De Molen Eiken Hel & Verdoemenis

De Molen Eiken Hel & Verdoemenis

Brewed with brown malts, an
English traditional specialty malt, we
created an Imperial Russian Stout that
has won prizes at festivals across
Europe from Sweden to Italy. It’s big,
black, roasted and complex. We are
convinced that not trying this ale will
be a mortal sin to your taste buds and
beer experience.
Oak chips have been put in 40 year
old cognac and then added to the beer.

5.0 Mocha, roasted malt and smoke rises in the nose and the expectation is steadily increasing. I tastes gently and surprised a bit of a fruity sweetness where prune and fig can be felt. Roasted malt tones with smoky nuances take over the taste buds, but no more than that there is scope to use strong mocha and dark bitter chocolate. Finally rounds it off with little English licorice and a light hoppy bitterness. This is an imperial stout that has everything your heart desires.
4.0 330ml bottle. Black color with beige head. Roasted malty aroma, chocolate, light coffee, caramel, wood, alcohol. Sweet and bitter taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation
4.1 Deep brown to black. Chocolate foam. Roasted malty aroma with nutty and chocolate notes. Oily texture. Sweet taste is good balanced by elegant raosted baley notes and some hop bitterness, can feel chocolate as well. Really good imperial stout.
3.7 Dark brown to black with small head. Aroma of dark chocolate and light coffee. Mouthfull roasty cereal with an alcoholic ending.
4.1 "if not for the out of control yeast which bubbled over and gave the beer major floatie issues even with a slow-ass gentle pour, this beer would have been epic. the aroma and flavor are simply fantastic! reminiscent, a little, of bottled NC Rasputin, but with more tar, a touch of dark fruit, licorice, and smoke. carbonation high, but the feel manages to still be big slick and oly. awesome beer i’d like to have kegged...the yeast issue was almost a turn-off."
3.9 Bona cervesa, és bastant equilibrada i gustosa. Buena cerveza, es bastante equilibrada y sabrosa.
3.6 W aromacie czuć ciemną czekoladę, lekkie nuty wanilii, cherry i delikatnie owoce (wiśnia, śliwka itp). Barwa to ciemny brąz przechodzący w lekką wiśnie. Piana bardzo niewielka, ale drobnopęcherzykowa i dobrze oblepia szkło. W smaku kawa i goryczka.
4.2 Smell of dark chocolate and light coffee, pours pitch black with little to no head, taste is rich dark chocolate thick and oily texture.
4.1 Imperial stout davvero speciale, con note vinose ampie e calde, intrecciate con cioccolato, caffé, malti tostati, un leggero tocco affumicato e di legno di quercia. Corpo denso e presenza alcolica ben bilanciata. Ottima e senza difetti!
4.4 750mL bottle, 2009 vintage, #63/153. Poured inky black with no head sticking around. The aroma picked up a blend of chocolates (skewed toward the sweeter side), vanilla, molasses, and honey, with complementary accents of oak and cognac.. great spicy cognac kick right on the back of the nose. The flavor found a little licorice to go with rich vinous notes, vanilla, and cocoa at the core.. wisps of smoke and charred oak laced throughout.. mostly sweet cognac and smoky cocoa on the long, belly-warming finish.. very tasty! Heavy-bodied with low carbonation.. coating and well-balanced.. awesome stuff!
4.1 Bottle at home. Pitch black - No head. High oak, nice wood aroma, ashes, whiskey, tarmac, chocolate, roasted, oily body, rather high sweetness, vanilla, light alcoholic. No carbonation at all. Very nice.
3.8 Bottle @ home … Bottled on 9 april 2009 bottle no 384/816 ...It pours pitch black with no head… wood, oak, cognac, roasted malt, strong coffee, dark fruits…. a bit flat no carbonation at all … it may have been fantastic if there had been some bobbles :) …
3.9 Bottle share thanks to Taylor. Pitch black. Minimal head. Nose of coffee and roast. Taste is slightly tart with dark coffee grains and a light astringency. Woody character adds a nice drying character.
3.7 Bottle at FoCo Stout Tasting 2013, courtesy of Armin. Thanks man! Pour is deep brown with a small brown head that quickly dissipated. Roasty, bourbon, caramelly, toffee, dark fruits, and chocolate in the aroma. Taste deep roast, light bread, dark fruits, cocoa, coffee, tangy, and grapey. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Not bad.
4.1 Bottle @ Armin’s palace, courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Woody, dark grape, plum, a bit spicy aroma. Goopy dark chocolate, brownie, pretty thick malty, vanilla, sweet dark fruity flavor. Nice one.
3.9 Pour out of 750 mL bottle, 2009 thanks to Markus! Thick black pour with no head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, nice oak, hints of earth, slight roast, nice vanilla, coconut, nice cognac notes, nice. Taste is a mix of cognac, earth, chocolate, roast, hints of vanilla, coconut, slight earthy notes, hints of spice, finishing sweet. Nice.
4.3 Dark brown liquid with chocolate brown head. Aroma is mostly bitter with alcohol, hops, roasted wood, roasted chocolate and some coffee. Taste is medium bitter at first then chocolate and cocoa. The roasted feel lasts long in the aftertaste.
3.9 33 cl bottle, huge thanks to Mathieu87 for finding this for me, 11/10/2013. Pours deep brown, practically black, light tan head forms a nice cushion on the surface before dying to haze, thin ring of lacing apparent around the glass. Aroma is bitter dark chocolate, acidic coffee and charred roast, touch of licorice and vanilla, with dry wood, subtle fruity cognac rounding out the finish. Taste is licorice, dark chocolate moderately sweet, toffee under dark fruity barrel notes, long roast finish, deeply bitter. Medium thick body, flavors remain sharp and focused. Perhaps not as dark, chewy and roasted as some of my favorite treatments, but quite nice all the same, really glad to have tried.
4.1 Underbar färg, svart med högt gräddigt skum som ligger kvar. Smaken är underbar, söt, rostad malt, kaffe, chocklad kanske lite ek? Balanserad ut till det yttersta!
4.0 Backlog... Bottle, pours black with creamy head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malts. Flavour is sweet and comlex with notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla.
3.8 Bottle@The Fiddler, The Hague. Foam: caramel, thin head. Colour: deep dark brown. Aroma: roasted malt, chocolate. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: crispy, alcoholic, good bitter finish with chocolate accent, low CO2. Overall: very good.
4.5 Bottle #97 shared with Alan, Alan, and Barry under the covered bridge downtown in VT, pours black with light head and lace, not much carbonation etiher. Notes of toffee, roasted malt, barrel, fig, cocoa, marshmallow, and light cognac. The fuller body is very smooth and silky with no bite at all from the booze. One of our favorites of the night, exceptional RIS from the Dutch Masters. Proost.
4.4 Bottle from trade a few years ago. I can’t remember who sent it to me but I am glad they did. It has been sitting quietly in the beer cellar waiting for me to enjoy. Pours a nice rich dark color with a huge tan head on it. Aroma of brandy, marshmellows, coffee and chocolate. Flavorful with hints of cocoa, coffee and malt. This is an outstanding beer that has aged well. Very smooth in the finish.
4.4 Bottle, courtesy of Kermis, @Dean Sticky Floor Tasting 2. This pours a headless, pitch black beer without any light shining trough. Daunting beer. Aroma of ashes, tobacco, vanilla, molasses and some bourbon oak. Very promising. Great full, smooth aroma. Flavour is sweet alcholic, oaky and light on the boozyness. Full bodied, great age on it. (bottled in 2009) Incredible beer!
4.4 Bottle from kermis shared @ Dean’s Sticky Floor Tasting II. Pours black with a tan head. Gentle aroma of molasses, caramel and vanilla. The taste is mellow, matching the aroma. Absolutely wonderful
4.1 Bottle at DSFT2. Aroma is wood and coffee. Lots of bourbon, very smooth. Some alcohol but caramel really takes over. Burnt ashes and toffee. Very nice. Not like a heavy imperial stout at all. Thanks kermis!
4.0 Bottle shared at Dean’s sticky floor tasting 2 thanks to trade with Bierkoning. Pours almost black with a ring beige head. Aroma of chocolate, wood, caramel, toffee, molasses, tobacco, ashes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.
3.8 75cl bottle courtesy of Kermis @DSFT2 Thin creamy tan head. Clear black pour. Nice smooth woody chocolate taste.
4.6 330 ml bottle. Pours an opaque orangeish-brownish black with a very thick and resilient beige head. Aroma is roast, chocolate, coffee, caramel. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, roast, sweet chocolate, black cherry, wood, maybe a touch of smoke. Finish is burnt coffee grains, somewhat weak bitterness (much sweeter than bitter). Lingering brown sugar and burnt caramel flavors. Thick body, sticky and velvety mouthfeel, weak carbonation. Just a tad bit lacking in taste (bitterness, mostly) to be perfect - otherwise, an extremely solid brew.
4.0 Appearance: A dark black redish beer. An off-white head with no lacing and good curtains. Palate: No carbonation, a soft texture. A big body with a good dry finish. Overall: Strong black presence, coffee, figs, and rather bitter. Note: Bottle 330 ml at The Flying Elk. Reviewed 2013-05-01.
