De Kazematten Grotten Santé

De Kazematten Grotten Santé

The Grottenbier was created by one of the greatest Belgian brewers, Pierre Celis. The aim of Grottenbier is to see what the influence of a constant low temperature, such as in a cave, does to the evolution of a beer taste. In 2002, Pierre sold the beer (name and recipe) to Brouwerij St. Bernardus, where it has been commercialized for the last ten years. When De Kazematten became a possibility, St. Bernardus immediately saw a new home for the Grottenbier. The dream of Pierre became reality. The cooperation with the marl caves of Valkenburg and Kanne will continue in the future as well. In these marl caves you can experience what the low temperature do with the maturisation process of the Grotten Santé. Like the Grottenbier has matured there for the past 10 years, we will do the same with the Grotten Santé.

2.5 0,3 liter bottle. It's an ok beer, but not the one that will return in my fridge.
3.4 Bottle from Beermerchants.com. Dark pour with good head. Some yeast, burnt toast, forest fruits, sweetness in finish.
3.3 Very dark brown ale with a modest head. Aromas of bananas, milk chocolate, cream. Subtle flavours in the taste. Quite a neutral taste. Some chocolate and roastedness, but also fresh notes of sourness and citric fruits. Hops. Hints of meat and some pepper. Mushrooms? and earthy notes. Quite complex, but lacks a bit of body. Quite nice though.
3.7 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours dark brown with a thin, cream-coloured head. Aromas of dried fruits, yeast esters, caramel. Taste is light sweet, light spicy. Clean finish.
3.5 God og velsmagende øl. Tilpas sødme og bitterhed. Flot udseende. Indbydende aroma,
3.2 33 cl. Dark brown color, yellowish foam. Aroma and taste: caramel, butterscotch, light spice, cardamom, coriander, a little bitter, a bit wine, not bad.
3.9 Excellent Belgian beer Almost clear dark with a fine head. Ok lacing Pleasant intensity in the aroma Balanced sweetness for a beer like this Also a fine carbonation level. Easy to drink Dried fruits, some yeast, toffee and some spices in the flavor [Bottle at ORB in Darlington, England] Brewery #2112
3.6 Hazy reddish brown, decent beige head. Aroma: fruit jam, dried fruit, dark malts. Light to medium body. Taste: relatively dry, fruity, toffee, caramel, light spiciness. Light to medium bitterness. I can't say it's bad.
Interesante.
3.1 Bottle from Dranken Geers. Very dark brown beer with a large off white head which dissipates to thin. Nose is black grape, fig, prune, clove, winter spice, fruity. Taste is black grape juice, fig, slight slightly ripe fruit, bitter, sherbert, fragrant black tea, little watery.
3.7 Flesje gedronken tijdens feest.
2.6 Bruin, kandij, geroosterde mout.
3.2 33 cl bottle bb 03/03/2017. Slight gusher pours amber with a lively body and a huge topping of foam that slowly settles to a wispy cobweb topping. Aroma is toffee, bread, oxidized fruit, sourish orange and toasted nut. Flavor has the same components, plus orange baby aspirin and bitter citrus pith combining for a dry-leaning finish. Medium mouthfeel with smooth medium carbonation.
2.7 Big, almost creamy but fast collapsing beige head over a dar copper body. Aroma is ripe banana, caramel, some cloves. Mild notes of DMS do not help. Taste is very sweet: caramel, ripe fruits (banana again) and mild herbal notes at the end. Medium dry and hoppy finish. Medium body, soft to flat carbonation, watery texture.

3.2 Copenhagen 19/8 2018. 33 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Vanløse. Drawing of a entrance to a Castello on the label. Pours hazy dark brown with big, bubbly off-white head. Settles as thin, frothy layer of foam. Crawling up the side of the glass. Moderate lacing. Aroma is strong sweet and spicy. Fermented dark fruits. Prunes, raisins and dades. Caramelly sweetness intermingling with humid, basement. Medium carbonation. Thin yet lively prickly texture. Flavor is medium intense with medium strong sweetness followed by slightly stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and a little rough. Spicy and dry finish. A little thin and slightly unbalanced Belgian.
Daarna smaakt ie vooral erg veilig. Ik had op wat meer spanning gehoopt.
