV. Lots of resiny hops finish this brew properly.
4.0 Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with chocolate, cocoa, fruity hops, salty liquorice, caramel toffee, touch of coffee and vanilla. Flavour is pretty sweet with a firm roasty hoppy bitterness. Body is medium to full. Tasty Imperial Stout despite the liquorice, nice chocolate aroma with an inspired touch of hops.
4.0 Intense whoofs of chocolate and roast come together at my tongue with this lovely beer. It is indeed one of the classic stouts out there, full of taste and beautiful senses.
4.0 Jet black pour with brown head. Nose of intense roasted malt and coffee. Taste follows with some chocolate notes. Great balance of malt and hops. Great beer.
4.2 Bottle. Color: Black, light brown head. Aroma: Sweetish roasted malt, mocha, coffee, hop hints, liquorice. Taste: Medium sweet, roasted malt, coffee, mocha. Vanilla hints. Alternating with medium bitter floral hopnotes. Hints of liquorice. Bittersweet roasted malt finish. Over medium body. Long lasting finish. Nicely balanced, not as sweet and more bitterness as some other Imperial Stouts. Good beer.
3.9 Avellana, chocolate, café, cacao, fruto negro. Densa y equilibrada con regusto de amargor acafetado.
4.0 12oz bottle (thx, Connor G.!) shared with Andrey. Pours an almost black with a dark brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, ink, some leather and fruits. Taste is similar with some smoky notes. Oily, moderately sweet. Good one.
3.5 Bottle. Darkest brown, no head. Umami, cinnamon and licorice. Medium mellow body, Christmas, Light sticky chocolate, nice spice, good balance.
4.1 Bottle, Brewdog. Black with a thin beige head. Rich coffee with burnt toffee and brown sugar. Earthy with liquorice and spices. Gritty and dusty cocoa. Molasses. Blackberry. Vanilla and oak. Very good.
4.1 Creamy beige head stayed on a very dark brown body. Huge aroma of cocoa & dark spirits. Medium to full bodied, slightly tingly on the fore with a soft back. Vanilla, bourbon, dark spirits, lactose, demerara & coffee hints. Tremendous
4.1 On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours pitch black. Chocolate, coffee, liquorice, plum, toast, red fruit, biscuit. Good body. Very nice.
4.4 Great taste very moreish
3.2 Almost black with a thin layer of mocha head that disappears almost istantly. Aroma is on the sweetish side of imperial stout with moderate roasted malts and coffe, chocolate notes and a warming alcohol feel. Not too deep. Taste follows the aroma with medium to high sweetness and medium bitterness, resulting in an overall sweet feel. Finish is warming and slightly boozy with a sweetish sugary aftertaste. Overall quite intense but again not too deep or clean. Dense bodied with low to medium carbonation, in an overall quite dense, semi-silky mouthfeel. This was surely not bad but i didn't find it that well crafted.
3.9 Bottle. Almost black. Coffee, roast and chocolate in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty flavor with ash, coffee and chocolate. Slightly salted. Moderate carbonation. Well balanced, tasty and aromatic.
4.0 LCI. Uit de fles geschonken. Mooie imp stout. Gebrande mout, koffie, drop. Fris door de koolzuur. Prima!
4.0 Keg at BrewDog, Clapham, London in Oct 2018 - Opaque black in colour. Slight beige head. Roast malty chocolatey aroma. Very malty; roasty malts, dark chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, liquorice. Fruity; dark fruits, raisins, plums. Hoppy; some balancing hop bitterness. Great depth of flavour. Sweet bitter roast chocolate and coffee malty fruity throughout. Excellent Impy Stout. Enjoyed this. (2018-10)
3.7 35,5cl bottle split with SimonBlok at café de koffer in Groningen. Pours a pitch black colour with almost no head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, slight soy sauce, dark malt, roasted malt. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter with a moderate dry finish. Notes of roasted malt, dark malt, dark chocolate, slight coffee. Texture is oily, full bodied with soft carbonation
3.9 35,5cl bottle at Café De Koffer. Appearance: pitchblack with medium sized beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, oatmeal, some smoke and slightly fruity. Taste: high sweetness and above medium bitterness. Notes of dark malts, light coffee, some cacao, hint of smoke. Palate: full bodied, sticky texture and soft carbonation. Overall: pleasant imp stout! Not too harsh, nor boozy. I like it!
4.6 It's been too long since I've enjoyed a Dark Horse beer, so I figured I ought to have a strong, full-bodied beer to make up for lost time. This surely is one hell of an Imperial Stout. It has a jet black appearance. The brown head stays around for quite some time. Dark chocolate aromatics. Flavors of burnt grain. Assertive American hops appear at the end. This Imperial Stout tastes quite a bit more bitter than the stated IBUs would indicate, and while it's well-balanced and hides the 11% ABV carefully, its richness and depth of charred malt would make you think that this beer is even bigger. This is a no-frills Stout with noticeable American swagger. A wonderful sipper.
3.6 Color negro con capa de espuma marrón de dos dedos de grosor y buena retención. Carbonatación suave. Textura entre oleosa y cremosa. Aroma a melaza, chocolate, café lejano, pasas, bizcocho, azúcar moreno. Chocolate, pasas, melaza, bizcocho y azúcar moreno en boca. Ligero dulzor. Final de ligero amargor, licoroso. Alcohol bien integrado. Postgusto a ceniza.
