Dark Horse Scotty Karate Scotch Ale

Dark Horse Scotty Karate Scotch Ale

For those of you who don’t know who "Scotty Karate" is... He is a local one man band who plays an amazing slurry of honky tonk influenced, punk country songs. His voice is amazing as well as his high energy shows. (Check him out @ www.scottykaratetime.com) So, we decided to make a beer and name it in his honor. This beer is a big, full bodied Scottish ale. It is 9.75% alc. but it is very smooth and balanced. Since Scotty is also very passionate about beer I asked him to write a description for you, so from the man himself...
Aroma: Smells like A fresh caramel apple with a hint of cinnamon inside of cranberry shortbread. Or maybe fresh home made hard candy (from home economics class-7th grade).
Flavor: Tastes like a smokey chocolate chip cookie, wild roadside cherry-asparagus, woody, crispy leaf on a fall day.

4.0 35,5cl Bottle @ 3er Tiempo Tienda de Cervezas, Santander, Spain. Dark brown colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, dark fruits, toffee. Taste is malt, sweet, plums, toffee, nuts. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.8 When I'm looking for a good scotch ale, this is the type I'm trying to find. It's full-bodied, slightly sweet, but has a slight bite and has some texture. It's a great blend.
4.7 Aus der Flasche 2016-01 getrunken. Was für ein fettes Teil. Ein perfekter dunkler Traum eines schottischen Starkbieres.
2.8 12floz bottle, dated 08.29.2017 (unknown if BBD or BOD), $2.50 single, pint glass. Appears a dark-red/medium-brown color with basically no head. Smells perhaps oxidized, butterscotch otherwise. This beer feels much lighter than expected, medium body and flat. Tastes like honey cereal with some 'forest' flavor thrown in. I suspect this wasn't not an optimum bottle. I'll put this in the to try again at some point bucket.
;) Was bleibt, ist prägend. Muddy, brown & unmissverständlich schnapswoody. 355ml von BEERGIUM.COM.
4.2 Bottle. Pours foggy chestnut brown. Small off-white well-lacing head. Rich aroma: caramel, nuts, toffee, fruit jam, sherry. Sweet but complex. Medium to full body. Still easy-drinking. Taste: rich malts, subtle fruit, bread, nuts, some hops. Everithing but sticky. Perfectly balanced. Delicious.
3.4 Dark brown colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have a lot of candied red fruits. Some caramel malts too.
3.0 Bottle@home, from Beer Republic. Slightly yeasty and funky nuances of dark fruits like plum and fig, wood and a bit bitter red berries. Averagely balanced with wide taste spectrum and long, nutty and woody aftertaste. Medium body and medium/light carbonation. Overall, a bit home made feeling with too light, watery mouthfeel.
3.7 Klares, dunkles Rotbraun mit relativ wenig Schaum. Malzig, etwas Karamell, dunkle Schokoladen, nussig, leichte Rauchnoten, getrocknete Früchte, sehr süffig.
3.9 Pours a deep chestnut with light head. Aroma is cereal and spice. Taste is at once a cinnamon flavor, opening up to a sweet maltiness with a slight burn on the finish. A very smooth beer that is perfect after a good meal.
3.9 C+. Pours a black color with khaki head. Kinda bitter after taste, cookie aroma
3.4 March 2014. Plenty of what makes A scotch ale a scotch ale. Full-bodied, robust, smoky and acidic. Notes of chocolate and toffee. Lots of malts and it hides the high alcohol well. And in-your-face take it or leave it brew. A slightly bitter acidic and long-lasting aftertaste. A fine brew. I enjoyed it and would drink it on tap or at a friends house, but considering it has the same number of calories as a Belgian quad I would have to pass in in favor of the quad
3.9 Bottle. Bronze color, a little creamy foam. Aroma: sweet malt, dried fruits, raisins, caramel, nuts and halva. Taste: sweetish, dried fruits, light smoked meat, raisins, caramel, bourbon, good balance.
3.7 Bottle. Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average creamy, mostly to fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, smoke - rubber. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, rubber, roasted malt, chocolate.
3.5 Bottle (12oz). Deep red, with off white head. Candy aroma. Taste is quite sweet, carmel, peat, a little smokiness.
3.3 Bottle from Saveur biere. Pours brown with off white head. Aroma is nuts, pine, wood, a bit of honey. Nice beer.
4.3 Pleasantly rich aroma, with a nice deep red color. Oaky taste with a nice coating mouthfeel. Finish is a bit dry and lacks the complexity of the rest of the beer, but still nice. Would drink on occasions, is cool.
3.2 Dark amber/brown beer has a chocolate/caramel aroma. Flavor is bigger to include figs and dried red fruit. Finish is a little spicier in the finish.
4.0 10/IV/17 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: I/3/14 (2017-439) Cellar find! Clear dark amber to purple brown beer, creamy yellowish beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, lots of dried fruits, caramel, butter scotch, soft roast, bit of banana. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: soft roast, sweet, caramel, lots of dried fruits, bit sugary. Aftertaste: slightly bitter, hoppy touch, some caramel, banana, bit malty, sweet, some alcoohol but mainly it’s pretty well hidden for a 10% ABV.
3.5 A very nice scotch ale, unique flavors. Pours a deep Amber-brown with a thin tan head. Smells of lemon squares, plums, caramel. Taste has lots of lemon, caramel, sea salt and plums. Light finish. Had in the bottle.
3.9 Bue à la pressino. Couleur brun foncé. Grosse mousse épaisse. Nez caramel, grillé, alcool léger. Palais agréable, arômes complexes de caramel, de grain, malt grillé, fruits noirs. Ensemble très agréable.
3.5 Shared bottle. Light brown colour, small tan head. Aroma of caramel, bread, some cocoa. Taste is medium to heavy sweet, light bitter, caramel, toffee, bread. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to average. Very good, with strong malty character.
3.4 Decent Scotch ale, pretty massive for the style, a heavy-ass wee heavy. Aroma slaps you with a hearty dose of caramel and slight red apple fruitiness. The pour is no great shakes, thick and red but with little head and no lacing. Taste starts sweet, grows boozy, and finishes sweet. Doughy chocolate mixes with caramel and a dash of raisins and banana, then picks up a modest bitterness to help dissipate all the sugariness. Doesn’t help much, however; the finish is caramel bun with a woody undertone, and the fade picks up a mild bready yeast note. Hides the massive ABV well, that’s for sure, yet it still comes across a little slack with the mouthfeel. Wonder how the bourbon barrel edition stacks up?
4.4 0.33l bottle. Dark orange body with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, toast, figs and dried dates. Taste of caramel, dates, nutmeg, honey, raisins, some chocolate and toast. Awesome beer.
3.6 Bottle from Beergium. Light brown color, white head. Bittersweet taste with citrus, toffee, malts, caramel, nuts, a bit of leather and wood. Bittersweet finish with citrus, toffee, nuts, caramel, leather, wood and a bit of chocolate. Very nice scotch ale.
3.7 Aroma: strong mix of caramel, bread and a little bit woody. Appearance: Dark brown colour with minimal head which reduces itself to a beige ring. Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, mostly caramel and dried fruits with a little woody aftertaste Palate: medium body, oily-sticky feeling, quite high carbonation, a little bit alcohol finish. Overall: Not a must have but a really good representation of "Scotch Ale" style.
3.8 12 oz bottle pours a slightly hazy reddish brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is full of caramel and vanilla with touches of sour berries and chocolate. Has a big bready flavor in the middle, but tastes neither sweet nor bitter. Body is medium to full without too much carbonation. There’s enough going on in this that I wanted to quickly follow one sip with another to see what I missed the first time. Easily drinkable for 9.75%, and one I’ll gladly try again.
3.9 Bottle; pours clear amber with a thin tan head; aroma is sweet with caramel, brown sugar, and vanilla with a hint of wood and fruit; taste is sweet with caramel, vanilla, malt, brown sugar, and a some wood notes; finish is mostly dry with a hint of smoky bitterness; quite good
3.9 @ Budapest. Pours with a mahogany colored body and a very good tan head. Gunky sediment in the bottle with a bit in the glass too. Nice caramel malt aroma and flavor. Well hidden alcohol: I was surprised to see 9.75% ABV listed. Full body with a light touch of alcohol.
