De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Heritage (2011- 2014)

De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Heritage (2011- 2014)

Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well. Note: Cognac and/or Burgundy Barrels.

3.9 2013 Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Heavy rich caramel and toasted malt, dates and figs, light hop bitterness and light alcohol, and a medium sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

4.0 Fuld smag af malte i den mørke ende, men med en blomme og sødme i den også. God øl.
4.8 Fles 75cl thuis. Heritage 2013. Rozijn, whiskytonen pruim, drogig, zoet, gebrande mout, caramel, zacht, goede balans. (5-2015).

3.9 On tap pours out copper amber topped with a sand head. Nose is wood pit fruit notes some and a rich malt. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts pit fruit notes and a oak barrel kick.
4.9 In my top 5 all-time beers. I love the taste, aroma, coloring. I’m a big Belgian Ale fan.
4.3 Appearance: Pours hazy dark brown with creamy off-white head, with phat lacing. 5/5 Aroma: Heavy licorice, wood, dried plums, dark berries, dates, prunes and vanilla, moderate malts and caramel, with a slight touch of herbs and spice. 8/10 Taste: Lots of licorice, vanilla, dark fruits and woody notes, with toasted malt, caramel, sour molasses and some hints of herbs and spice. Quite vinous, pleasant sweetness and enough sourness, little bitterness, alcohol was perfectly hidden. Finish is fruity, vinous and spicy. 9/10 Mouthfeel: Oily, creamy and smooth, medium bodied, carbonation is moderate. 5/5 Overall: More vinous feel than the base quadrupel, with less roasty flavor but more sourness and woodiness. A unique quadrupel whatever, also rather sophisticated. 16/20
4.5 Brown, red hue colour, off-white head. Dark fruits and barrels, sweet malty joy; cherries, figs and vanilla. Soft velvety mouthfeel.
4.1 Taps opaque dark mahogany with a thick and fine-bubbled beige head. Aroma delivers tart dark fruit and a little toasted malt. Flavor adds cognac, wood, and sweet dark fruit, especially cherry, to the mix. Mouthfeel presents firm, smooth body and jazzy fizz.

4.4 2014 bottle at beerbistro, number 14298. Super cool wooden box. Pours a warm brown with ruby notes with a finely bubbled tan head. Huge aroma of oak, cherries, malty goodness, some deep red wine notes, some plum and toffee, molasses. Tastes of cherries, molasses, plums, toffee, lingering oak flavour. Fantastic.
Degelijk bier.
3.8 Rami Rami is drinking a Straffe Hendrik Heritage (2014) by De Halve Maan at Saska Kępa Suszone owoce, dziegiec, krmel, fajne rzeczy
4.0 Copenhagen 10/9 2017. 75 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik in Vanløse. The characteristic grumpy Half Moon on the label. The 2014-edition. Pours very dark brown with a reddish hue and off-white head. Settles as creamy layer covering the surface of the beer. Very moderate lacing. Aroma is strong and vinous. Sweet dark fruits, alcohol and a whiff of humid basement. Medium carbonation and thick oily palate. Despite it's heavy sweetness the flavor feels quite well balanced. Heavy sweet vinous quality nicely balanced by strong spicy bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a bitter undertone lurking. Fine Belgian take on the Barrel Aged concept with a solid kick and a cornucopia of aroma and taste.
4.0 Donker roodbruin bier met crèmekleurige schuimkraag. Geur: hout, licht zuurtje, karamel, wat fruitig, rozijnen. Complex. Smaak: alcoholisch, zoet, rood fruit, wat gedroogd fruit. Volmondig. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: bitterzoet, warm alcoholisch. Lekker!
4.2 from Au Grain d’Orge, Neuchâtel (2012) - hazy dark brown beer with a little beige foam left; light peated with notes of prunes and molasses; low carbonation; sweet and thick, full-bodied; long woody finish of molasses, black cherries and whisky
3.8 It pours hazy deep brown with an off white head. The aroma has brown sugar, ripe fruits, brown sugar, Abbey yeast and some oak. It has a medium full body with a very generous amount of carbonation. The taste has brown sugar super heavy, toffee, alcohol, mild spice and some oak with lingering vanilla. Solid.
3.6 RBSG Boise @PreFunk Cloudy brown with a small off-white head. Dark fruit, caramel and chocolate Very good
4.1 2013 heritage pours deep chestnut color, tan head. Aroma is fig, raisin, licorice, chocolate, dark fruit, some barrel character (I guess cognac), Belgian spices. Flavor is dark fruit, chocolate, fig, oak, Belgian spices, oak, sweet fruit, spot of strawberry almost, maybe cherry. Really pleasant, and well made. Great.
3.9 Bardzo fajny Belg, naprawdę ułożony, fajna beczka, wszystko na miejscu, polecam
4.5 Bottle, 750 ml, from one of the bottle shops in Zagreb. Shared with rest of the tasting crew. Pours brown with medium sized beige head. Chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, dried fruit, wood, slightly sourish vinous. Moderate sweetness, medium to full bodied. Smooth. This was a 2013 vintage, seems that 4 years in cellar did good.
4.1 Cotteridge #3: 20th May 2017. Cheers Dan (The Osprey) for this beauty. Deep, dark brown body, tanned topping. Nose had some caramel like sweetness and sour dark fruits too. Taste is also caramel sweet, less fruity sourness, more woody and sweeter fruits flavour wise. Liked it. Shared a 2012 version on 20th Aug 2019, it's a lovely beer, original rate still correct, had more this time around too!
4.7 0.75l bottle, vintage 2015. Very dark ruby body with a thick light brown head. Oak aging becomes obvious after the first smell in the form of wood, vinegar and white wine followed by some orange zest, sour cherries and raisins. Taste of caramel, orange zest, white wine, lemon zest, vinegar, dates, pepper and floral hops. Wow, this is amazing.
