De Molen Bommen & Granaten (Bombs & Grenades)

De Molen Bommen & Granaten (Bombs & Grenades)

There’s plenty of fruit like orange,
tangerine and sweet apples. It’s
powerful and full bodied but still easy
going. Although the name would suggest
otherwise, it’s our favourite
amongst the female clientele yet also
highly appreciated by the other sex.
Well hopped as always, but the
obvious alcohol and the massive malt
and fruit character restrict the hops to
the background, only to reveal itself in
the finish. Full bodied, notes of champagne.
Champagne mousse after pouring
in the glass. Grapes and a hint of
mandarin curacao in the aroma, together
with a hint of vin mousseux.
Malty sweet flavor, immensely full
bodied, with mandarine curacao and
vinous notes. Thick mouthfeel, just a
touch of yeast in the aftertaste. Huge
beer.

ABV on the label reduced from 15 to 11.9%. Recipe remains the same

3.9 Bottle. Clear dark orange with shades of red and an extremely short-lived white/beige head. Aroma of malts, oranges, dried fruit, caramel, hints of marzipan, mulled wine without its spices and just a whiff of alcohol. Taste of malts, dried fruits, caramel, oranges, figs, malt lozenges and brown sugar. Sure it is sweet but herbs and a moderate bitterness keep it in check. Medium Carbonation. Alcoholic warmth is present but not overwhelming. Very balanced. A really nice sipper.
4.1 03-12-30 Aromat bogaty słodowy, ciastka i biszkopt, przyprawy, lekko wędzone. Drobna piana, klarowne, herbaciany kolor. Smak słodki, z elementami goryczki alkoholu i melanoidyn.
0.0 Ar: apple, caramel, malt Ap: brown, foamy head T: fruity, med sweetness P: thick body
3.6 Aroma of fruits, caramel, bread, malt and some dried fruits. Amber with a off-white head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Medium to full body with average carbonation. Overall a nice Barley Wine, but it lacks a bit of complexity to be fantastic.
3.3 0.33 bottle @ Wiktor's Hazy red with almost no head. Aroma of fruits, cardboard, wood, marzipane. Taste is sweet, fruity, marzipan, candied berries, malts. Full, oily, soft. Finish is medium long and relatively sweet. Overall, not the best barley wine ever.
3.6 Both drunk 2021 2009 bottle: No head in a caramel coloured still body. Huge boozy aroma with stewed fruit & caramel. Full bodied, smooth, soft & clean. Sherry, oak, woody, sweet & stewed fruit tastes. 7,2,8,4,16 - 3.7 2018 bottle: Thin beige head left a collar on a clear reddish brown body. Medium bodied, tingly over the tongue with a sticky back. Berries, stewed fruit, jam & caramel tastes with a big boozy finish. 7,3,7,3,16 - 3.6
4.7 Appearance: hazy amber to ruby, medium head Aroma: candy sweet malt, alcoholic Taste: honey, champagne, alcohol, high sweetness and a little bitterness in the finish Mouthfeel: full body, long finish
3.6 Gift from my bro, one of my favorite style, yet, after tasting the nice tsarina, this one was pale in comparison. Taken while leveling my engineering skill on my Druid.
3.7 Butelka 330 ml, abv 11,9% (silent killer wchu), barley wine-ish. Aromaty suszonych owoców, takie zakręcone trochu. Marcepan? Niech będzie że słodowe i wytrawne, alkohol rozgrzewa.
1.7 Witte kop, ruby, geur van sinaasappelschil, smaak van wit fruit. Veel sediment.
4.0 Bottle. Somehow have never rated this - cooking a rabbit stew with it gives me a perfect opportunity. Pours a clear copper with a nice white head. Aroma is intense caramel, crystal malt, herbal notes and lots of prune, molasses, sherry. Lots of dried fruit. Big body, smooth and thick. Flavour is malty and rich, sweet and slightly boozy. Lots of caramel, molasses, and lots of dried fruit (perfect for a stew). Prune and fig especially, with lots of residual sweetness. Finish is boozy and warming, sweet. Whilst some of the BA version may be more interesting this is a very good standard barley wine.
3.1 Bouquet: Dried fruit, raisin, almond, cream, maltose, molasses, caramel, sherry. The aroma is very sweet, with a hint of non-oxidized sherry. English nutty and crystal malt aroma characteristics. Fruits have a high fatty aroma. Flavor: High sweetness in the mouth, with various complex Caramel malt textures, dominated by caramel, honey, toffee and maltose. Alcohol gives a warm sensation rather than a pungent burr. The wine is thick and smooth. Moderate bitterness with some Saaz herbs and slight earthy notes. The bitterness comes in part from the bran. Slightly astringent closure. Honey, cream, caramel, hazelnut, raisin taste. Not bad barley. No big problem

4.2 33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Coop Culemborg. Clear dark amber with an off-white head. Massive caramel and orange aroma. Sweet taste with a full sweet finish. Great thick but smooth body. Must have been an enormous grain bill to be able to end up with this massive beer. Excellent barleywine.
4.6 Botteled on: 28-01-2015 Best before: 28-01-2040 32°; 15,2% Po otwarciu lekko burzy się w szyjce. Aromat to złożoność zapachów dojrzałych i suszonych owoców: śliwki i daktyle, winogrona i rodzynki. Gładkie, płaskie, gęste i wyklejające usta. W samku głęboka słodowość i pełnia owocowej słodyczy, najbardziej przywodząca na myśl suszone daktyle. W tle nuty wiśni i fig. Całość dopełniona przyjemnie rozgrzewającą likierowością. Bardzo deserowe i degustacyne.
3.9 Aromat suszonych owoców, wymieszany z lekka nutą alkoholowa. Ale nie jest nieprzyjemna. Suszone figi, suszone morele, lekka nuta karmelowa. Nawet nuty ciasteczkowe. W smaku dużo bardziej owocowe. Jest wyraźna nuta suszonych owoców. Na końcu lekkie wiśnie. Alkohol wyczuwalny w postaci wyraźnej goryczki i lekkiego grzania w ustach. Jest tez lekko ściągające w odczuciu. Bardzo porządne barley wine.
3.6 From bottle. Almost clear dark copper color with beige head. Malty aroma, caramel, fruity - citrus and dark dried fruits, licorice, bready, some floral notes and some plastic notes too. Sweet taste. Medium almost oily body with soft to flat carbonation.
4.3 Intense caramel accompanied by a fruity apple notes reminiscent of the famous ‘’tire’’ apples of my childhood. The biscuit, red licorice and a powerful alcohol complement this complex olfactory. A small semi-creamy foam settles on a reddish amber liquid with many suspended yeast particles. Taste is caramelized, fruity and warm. Notes of apples, orange, red liquorice, black fruit on an intense caramel. The finish is slightly spicy, alcoholic and leaves a sweet fruity reminiscent of marmalade. The body is round, warm, velvety accompanied by a higher than average carbonation, making the beer less heavy and more drinkable. This Barley Wine has a complex and unusual fruity side with a solid caramelized base and a warmth of alcohol characteristic of the style. Absolutely tasty. Absolument savoureuse. 4.1 The aroma is sweet with citrus and floral notes of hops. Strong maltiness adds bready notes. Intense amber color, transparent with a good head of foam on the sides of the glass. Strong malt flavor, slight hop bitterness converts to malt sweetness. Dry aftertaste. The body is dense, the carbonation is small.
4.0 Always nice: caramel, dried fruits, boozy, sweet and a resinous touch. Full body.
3.8 Bouteille 330ml. Couleur acajou trouble, mousse beige foncée. Arôme de malt caramélisé, sucre d'orge, alcool, légèrement poussiéreux. Goût de malt caramélisé, alcool, sucré, amertume moyenne-faible, sucre d'orge. Carbonatation moyenne, corps dense.
3.4 330ml bottle. Clear copper with a thin ring of beige foam. Flavors are sweet cereals, barley sugar, resinous hops and alcohol with fruity, earthy and vegetal notes. Full body, soft carbonation, oily texture.
3.7 A : licorice, caramel, red fruits, figs, alcool App: clear dark copper close to brown with small white head. T /p: full body with med sweet finish. Soft carbonation O : Pretty good and quite smooth considering the ABv.
4.2 Bottle from Beer Republic. Vinous fruity flavours, sparkling white, some apple, cherry. Full body, malt, hints of vanilla, caramel. Warming, this is a really excellent beer from a great brewery.
4.0 Bottle at home, cellared for 1.5 years, I think this one’s was a gift from Kini, koszi! Pours copper with thin beige head. Nose is sweet notes of booze, nuts, bready malts, woody notes, super light smoke. Taste is also sweet, but not overwhelmingly, showing booze, light vanilla, wood, dried fruits and malts with just a tiny bit of bitternes on the palate. Medium bodied with soft carbo, nice sipper. Nicely balanced and well rounded.
4.5 Beautiful ruby pour with dense honeycomb head. Aroma is trad. Barley wine with caramel malt dominating. Flavour profile is also trad BW. With caramel, vanilla, alcohol warmth, malt in that order. The finish is long and warm. There is a subtle undervmcurrent of bitterness that never takes a lead role. Rather it stays in the background allowing the palate to steer clear of the clagginess a BW done poorly can descend into.
3.9 Bevuta in bottiglia. Birra dal bel colore ambrato. Buoni profumi. Ottima al palato. Da riprovare.
