De Dolle Oerbier

De Dolle Oerbier

Oerbier means original, from the spring. This beer has been brewed in small scale (5 gallons). Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. At the brewery we have excellent cellars which have a constant temperature of 8°C and allow Oerbier to age at its best. After a couple of years Oerbier tastes like it should have been blended with wine … Oerbier has been refermented in the bottle and contains a layer of yeast, having vitamins B. NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning for the 7.5 vol. alcohol content. The little person on the glasses is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. The artwork on the poster is a wallpainting found in Spain, (Altamira) and is considered by art lovers as being the best prehistoric art work (30,000 years BC). On the other hand we have Oerbier started in 1980, going on with the tradition. 4.7 Fantastic
4.5 330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours a reddish-brown with a moderate sized off white to beige head with lots of staying power. Aroma has a deep malt and yeast character which includes a nice fruitiness that compliments. Taste has a great depth and complexity to it being malty, spice, toffee, red wine, dark fruits, cherry, liquorice, bitter and boozy finish. Medium to full bodied, smooth, slightly syrupy, fine carbonation. Stunning, one of the best beers I have ever had.
4.1 33cl bottle from beer shop, drinking it on 29/06/2021 BB Dec 2022 according to cap. Pours full brown with some off white foam on top. Deep aroma of dried fruits, malt, caramel, a bit winey and boozy. Taste is pretty rich and warm, very easy to love with a good sweetness but also complexity to it, malt, caramel, plum, grapes, wine, cherries, candi sugar, good sourness.. Nice warmth from the 9% abv. Medium to full body and kind of creamy and round mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Wonderful taste and i want to try it again soon.
3.7 Old rating from 2016 - 330ml bottle brought back from from the brewery on my Belgium road trip. It pours red / brown with a white head. Aromas & tastes of apple, berries, lemon, nuts, caramel, grain, earth, pine, liquorice, spice & malt. Medium body. Sweet slightly alcohol finish
5.0 Looks: brown, hazy, high tan head. Aroma: hazel nut, caramel, chocolate, yeast, prune. Taste: bitter sweet. Pearly. Vineous.
3.9 De Dolle Oerbier. Bottle from BIAB drunk in Night City partying with Kerry from Samurai. Medium brown, nice looking moderate head, nose of malty sour and some yeasty notes. Flavor: wow, complex tart Belgian with layers of caramel, biscuit, lemon, and yeast esters. Earthy hops on the finish blending with the tartness. Great to have a 9 percenter this well balanced, it's not too sweet at all. Excellent! 7/4/7/4/17
3.6 Fles 33cl thuis. Donker fruit, lichte zuren, caramel, kers, bes, pruim, tonen van port, zoeten, vrij droog, leer, licht voor 9%. (14-2-2021).
3.5 11.5 ounce bottle into a stem glass at the Winking Lizard in Copley, Ohio. Smells sweet Dark brown with fluffy off white head. Taste sweet. Some malty notes. Smooth and alcohol is well hidden for 9 percent. Tart, wine aftertaste. Interesting beer. Cheers!
4.5 33 cl bottle. nice looking very dar amber color with big head. Smell of hops, malts, and fruits perfectly balanced. Delightfull taste, omg what a good beer. maybe a little tip overly sweet, like 10% less would be perfect, but this beer is VERY CLOSE to perfect for me. Fantastic!
3.8 (bottle 0,33l) Overall: Complex with interesting sourness. Aroma: Fruity, sour, leather, some dark malts, light chocolate, some herbal. Appearance: Hazy brown, red hues. Medium, beige head. Taste: Medium fruity sour, medium sweet, dried fruits, cherries, wine-like, dark malts, light chocolate. Palate: Medium-full body. Light sticky texture. Warm, light astringent finish.
3.3 330 ml bottle, best before April 2019. Murky dark brown, big fluffy head. Dried fruits (dates, figs, raisins), dark sugar and caramel, acidic citrus notes and some heavy red wine notes. Malty sweetness, some sourness, some dry bitterness. Full to medium bodied, oily texture, lively carbonated, dry acidic boozy malty finish. Something not optimal here. Probably has already past its date or was not handled ideally. The slight sourness should be not in here.
3.8 From a bottle 6 months before expiration. Pours dark brown with a huge off white head, a little too huge even. Hard to describe the nose but it’s complex, malty, a little sweet. Medium body, port, malt, hops... Very nice beer that I will certainly try again.
4.1 Bottle - pours dark brown tan head - nose/taste of candy sugar, sweet cane sugar, bubblegum, slight maple. Full bodied
3.9 Very nice dark beer. Fruity, sweet, a little sour, hints of wine. Nice mouthfeel. Impressive beer one to buy again. Re rated. Still good. But there are better strong darks.
3.8 APARÊNCIA marrom escuro, turvo. creme bege de boa formação e longa persistência. AROMA figos, frutas escuras, morango, tâmara e toffee. SABOR segue o aroma com toques de cravo. SENSAÇÃO Corpo médio-alto e carbonatação moderada.
3.4 This beer is 8 months before expiration, but it has clearly been handled less than ideally. Very carbonated, a little stale, bordering on gushing. If it were fresh and lively the dark candi sugar I’m sure would shine through beautifully. Online beerwulf
5.0 Previous review, for a young one at La Caníbal, Madrid (Sep 13, 2020): A brownish ruby pour with a tan head. Aroma is red wine, saccharin, vanilla, milk chocolate, red berries. Taste is dry, with a rather dense mouthfeel. Medium-lasting. Normal beer, deserving a 3/5. Second review, for the (so far) oldest ale I've had in my life (from 1987, tasted in Kulminator, Antwerp, Aug 30, 2021): A clean, glossy, dark cherry red pour boasting a thick, beautiful and long-lasting bone-colored impressive (for a 34 year-old beer) head. When it comes to aroma, you'd say this is an old Rioja red wine, something that also occurred to me with a bottle of 2014 3F Framboos, but seldom else. So here we have dry leaves, withering roses, damp earth, liqueur-soaked berries, goji berries, redcurrant, vanilla, raspberry and strawberry jams... It still retains carbonation, believe it or not. Sour, but not tart; slow-moving through the palate even though it's medium-bodied, thanks to the silky texture. Bitterless, medium to long-lingering finish, with an aftertaste of strawberry jam and an endless parade of berries. Boy, did this beer improve over time. A well earned 5/5 (and my appreciation to Leen and Dirk at Kulminator for making this possible.)
4.5 Pours a hazy brown and with a slightly orange tint. Smells yeasty and with a dark fruit smell, brown bread, crust, a lot of malts. Taste is full, fruity dark malts with a light sweetness, complex with prunes, grape and wine barrel. A very yeasty beer with a full body and long aftertaste, nice sparkle in the body for a rich and creamy texture. The head is thin but it seems to last forever. A lot of character in this rich classic Belgian ale.
4.0 Shared with my bro on a surprise visit after they passed by for a quick touring of the city, a nice strong Belgian ale, the way anybody should make it.
4.2 Mousse épaisse qui se délite lentement. Goût de malt, avec une douceur et une légère acidité en fin de bouche. Une bière belge de référence, avec le goût typique d'une strong dark ale. Délicieux, bien qu'un peu lourd.
3.4 From the 330 ml. bottle. An attractive dark brown pour with a fading fading tan head.Decent aroma of molasses, caramel, and basically a good malt sensation. Maybe raisins. Medium body. The flavor is malt forward. Overwhelmed with a malt sweetness and a kind of cardboard thing.
S: Zoet. Gedroogd fruit, karamel en een beetje kandij. Alcoholwarmte. M: Volmondig met medium carbonatie.
3.9 Copenhagen 21/2 2020. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Little happy yellow doll holding a staff and a mug of beer on red background on the label. Very gushy upon opening. Pours opaque dark brown with a very big off-white head. Very bubbly. Leaves a 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing. Aroma is intense, sweet and yeasty. Brown sugar, caramel, tobacco with hints of licorice. Humid basement. Light sourish and sharp notes. Medium carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is intense and has a strong sweetness. Followed by a light sourness. Aftertaste is sweet but with a notable bitter undercurrent. Semi-dry finish. A very solid “Original” Belgian with enough flavor and aroma to hide a substantial ABV.
4.2 Pours dark brown with big tan head that leaves lacing behind. Medium body and carbonation. Well balanced malts make it so smooth to drink. Basement aroma is toned down. Perfect balance of sweet and bitter. One of best Belgians i drank.

3.7 Decent brown a little overrated here good not amasing but good
4.0 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a very dark hazy brown colour with a red glow and a huge throthy beige head. Aromas of roasted malts, caramel, molasses, dry dark fruits, brown bread, brown sugar tobacco, liquorice and some vinous notes. Taste is very similar to the aroma with some warming alcohol. Full flavoured with an oily mouthfeel. Medium bodied with a very slight tart finish. Well balanced. Very nice sipper.
4.0 Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Santa Clara, CA. Aroma is raisins, raisin bread, floral, musty yeast. Taste is fruity malts then dry floral bitterness. Very unique floral bitterness and dry yeast.
