A Superb dry stout with vanilla and smoke notes. Brewed with a portion of Weyermann Oak Smoked Wheat Malt, and whole Madagascar and Réunion vanilla beans that have been added twice during the brewing and maturation process, for extra complexity.

This ensures ’Charbon’ is a very pleasantly drinkable dry stout, with an interesting aroma and flavour to treat the real beer enthusiasts.

3.5 I really have no clue why anybody wants vanilla in a beer but as the label warns me, I will discard the vanilla in the review. Balck beer with a fluffy foam. The beer has all what it promises but it is a little thin. The aftertaste however compensates much as that is nice an long.

3.9 Flaska. Svart med ett rejält beige skum. Dofter av kaffe, rostad malt, hårt rostat bröd och karamell. Smakinslag av kaffe, rostad malt, karamell, vanilj och aska. Torr munkänsla, medel mot stor kropp.

3.6 Nera, versa tre dita di schiuma piuttosto compatta. Aroma di frutti scuri e note erbacee. In bocca emergono note affumicate, di malto tostato e caffè. Retrogusto erbaceo e speziato.

3.3 Uitzicht: Donkerbruin, bijna zwart bier met romige beige schuimkraag met lange weerstand. Aroma: geroosterd, karamel, chocolade, gerookt hout, chocolade, vanille. Smaak: droog, chocolade. Mondgevoel: beladen en warm gehemelte, aangename stekelige mond, intense chocolade en karamel indruk met lange zoete / bittere cacao finale. Totaal: geslaagd bier!

4.0 Bottled 0,33L. Dark brow color, near black, with foamy and creamy beige/nit head of long resistance. Aroma is toasted, roasted, caramle, chocolate, smoked wood, dark/milk chocolate, vanilla. Mouch fraught and warm palate, pleasant prickly mouth, intence chocolate and caramel impression with long sweet/bitter cocoa final.

3.5 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe - Jet black, tan head. Nose is sweet charcoal, coffee, cocoa, burnt sugar. Taste is dry and dusty, quite bitter chocolate taste. Bitter end.

3.8 Un stout plutôt sympa, beaucoup de bulles à l'ouverture qui disparaissent assez rapidement. Une belle robe noire, en bouche, c'est très agréable et pas écoeurant.

4.3 Bière 33 cl achetée chez l'abbaye des saveurs à Lille. Au service, on dirait du coca cola, tant par la couleur que la mousse et même le son que font les bulles vives qui s'évanouissent... La mousse ne tient pas longtemps. Nez ultra fumé qui rappelle presque du bacon. Bouche sur le cacao, le café, le fumé très présent, une bière intense et à la carbonatation vive pour ce registre. Très très réussie ! (M)

3.7 Color negro, opaca. Espuma beige, muy cremosa, de dos dedos de espesor y excelente retención. Aroma medio intenso, maltas tostadas, ligeramente ahumadas, vainilla al atemperar bastante. Sabor medio intenso, maltas tostadas, más ahumadas que en aroma, ligera vainilla, final medio, ligero amargor tostado y aún más ligero ahumado, alcohol bien integrado. Textura poco más que acuosa. Carbonatación baja. Stout que sólo se distingue de la media por el leve toque ahumado, si te la tomas con demasiada calma te arrepentirás, pierde mucha intensidad al atemperar.

3.8 Bottle from BIAB while recovering shipments of meds for poor Night City residents. Very dark with a big tan head, Smoky chocolate nose. The flavor is rather sweet at first, fading to roasted malts and hints of spice. Vanilla is big, smoke is muted but tasty. What a great combination!

3.8 En copa, cerveza negra con una generosa capa de espuma color toffee. Aroma a vainilla, cereales tostados, humo, chocolate, galleta, bizcocho y toffee. En boca, textura ligeramente espesa y algo oleosa, de carbonatación muy baja y amargor a cereal torrefacto. Sabor dulzón a toffee, vainilla, cereales ahumados, chocolate, bizcocho y galletas. Una Stout cargada de vainilla que resulta bastante ligera. Aroma y sabor correctos, agradable de beber. Una Stout para todo el año.

4.7 Au nez : forte et distincte odeur de malt fumé mêlée de chocolat un peu éclipsé. Première bouche : on a confirmation des saveurs suggérées au nez, le fumé est envahissant, puissant, racé, et englobe les notes de chocolat (discrètes) et de brûlé de la dry stout. Attaque directe et presque écoeurante de saveurs écrasantes. Deuxième : descente vers une atténuation où apparaissent subtiles les notes de vanille. Cette bière m'apparaît comme une vraie expérience. Tout à l'opposé du facile à boire, elle colle à son concept ,"charbon" en laissant exploser puis se taire en bouche des saveurs qui ramènent toutes à une sensation de brûlé. Une belle surprise pour ma part, cette bière est venue me chercher dans ma tour d'ivoire de beergeek blasé. Presque parfaite donc si elle n'était pas aussi écoeurante.

3.3 Black beer, thin head. Smells smokey and of a little coffee. Flavour is coffee, a little dark chocolate, some tangy fruit and the smokiness again. Not a hell of a lot else but it's decent.

3.6 Bottle from FinestBelgianBeers. Pours a murky black colour with a slightly reddish hue and a small soapy looking beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak and a slight smokiness. Taste is very similar to the aroma with the same notes and an added hint of rum raisins maybe. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. nice stout.

3.8 Silky smouth, fumé café, mais pas sûr de sentir la vanille

3.9 Robe noire, beaucoup de flocons de levure assez épais. Mousse abondante, brun clair, un peu visqueuse et stable à 1cm. Nez fumé marqué, suivi par de la vanille. Attaque à la fois vanillée et fumée, légère amertume grillée qui se développe en deuxième bouche, soutenue par les arômes de vanille. Le fumé tend vers le brûlé, quoiqu'il évoque aussi un peu la charcuterie. La vanille reste présente tout au long de la dégustation, et on a une certaine sécheresse qui donne un tout assez facilement buvable. Délicat et bien mené.

3.8 Nez: Malt grillé, fruits à coque, vanille Bouche: Malt grillé, chocolat noir, noisette, fruits noirs, vanille, épicée, fumée Un "Smoked Vanilla Stout très noir avec une légère mousse brunâtre et une carbonatation faible. Au nez, la vanille domine accompagnée de légères notes de malt grillé et de fruits à coque. En bouche, l'attaque se fait sur des notes de malt grillé et de chocolat noir avec des notes plus légères de noisette et de fruits noirs. Dans le final, la vanille, bien présente, est accompagnée de notes épicées et de subtiles notes fumées. Avis: Le fumée est très léger mais c'est une bière très agréable à boire et bien faite.

3.6 Dark brown with a tall, foamy head that lingers. Aroma of plums, smoke and vanilla. Taste is mildly roasted bitter with the smoked character becoming more dominant at the finish. Medium bodied, slight stickiness, moderate to mild carbonation. Good.

4.1 Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Black body with a beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of chocolate ice-cream, liquorice and rum-soaked raisins. Flavour of Dr Pepper, oak, vanilla and copper. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Really interesting.

3.5 Bottle from the 2020 Manchester Beer Festival. Brown pour with a beige head. Smoke, toffee,caramel nose. Sweet smoky taste, whisper of orchard fruit. Nice.

3.7 Bottle @ DØE tasting. Dark brown to black w a light brown head. Aroma medium malty (caramel, light smoke, light sour, light vanilla). Flavor medium sweet, light vanilla, light smoky and sour, ending dry. Medium body,average carbonated.

3.9 Bottle from Det Bette Ølhus. Black with a slightly fizzy but big brown head. Aroma is dominated by the roasted malt. Dark chocolate, smoke, coffee and a touch of vanilla. Taste is a lot more smokewith a nice complexity and good balance. Very tasty beer without the big ABV

2.9 A very well brewed stout. Don't notice the vanilla though you do notice the smoked element. A good beer just not my goto style.

3.8 Bottle. Moderate dark bitter chocolate for the malt, light to moderate resin for the hops, faint dough for the yeast, with charcoal and milk in the background. Head is small, fizzy turning wispy, tan, with slippery lacing and good legs, and diminishes to a small ring. Color is clear very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, watery, with a fizzy carbonation and very dry and a bit chalky finish. Nice charcoal-y Foreign Stout with a big bitter and dry bite at the end.

3.7 Nicely balanced beer. Good bitterness from the roast. All around clean and enjoyable beer. The vanilla and smoke are mostly overpowered by the hop bitterness though, yet add a nice touch. Online belgian beer factory
