Zatte Bie from Brouwerij de Bie is a jet black masterpiece called drunken honey bee, slightly spiced, six different malts used from pale to dark one gives smoky, roasted note that is rare in such a big beer. Truly endearing ale.

3.8the aroma is caramel and fruity with hints of prunes, raisin, toffee, berries and some spices... the taste is caramel and fruity with notes of dried plum, toffee, raisin, licorice and brown sugar... sweet and dry aftertaste...
3.5Enjoying this big, fat bonfire toffee beer. Aroma restrained dark fruity, big body slightly sweet but balancing dry molasses and fruitiness. Someone said Winter Warmer and I agree... I'll be saving my other sample for a cold, dark night.
3.5Bottle. Opaque deep brown. Tall beige head. Fizzy. Low retention. Aroma: spicy Belgian yeast, rich malts, nail polish, dried fruit, bread. Medium minus body. High carbonation. Taste: malty, moderately sweet. Lots of dry fruit, fruit esters, a hint of nail polish. Low to light bitterness. At best an average BDSA.
3.1Donker zwartrobijn kleurig bier. Koffiecreme kleurig bier. Geur zoet lichte vorm van laulier. Smaak zoet drop droge nasmaak.…
3.9Mahogany small lasting head. Caramel stone fruits sweet finish nice winter warmer.
3.8Bottle 33cl at Lars'.
Aroma is lots of malt, caramel, light smoky, ripe fruits.
Pours dark with a dark red shine. Creamy lacing head. Looked lovely.
Taste of dried fruits, plum, fig.
Liked it.
3.533 cl bottle - bbd = 2009
Ten years old, I tasted even older bottles. Magnificent taste. Black as oil, in color and texture. Never tasted the fresh version, but the older bottles are pure gold (black gold)
4.1Robe brune dense, fine mousse.
3.333cl bottle. A dark orange brown beer with a small beige head. Aroma of dark riped fruits, plums, strong malt.Taste of medium sweet and strong malt, riped fruits, dried fruits, plums, a bit sticky.
3.7Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel, Belgium.
The beer is dark brown colored and has a large creamy head with nice carbonation.
The aroma is malty and fruity with notes of roasted malts and caramel but also dried fruits, cacao, coffee, spices and yeast.
Taste is full bodied sweetness and has notes of caramel, dried fruits and raisins and a light bitterness gives notes of yeast, spices, cacao and a hint of alcohol.
The finish is full and long with a light bitterness with some alcohol.
3.6Bottle as a gift. Many thanks! Hazy brown colour. Sweet caramel and malts, light spicy. Bit too sweet and one dimensional.
3.4I was sent this beer by mistake by beernavigator.com, a Belgian outfit, I think. Annoying to get something you did not order when you paid for another product. This is all good. A typical strong Belgian ale, perhaps with a little too much of a Kräuter bitterness on the flavour and an appallingly poor presentation.
3.8F: average, creamy, average lasting, pale brown.
C: dark brown to dark, opaque.
A: malt, chocolate, caramel, honey, touch of roasted malt, raisins, candy, coriander, dried fruits, spicy.
T: malt, roasted malt, raisins, plums, dark caramel, spicy, hint of coffee, herbal, honey, banana, very interesting, quite complex and good balanced, bottle 03/15, 0,33l bottle from Carrefour in Brussels.
3.5Dark brown to black colored, medium beige head, very lasting. aroma is of brown sugar, chocolate, dried fruity, spicy and Belgian yeast. Taste is medium to very sweet caramel, chocolate, light roasted, dried fruits, Belgian yeast, spices. Medium+ bodied, soft carbonation, creamy.

3.4Donker bruin bier met beige schuim. Gebrande moutgeur en karamel. Zoete kandijsmaak met iets vineus en fruitig. Goeie carbonatie. Zoetige afdronk met een vineus zuurtje.
3.4Pitch black, modest head. A: fruity, hairspray, dried apricot, hint of caramel, wine gums. Interesting. T: oily, distinct boozy hairspray taste, hint of cherry, candies. Deep boozy development, warming, but not too overwhelming. Aftertaste is a bit dry. Taste is robust and mature, just a bit too boozy.
3.2Vintage 2012.
Into a chalice at cellar temperature. Cola brown which shimmers in the lights. Head is a steady, creamy and dense off-white foam with oily legs on the meniscus. Nose is dominated by strange notes of Vegemite™ with even stranger hints of kecap manis, soy and Worcestershire sauce. Vinous, sherryish, nutty palate. Prunes and dates with an earthiness that dries it. Not big but weighty enough to b filling. Soft in carbonation and smooth in the finish. Lengthy, musty and earthy, wine-like finish. Light dusty cocoa and wood notes mid-palate with a little burnt, bitter stonefruit. Kind of falls flat a little. Alkaline and ash linger. Not bad, but not the best of Belgian Strong’s. The nose is definitely unique though!! (33cL, Int’l beer Shop, Leederville)
1.8Belgian strong Ale with sugar, that’s the easy way to describe the beer. In fact it’s difficult to say more about it. Well, I can add the taste of alcohol.
2.1Brownish colour with minimal head. Rather high carbonation. On the sweet end of the tongue. Candi sugar? Feels like a watered down version of rochefort.
3.4Dark brown, cloudy appearance. Waterish aroma and taste, however can deel roasted malt, caramel and some fruity lines. However, the water line makes it refreshing
3.2Dark brown almost black with small beige head. Sweetsour fruity taste followed by moderate bitterness, staying in the aftertaste.
3.4Bottle. shared at Alehouse, Chelmsford, 17th June 2015.
White lacing. Dark brown appearance. Aroma is honeycomb, grains and caramel. Taste is caramel, honeycomb, some biscuity malt. Interesting.
3.4Notes from early 90s (and haven’t had it very often anymore since). Bottle. Brown color. Aroma’s: sweet, herbs & spices. Flavor is moderate to full sweet. Quite strong alcohol feel. Medium bodied.. Finishes with a herbal bitterness.
3.6Bottle at home from Brussels, 6th April 15. Ruby red brown, aroma is caramel, dark fruit, sweet. Taste is sweet, caramel raisins, not overly sweet, mouth feel thin. Not a bad beer
3.6Pours caramelly dark , very dark brown. Clear . Small to no white head. Smell is sweet maltyness . Taste is sweet, bitter , aromatic maltyness . Bit burned maltyness . Nice
3.233 cl bottle. Brown colour with small beige head. Honey aroma, sweet taste, oily texture, warming alcoholic finish
