De Leite Cuvée Jeun'homme

Cuvee Jeune Homme is an oak-aged bitter beer. Originally it had a slight citrus-bitterness due to its 4 hops and the subsequent dry hopping. It is acidified while it ripens for 4 months in oak wine casks. The daring bitter-sour combination is moderated by this ripening process and as a consequence it is a very pleasant drinking beer.


Ingredients: water, barley malt, sugar, hops, yeast. Re-fermented in bottle.

3.8 Bottle from LCBO. Pours a nice fine carbonation with a hazy medium amber coat and a dense creamy off-white head. Both the oak barrel and the sour impart a wine like aspect. Layers of tart fruit and lemon, and some biscuity grain and bread yeast. Nice stuff!
3.8 Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a murky beige, with a large off white head. Aroma is funky, tart, acidic. Stone fruit, lemon, earthy wood, light vinous. Mouth feel is lively, with a very active carb. Finish is medium tart, more fruit, semi sweet/earthy barrel rounds it out.
4.0 Pale golden pour. Thin head. Lovely tart acetic nose. Cherry, peach and some soft tartness. Light oak along with a bit of grass and some medium bodied malt. Really lovely beer. Sort of a golden/Flemish red hybrid.
3.1 Citrus hoppy aroma. Pours a golden-orange w slight frothy head. Sour fruity flavor dominates this juicy bitter beer. Not what I was expecting at all. Goes ok w my burger but wouldn’t buy it again.
3.6 Bottle courtesy of Mortlach, thanks. In Rome at So Good. Cloudy golden pour with a medium white foam. Nose: sweet vinous, sour leather led beer. Mouth: crazy carbo, a bit citric, then goes better with a charming citric and herbal character which develops.
4.1 Bottle shared @So Good (Rome) with daniele and ippopotamo36. Dorata torbida, schiuma bianca media. Al naso pasta lievita, stalla, note vinose, di frutta gialla, leggero acetico, botte di vino. In bocca è acida media, vinosa, rotonda e di discreta complessità. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Ottima.
3.9 Fruity apples and vinegar tart nose, sweet malt, with grapes and apples, oaky vanilla with mildly toothy sour apple/vinegar. Very nice sour, typical of the Belgian neighbourhood.
3.5 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a cloudy orange colour with modest-sized whiteish head. Aroma is funky and sour with sweet fruitiness, barrel and vinous character. Flavour has tart vinegar, vinous character, apple, barrel and grains. Average plus body. Nice.
3.5 It pours murky straw colored with amber highlights; the head is off white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: lemon juice, apricot candy, toasted wheat, barnyard funk, oats, cracker. The taste is medium sour that finishes lightly bitter. The palate is medium-bodied, has medium carbonation, and a medium finish. Overall, pleasantly sour but not much to speak about.
3.4 Golden blonde with a slight crackling and a nice collar, laces. Sour and acidic aromas, fruity of apple, white grape, Lambic and wood. The taste is sour, tart and wooded, astringent also. Notes of vinegar, white wine, verjus, cider with a roundness and biscuit. Bitter of citrus. Stay on acidity with rancid notes of Lambic and wood.
4.0 Robe blonde, fine mousse peu persistante. Nez sur les fruits jaunes, les groseilles vertes, une touche acidulée, levure, pointe boisée, belle complexité. Bouche fraîche et équilibrée, fruitée et harmonieuse, tendue et très fraîche. Très belle bière tout en tension.
3.5 Bière sour qui n'est pas ma préférence. Cela dit le coté aigre bien que dominant passe quand même, la bière est légère.
1.5 Prima bier voor als je niet van geuze houdt maar toch geuze-achtig bier wilt proberen. Qua geur aroma ruik ik wat dettolachtigs. Licht zurig bier met smaak van grenny appel.

2.7 Ce qu'il y a de bien avec les sour, c'est que je peux faire de courtes critiques. A part de très rares exceptions, la complexité n'est pas au rendez-vous... Il en est de même avec ce jeun'homme qui a pourtant 4 houblons, un houblonnage à cru et qui est passé 4 mois en barrique de chêne. Mais 4 sortes de houblon et un houblonnage à cru est-il nécessaire avec une acidité qui emporte tout sur son passage. Car en définitif, en bouche nous avons cette acidité alliée à des arômes de pomme et de fut. Simple (trop ?) mais efficace pour qui aime les sour.

3.3 Bottle @ Lisbeer. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of tart funky Brett, citrus, oak, slight acetone, herbal hops and vinegar. Taste of Green Apples, vinegar, oak, funky Brett, slight acetone and sweet pear.
3.1 Lichtbruin bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is fris zoetzuur met iets van appel, sinaasappel en mango. Best een aardig licht zuur bier.
3.8 Botelski úti í Svínoy. Hazy orange, small white head. NIce sour malty woody aroma, quite pleasant indeed. Flavour: sour, malty woody notes, yeast, some fruit. Lovely!

2.4 330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Sentrum, Tromsø. Off-white, bubbly head leaving lacing rings on the glass. Cloudy orange coloured body. Restrained wood and yeasty fruitiness on the nose. Farmyard, yeast, and tart ripe lemon to the taste profile. Mid-dry fruity tartness to the ending. Medium bodied. Sorry, not for me. (Tromsø 20.06.2018).
4.1 Helder gele kleur met dikke witte schuimkraag. Geur is zurig en tegelijk ook zoet, cornflakes en granig. Smaak is sterk zurig, eerder azijn, nadien eerder zoet, cornflakes en granig. Zeer lekker.
4.0 Аромат умеренный не резкий, весьма добротно припорошен квашеностью яблок. Цвет на удивление красивый и приятный, бархатисто ярко-желто-мутный. Тончайшая белая пена. Вкус сильно кислый, ощущаются яблоки и сливы, немного уксусно-лимонной кислоты а также разнообразных кислых ранних ягод. При послевкусие появляется четкий оттенок хлеба, дрожжей и солода. В целом отличный кислый эль. Топчик.

4.0 Poors golden- light ocre with decent head. Aroma and taste: light vanilla, distictly woody, lactic acid, some apple sourness. Aroma a bit musty, perhaps. Sourness is soft, some bitterness indeed. Tastes for an apple-sour rather subtle but with definately a more than average complexity. Very well balanced. I think this is excellent.
