3.711.2 oz. bottle at home (though I shared a different bottle in 2009/2010 and didn’t enter the notes). Pours a dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have some roasted malts, lots of chocolate, a splash of coffee, hint of anise, the body is very light for an imperial stout, thin mouth feel, flavor is still good.
3.233cl Bottle. First whiff is very chocolate and fudge forward with a light sweetness over any coffee or roast. Pour is a deep dark red, to brown, but well short of black. small-medium head that dissipates to a small film on top. Taste is immediately bitter with a dark chocolate note. Light in body but high in alcohol warming. This is weird. Like an imperial porter, but very light in body. overall, ok. I guess it is interesting from a historical aspect.
3.5330 ml bottle. Bottled 10th June 2011. From the brewery some years ago.
Black colour with a small frothy tan head.
Roasted malt, mild bitterness and some sweetness in the aroma. Airy.
The flavour is roasted malt, liquorice, salty liquorice, ashy dryness, mild sweetness and some medicinal notes. Fizzy. Super fizzy. The flavour is very nice but this over fizziness ruins the enjoyability.
3.7From a 33 cl bottle at Churchey DC. Pours black with a tan head. Roasted malt nose. Flavors of licorice and chicory. Bitter finish.
3.6The Beer Store, Southampton PA 11.2 ounce: Pours black with almost no head. Aroma is smokey malts, molasses, coffee, Taste is somewhat sweet. Body is really sticky and chewy. Minimal bitterness, but there a kind of smokey aftertaste to be had there. Some minimal hop bite. Mostly an avalanche of burnt molasses though. Alcohol is, of course, well-covered.
4.0Bottle from Berkeley Bowl West. Pours near black with a modest tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a rich chocolate and dark molasses flavor with a dry bitter finish.
3.2Bottle. Pours dark brown with no head. Smells of roasted nuts and coffee. Taste of sweet smokey malts. Not bad.
3.5Bottle. Completely flat. Aroma is smoke, caramel, brown sugar, buttered crackers. Good beer, goes down very easy. Full body, long sweet finish.
3.1"i wasn’t as impressed by this one as the others were. it came of as rather pedestrian for the price and/or abv. not bad at all, but also does nothing that stood out from the pack. light-medium bodied for an impy."
4.0may 2013 bottle. dark chesnut brown, some tan head. Aroma cheese leather wood, chocolate. Tastes soy, chocolate, tannic, slight lactic, slight sour, tart, wheaty, smooth roasts, and slight berries. Slight acidic palate. Really underrated here. I love these throwback porters/stouts.
4.1Oh boy...This is a friendly one! Dark pour with chocolate and the heavy alcohol is not that noticable... love ut
3.1A black body with a fast fading tan head. Aroma was of burnt malt, cola and chocolate malts. Flavor was sweet. Some coffee malts and a bit if burnt malt. Mild presence of alcohol. Light on the palate. Just okay.
2.9Bottle at home. Pours black, way over carbonated. Fizzy, sugar, sweet chocolate.
3.9Dark brown pour with lots of floaties and good tan head. Massive tobacco and chocolate and soy sauce. Big chewy body. Cocoa Porter finish. Hides the Abv. Very well.
2.7What a shame! Full disclosure - my bottle was 6 years old acquired via trade. Cannot attest to proper cellaring. That said..
Pours murky brown/black with tons of carbonation. Aroma is sour, rancid, diswater, dark/burnt coffee. Taste essentially is all of those notes with some faint milk chocolate. I wanted this one to be so much more! I would speculate that improper cellaring played a role.
3.3Had this 3 years ago so I’ve chilled out a bit since then, I should have slated this bastard. WORST gusher ever. Undid the cage, turned around to get a glass and boom, all over the ceiling, everywhere. Paid £10 for less than quarter of a bottle. Fucking joke. Thanks De Molen. What was left was 8 pints of foam and this little dribble, that I didn’t care for. Would never go near another after that. I’m a De Molen fan but grr
4.0Quite dry and strong stout, brewed according to a classic British recipy. Nice to drink.

4.2Bottle. Pours black color with beige head. Aroma is excellent, nose is full of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, berries. Just wow! Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and vanilla, also bit sour. Very nice beer in general.
4.5Bottle from De Molen shop. Almost black color with medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, notes of hops. Roasted taste with coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruits, light sourness. Roasty coffee bitter finish. Alcohol is evident, but not disturbing. Very tasty beer.
4.1Bottlr. Aroma sweet and fruity. Strawberry, plum, light grape. Barley. Very dark brown colour. Beige stable head. Taste is a little bit rough and sour. Otherwise there is warm alcohol, sweet fruits, roasted malt. Rather sweet, but decent roast bitterness. Finish is warm
4.4Bottled. Thanks to Cuso. One word: wow! Nice triple RIS. This time a nice sour aftertaste, not disturbing, but pleasant. Overall fantastic!
3.6Bottle. Black beer with a beige head. Smokey, tar, ashes and leather aroma. Sweet and malty flavour with tar and smokey notes.
3.4(draught) pours black in colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of heavy raisins and toffee, caramel, light dark chocolate, brown sugar and sugar icing. flavour is mostly the same, raisins, light toasted malts and dark chocolate, with a hint of alcohol, herbal hops and a light-bitter finish. heavy-bodied with soft carbonation.
3.5Tap at De Molen. Poured a deep mahogany with a big frothy tan head. The aroma is roasted malt, leading to a strong bitter flavour with lots of malt and liqourice on a surprisingly smooth palate. The finish is a little weak.
3.5RBESG. Draught at De Molen, Bodegraven. Black beer with a beige head. Roasted chocolate aroma, earthy, hay, cocoa, floral, herbal notes. Roasted chocolate flavor, hay, earthy, vinous, cocoa, tar, warming alcohol, ash. Nice but not crazy good.
3.52008. Its recommends to save for up to five years, so its past time to drink it. Aroma of chocolate cake and licorice. Taste is slightly sweet, alcohol, thin, not a long finish. Its probably too old for a fair rating.
3.6bottle, 2008 vintage, pour 5 days past best by date. black pour, chocolate, coffee, big roast in both flavor & aroma. a twinge of sourness starting to build. Still beer held up for a long time.
