De Koninck Bolleke / APA / Antwaarpse Pale Ale / De Koninck

Bottle: Filtered; Tap (in Antwerp): Filtered
Sold as Bolleke, or APA, or Antwaarpse Pale Ale, or simply De Koninck
Slightly malty with a note of caramel. Slightly hoppy and a hint of cinnamon. This is the taste of Antwerp: from its rough docks to packed outdoor cafés, city bikes and long summer nights by the river Scheldt. Antwerp in a bottle! In Antwerp dialect, just order a “Bolleke Keuning”. (The nickname Bolleke comes from the shape of the glass.) And since we all like to joke around in Antwerp, we added the name “Antwaarpse Pale Ale” to the label. It refers to a classic Pale Ale, but we added a touch of Antwerp. Best of all, you never have to look far in Antwerp for a freshly pulled Bolleke. This Antwerp icon can be found at virtually every indoor and outdoor café.

4.2 Lekker Antwerps bier. Lekkere nasmaak. Niet bitter
4.6 Beer from my hometown. I had this on multiple occasions. This is one of my favourite normal / regular beers. This is easy to drink and has more taste then pilseners or lagers.
3.2 Typical amber beer, with generous off-white head, retaining very well. Rather faint aroma. Taste moderate bitter. Well-known Belgian amber beer; traditional but not very special.
3.8 Lovely clear bronze appearance and poured with a small head.Malty medium body.Nothing outstanding just a pleasant mid range beer. Nothing wrong with that.
3.5 A super clear crisp beer. The amber malt body is great, it’s just a little overbalanced by some astringency, which is mild, but there. Gollem on the water ams (3,5 july 2021) Again at gollem oovertome. Same feelings as ^
Licht kruidig.
4.0 Deep copper colour, with rich malty fruity aroma. Light sweet malty fruity and spicy taste with raisins brown sugar and toffee notes. Great beer from Antwerp..
2.4 Het is een veredelde pils
3.3 There isn’t much to this Beer but it will showcase what the saaz hop is capable of while working alongside sweet malts. Notes of earth and spice work alongside light malts, caramel, herbal activity and a touch of berries. Try drinking it from a Pilsner glass for a higher level of quality, unless in Antwerp, then use a goblet for the sake of culture.
2.9 légère. caramélisée. peu forte.
3.2 Bottiglia.
3.2 330ml bottle and my first Belgian Ale. Pours slightly cloudy copper in colour with a small white head with lots of retention and lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, grass, caramel and yeast. Taste is caramel malts, grain, a slight dark fruit note. Carbonation starts moderately high before easing but is a little off-puting. Body is light to medium and there is a mild bitterness in the finish. Interesting beer which I quite enjoyed without being wowed. I get the impression this is a lighter entry level beer to the style and in that sense it works.
3.3 Bottle tasted A clear dark amber/copper color beer with a medium white dense head. Orange flowers and some vanilla to the nose. A bright soft malt flavour. Stone fruits and grapes with a little bitterness. Orange flowers, honey, some spices and nori are also tasted. The beer has a medium body with a smooth carbonation letting the biscuit malt flavour and the bitterness shine in aftertaste. Overall a nice session beer. Malty balance although bitterness is still noticeable.
3.1 Birra ambrata, limpida. Note di frutta secca e leggero sapore metallico. Finale amaro. Piacevole ma niente di speciale.
3.4 Historical tick which I am adding as a rate so that I can see the impact it has on my stats. 500 Beers To Try Before You Die. Had a few times especially as I had not realised it had been rebadged back in the day. Bottle and also tap at Lowlander.
4.4 Imagine yourself on a longboat sailing west of the Isle of Holdenhurst. The sun is weak but comforting as the salt in the air rests a touch of thirst on your tongue. You remember you have a bottle of ale tucked away in your trusty satchel. You open it, you drink it, you smile. This is that ale.
3.3 #MJ500 #200: 0.33 l bottle from 'drankgigant.de', best before December 2020. Clear, deep amber wirh a medium large, foamy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly yeasty-spicy and a little fruity aroma of caramel, clove, some raisins and a touch of toasted nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, quite yeasty-spicy and a little fruity taste of caramel, clove, toasted nuts and some raisins, followed by a short, gently bitter, quite yeasty-spicy finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant beer, quite aromatic but didn't expect it to be so yeast-forward.
3.9 This is a really nice fairly low abv beer from antwerp. Malty and slightly sweet. Easy drinking and one i will re buy.
3.0 Flot rav farve, fast og fin skumkappe. Behagelig carbonering til typen 👍 let metallisk smag.
3.8 0.25 bottle C: copper N: caramel, malt, candied sugar P: malty, lots of caramel, toffee, some red berries, yeast, spices.
3.1 Copenhagen 14/2 2020. 25 cl bottle from Ølhandleren in Give (web-shop). As “Bolleke De Koninck”. Red label with small drawing of a cityscape with a bike in front. Pours clear dark amber with a medium-sized white head. Stable and fluffy. Covers the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing. Aroma is medium-intense, sweet and little metallic. Caramel, toffee. Light notes brown sugar. A bit metallic. Like sniffing a empty beer can. Light carbonation. Thin, oily, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by a more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a light bitter undercurrent. Lingers for a bit. Ok Belgian amber ale. Not terrible exciting - and I could do without the metallic touch.
3.1 250ml bottle pours dark amber with off-white lacing. Aromas of malt, brown sugar and yeast. Tastes of dark cherry, caramel malt, molasses, orange rind and spices. Light bodied with low carbonation. Great dark fruit background and plenty of malt, but lacking the complexity of similar high alc vol dark beers.
