A smoked Stout (Peated and Bamberger)

Bloed, Zweet & Tranen (Blood, Sweat & Tears) is not for those looking for something easy. Heavily smoked, loads of chocolate and roasted malts. Yet a beer you can still enjoy all evening long. Flavour indication: Smoke, chocolate, roasted malts.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt (Pils, Whisky, Chocolate, Caramel, Roasted), Sladek hops, top-fermenting yeast.

3.7 Bottle @ Friends/Dr. yeast. Appearance: pours clear dark brown with low off-white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, beech wood, peat, smoke, caramel, light tobacco, light earthy, nuts, light chocolate and grassy notes palette: strong smoked and medium malty aroma, light to average carbonation, medium to full body, medium to notable sweetness, balanced by a medium bitterness, average to long duration and an oily texture. Overall: excellent smoked ale
4.0 Bottle. Malty smoked aroma, chocolate, light coffee and caramel notes. Tastes the same as aroma, medium bitter, light sweet notes. Full body, malty smoked bitter sweet finish. Good.
3.9 330 ml bottle bought at HKBWEX in Mong Kok. Looks: Opaque Cola blackish brown colour; One-quarter finger head with residual soapy light beige foam which fades in 20 seconds; Fair sticky lacing with zero carbonation. Aroma: Very fragrant smoked dark malt which can be smelt a foot away, with very strong bacon, strong soot, caramel, light toffee, Cola, cream, light floral, sugar, earth, biscuits and light grass. Bacon delight! Taste: Medium sweet dark malt, with strong bacon, smoke, caramel, strong Cola, black coffee, floral, sugar, spices, strong earth, dry biscuits, lemon, close to strong bitter hops and grass. Body: Medium body. Dry and fairly slick palate. Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a solid background, a bit thin. Massive dose of bacon dominates with good bits of smoke in between. There is caramel and black coffee but no toffee or chocolate. Flowery with moderate sweetness, spicy very earthy with lemon to round. Meaty and yummy! Hoppiness: Floral, earth, and light grass in nose. Spices, floral, strong earth, lemon and grass in taste; Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting, mid to high astringent bitter-sweet dark malty finish. After Taste: Quite dry. Bacon earthy and bitter to mouth. Comments: Like Mooi & Meedogenloos (Beautiful & Ruthless), this one is instantly likeable because its body is much lighter than most Imperial Stouts. Loads of peaty bacon and earthy bitter hops make my favorite smoked stout. Highly recommended!
4.0 It's beer equivalent of "lapsang souchong" tea. Aroma is like not fresh socks, but this is cool feature, not defect. Taste is like good stout, nothing special but good.
3.7 Bottle. Moderate roasted and molasses for the malt, light herbs for the hops, light broth for the yeast, with smoke, toffee and raisin in the background. Head is small, frothy, light beige, with some slippery lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily, with a soft to lively carbonation and a dry finish. A Powerful Smoked beer with a lot of the base beer coming through.
4.0 The aroma is smoked, burnt rubber, iodine. One gets the feeling that Ardbeg whiskey is poured into a glass. Dark brown beer with foam that leaves pretty quickly. The taste is identical with the flavor. Tires, bitter coffee. Pretty soft and long finish
4.6 Keg at Craft Beer Calling, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Heavenly aroma of super peat. Like an amazing Islay Whisky. Wonderful smokey flavour. Just a touch too carbonated.
2.8 Not bad but it's one dimensional compared to many other de Molen beers. I usually like smoke but perhaps not as much in beer. still solid
4.5 Pours very dark brown, translucent, without much carbonation, a minimal beige head but still some spots of lacing. Aroma is deep smoke, bacon, ashes and smoked grains, oak and whiskey. Tastes light bitter, with strong burn caramel sweet-ish notes, bacon, smoked BBQ sauce, cocoa, wood and whiskey. Medium body, very nice slick mouthfeel, almost oily. Very rich in taste, flavours linger since the first sip. Excellent smoked stout!
3.5 Fles 33cl thuis. Flinke rooksmaak, whisky, turf, chocola, zoeten, hop (Sladek), caramel. Redelijk zacht. (2-2017).
4.2 (~noire, nez ∞-fumé-rôti (cendre, caoutchouc), bouche suave, ∞-fumée, cara brûlé, fin douce tourbée)
3.9 330ml bottle from The Grumpy Goat, Reading. Very dark brown colour with beige head. Big smoked dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, smoky bacon, big campfire, ash, coffee beans, ristretto, peat, liquorice, tobacco, light dried dark fruits, light caramel. Very nice smoked imp stout.
4.0 (595 napja palackozták) Semmi hab, fekete szín. Erősen füstös, enyhén aszalt gyümölcsös illat. Füstös, aszalt gyümölcsös ízek, a háttérben némi csokival és kakaóval. Közepesen testes, enyhén szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Nagyon finom, jó arányokkal operáló ital.
4.1 Bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. Brown-black with a beige head and a middling fizz. Smells of shoe leather, sweaty feet, smoked meat and chocolate. Tastes of bonfire smoke, chocolate, island whisky and a touch of sour berries with a light dusty bitterness. Slightly slimy mouthfeel. It's the sort of beer I love, but the rather dusty aftertaste drops it down a notch in my estimation. Still a great brew though.
3.5 Pours dark brown with a solid off-white head. The aroma is peat, caramel, licorice and dark fruit. The taste is clearly smoked, roasted malts, coffee and licorice. The finish is porter-like, sweetish, with herbal bitterness. Pleasant texture, medium-bodied and medium carbonation, too high for the style. A little alcohol at the finish. Solid.
3.8 Zapach średnio intensywny, wędzonka, szynka, torf, wędzona śliwka. Kolor ciemnobrunatny, mętne. Piana beżowa, średnio obfita, drobna, trwała, lekki lacing. W smaku umiarkowana słodycz, średnia pełnia, czekolada, wędzonka, śliwki, torf, paloność, kawa, popiół, lukrecja. Goryczka średnia, wysycenie niskie.
3.8 Beer #1 of 17 for each day of the 2018 Winter Olympics - One for A Country Participating in the Games: #1 - The Netherlands. Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, 90% opacity of oily black along with a thick rich brown coloured head that starts at about three centimetres and fades relatively quickly to just a top. Aroma of smoked malt, mushrooms, bacon, pork, light alcohol, pungent licorice and a deep bit of caramelised or perhaps burnt sugars. Medium-bodied; Deep smokey flavour at first with smoked malt, light mushrooms, a lot of smoked meats like pork, bacon, brisket and even some smoked salt along with some moderate amount of sugars, a little bit of earth all noticeable along with some sweetness near the end. Aftertaste is largely smoke-related with the meats, mushrooms and pure malt really coming through, all with a big smokey flavour and finish, but the sugars and licorice hit near the end which makes it more complex and well-rounded throughout. Overall, a nice smoked beer that shows a lot of meatiness, but a good sweetness, which couples to provide a nice balance and robust flavour that has a moderate complexity, but nice sweetness as well. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from West LakeView Liqours in Chicago, Illinois on 25-May-2016 for US$6,99 sampled just about two years later on 09-February-2018 during the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, [South] Korea. Date on Bottle: 22-May-2012 // Purchased: 25-May-2016 // Sampled: 09-February-2018
3.5 Copenhagen 3/2-2018. 33 cl bottle from Ørsted Vine. White label with a lot of text telling me that this is a Smoked, Stout-ish beer. Pours opaque dark brown with small beige head. Settles as thin patchy layer of foam. Very moderate lacing. Aroma is strong and smoky. Peat, tar, ashtray and a distinct bitterness. Soft carbonation and thick, soft, oily texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by medium bitterness. Aftertaste is smoky with a little bitterness. You do not need to use Blood, Sweat and Tears to get through this beer but you need to be able to enjoy some peaty smoke. Nice well balanced Smoke Beer.
3.4 A little strange aroma to me, smells like aspholt or some plastic. Black color, small off-white head. Medium bitterness and sweetness. Medium to full body, kind of lively in the mouth.
3.4 Barwa ciemny bursztyn, pana mała. Aromat mocno torfowy, trochę kakao, prażony słonecznik. W smaku lekko kawowy, wędzonka, trochę czekolady. Spoko pifko.
3.9 Bottle from Beerwulf online. Black beer with small head. Aroma of Islay whisky, peat and dark malts. Taste is smoked bacon, smoked peat, phenolic, dark malts and light liquorice. Medium bodied. Very good.
3.5 Aroma is dominated by huge smokiness with some roasted notes, some cocoa hints. Deep black in the glass with a thick tan head. Taste is semi sweet with some notes of smoked meat, chocolate hints with ashy background. It needs some body, but in the long run is really solid.
3.5 Butelka. Brakuje ciała, wędzonka silna, trochę jednowymiarowa, bardziej Bamberska, niz torfowa. Lekki sos sojowy. 3.5
3.9 Zwart bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is bitter, licht zoet en rokig met iets van gebrande mout en zwarte koffie. Omdat de rooksmaak niet overheerst is dit voor mij een erg goed bier.
3.4 Pours black with no noticeable head. Smells like smoke and canvas. Flavor is a sweet smoke (which I don't think exists). Not sure how I feel about this smoked Stout I've had other smoked beers that had a more Smoky flavor and not so sweet and I like the smokiness better.
4.2 Heerlijk biertje, thuis uit fles. Chocolade in aroma, ook in de smaak. Dit bier niet te koud drinken. Heerlijk.
3.7 Bottle. Black colour, brown reflexes, small head. Nose is lots of asphalt, burned rubber. Mouth is some ash, chocolate. Light bitterness, light sweetness. Soft carbonation. Good.
