Dark Horse Smells Like A Safety Meeting IPA

Dark Horse Smells Like A Safety Meeting IPA

S.L.A.S.M. is our most Aromatic IPA. This India Pale Ale is very reminiscent of the hop’s cousin in the Mulberry family. Lots of hop aroma with just the right amount of bitterness as we like to keep balance around here. Between the secret blend of the most DANK hops we can get our hands on and a "more than healthy" dose of double dry hopping, this beer can be announced to the nose from across the room that someone is definitely having a Safety Meeting.

3.6 Bottle poured a clear amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, earthiness, pine and light citrus. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel, earthiness and light pine with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish.
3.9 Not sure how this beer gets its smoky backbone, but I sure do like it. Big, juicy resinous hops take the forefront, pine and grapefruit and weed on top of a big sticky caramel bun with an unexpected dose of char on the finish. Dry and bitter, with a dank green nose and no trace of the 9% ABV. Nice DIPA.
3.8 Orange pour with tan head. Aroma is bready malt and resiny hops. Flavor is sweet malt and resiny hops. Medium body with full bitter
4.0 Copper color with a beige head. The aroma contains some caramel, herbal notes, toffee, and citrus. The flavor is Arrogant Bastard-ish with some caramel. toffee, citrus, and chocolate. This is much more of a strong ale than an Impy IPA. . Overall well balanced but a little more malty than bitter. Its good
2.5 The aroma is full of hops, caramel malt, barley, citrus, pine and dried fruits. The color is dark red, caramel-like. The head is minimal and yellowish frothy. The taste is full of hops, caramel malt, dried fruits, pine, citrus, lemon zest and elderflower. Not impressing at all!
4.3 hazy dark orange to amber colour, medium sized creamy yellowish off-white head; aroma of tropical fruits, pine resin, biscuits, floral notes and marmalade; perfectly balanced bittersweetness with marmalade, tropical fruity notes, biscuits, honey, pine resin and hints of boiled vegetables; excellent IIPA
4.1 33cl. Bottle. Pours dark amber with white head. Aroma pine, citrus, caramel, bread, hops. Taste caramel sweets, piney citrus bitters. Mouthfeel oily. Great brew.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark amber with a soft sudsy white head that settles to a wispy film. Aroma is floral citrus old hops and malty bread. Taste is bitter hops spicy citrus bready malt caramel and noticeable alcohol. Palate is medium sticky and warming.
4.0 Bottle. Slightly murky brown appearance. Floral flavours and hops merge together to produce a misleadingly easy to drink beer. Strange label-impressive beer.
3.8 On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and dispensed to a snifter showing a clear, amber hue, with a frothy layer of off white/light tan head foam, and sheeting, wave-like spray to the lacing. The nose was dank, sweetness, and esters as ripe fruit, berries, pit fruit, and citrus. Medium bodied, with okay carbonation, the taste included pronounced & lingering intensity to the citrusy, earthy, and rind-like bitterness, amped by a decent alcohol presence. Expressive, single IPA beginning that definitely finished with double status.
3.4 Bottle - Citrus and light dank grassy hops. Clearish gold with a decent beige head. Earthy and a touch of spice with some bitterness.
3.8 12 oz. bottle, pours a hazy dark amber orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out earthy hops, toasted caramel, and lots of fruity esters. Flavour brings out a huge spicy and earthy hop quality, with a fair degree of dankness, and toasted dry caramel malt backing. Very expressive in the hop department, with a lovely spicy and earthy finish. Excellent.
3.7 Draft at Capital Ale House in Innsbrook The ale poured a clear dark amber color with an off white head and lacing. This is a very attractive beer. The aroma of floral hops and caramel mats. The medium body ale has average carbonation. There is nicely balanced bitterness which is realized more in the back of the mouth. Despite impressive hop flavor, bitterness is smooth and rounded, and the alcohol’s deftly hidden.
3.4 12 oz bottle. Bottled 06/07/16. (Siciliano’s) Grand Rapids, MI. Hazy reddish amber color with a small off-white head. Malt, hops (not that fresh), moderate bitterness and some herbs in the aroma. The flavor is grassy, piney and resiny hops, moderate bitterness, dry malt and some herbal notes. Very drinkable.
3.3 330ml bottle from Saveur-Biere. Kalavklp. Dark orange/red colour with a small head. Refreshing aroma, medium bitterness, caramel, sticky, strong. Allright.
3.8 Pint at Craft to go- Not much head so it seems that the citrusy smell dissipates quickly. Good color; a hazy caramel color. A great amount of hops hits you and sticks with you until the sweetness catches up. Pretty refreshing.
3.6 Little head heavy lacing. Smells musty hoppy. Dark caramel color. Sits well on tongue. Nice bitter aftertaste. Great IPA
3.8 Pours a dark, cloudy, amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is strong of floral hops, caramel malts, and a surprising amount of alcohol. Flavor is kind of light at first with floral hops. Finishes bitter with some alcohol warming.
3.5 Draught. Slightly cloudy dark amber with very small frothy whitish head, orange peel aroma, low carbonation, medium bitter grapefruit taste, thin body, long bitter citrusy finish. Bitter and dank DIPA.
3.4 Pours a brownish amber color. Very little aroma, surprised by this fact, given that the beer is advertised as their most aromatic. Perhaps the tap vs bottle makes that difference? Mild smell of sour hops. Taste is much better. Nice bitter hops. Good mouth feel. Tasty. Tap.
3.1 On tap at clbc. Pours Amber with thin short lived head, balanced sweet malt taste, no alcohol flavor. Solid ipa
3.4 Hazy light brown colour. Lots of bready malts and some sweet caramelised fruits too.
3.8 Bottle from bradley...great fruit nose...really nice balance...just sweet enough and light malt....alcohol not present...solid brew.
3.6 Heavy nose that is very nice. Hops are really delicious in this beer that is a bit heavy but for the most part enjoyable to drink. Had from the brewery.
3.8 Tap at Pyramid Scheme. Bit hazy dark golden. Lots of tropical fruit, orange juice, caramel, soft pine cones, some flowers, toffee malts. Over medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied. Nice!
3.0 Bottle. Nose is dank but not as advertised, much more in the way of tropical fruit and pine, touch of dough, sugar. Pour is dark amber-brown, hazy and gradient, head jiggly tight tan with a little hint of legs. Taste sweet and rubbery-bitter with lots of dull caramel and some red berry, pine, bark, earth verging on scorch. Full body a little dull, still fresh, not heavy or showing alcohol, and giving just a hint of pumpernickel and toasted bread crusts in the slimy finish. Like it well enough, but not the innovation I’d hoped for. [2016.08.12: 3.0]
3.7 Bottle. Orange, lemon, toffee malt, and orange peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with medium head. Moderately sweet orange, lemon, toffee malt, and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Solid.
3.4 From the bottle the beer pours an amber color with a medium head. Aroma of citrus and malts. The taste is pretty mild with herbs and some hops. Medium finish.
4.3 Aroma is citrus, strong fruit and light pine. The flavor is citrus, toffee, mild chocolate/dark chocolate, malts, grapefruit and a medium bitter/spicy finish.
3.0 Caramel, toffee, and pine resin aromas. Taste is very big caramel, pine resin, and grapefruit. There is also some fig flavors too in the finish and after taste. I like this, but it’s more of an English barleywine. Bottled on 5.12.16; maybe I need to try it fresher.
