3.1Aroma: Malt, hint of caramel Appearance: Brown, amber, orange, hazy, building disappearing foam, light lacing Taste: Smoke, dry, bitter
1.8Fontein
Oranje. Wazig met schuimige witte kraag
Aroma: zeep, rook, mout, citrus, grapefruit
3.1Long neck 330 ml bottle, at home, poured into a shaker glass. ABV 4%. Bottled on 29/6/11.
Ridiculous amount of foam, it took me ages to pour a proper glass of beer because with every pour the glass was filling with foam. Speaking of the foam, off-white in colour and very soapy-like. Colour of the beer itself was a slighty hazy, pale yellow, with lots of activity in it.
Aroma is mainly smoked malts and after the foam finally collapses a bit, a yeasty smell is coming forward.
Taste follows the aroma, lots of smoked malts, a bit of fruitiness as well with faint citrus notes, and a good bitter and quite hoppy aftertaste.
Medium thick body, lots of carbonation. Little dry feeling on the palate.
Good one, my only objection is the extra ordinary amount of foam.
3.2bottle, 33cl @ home. pours cloudy golden with a huge white head, light, dry, smoky aroma. high CO2 in the mouthfeel. Dry, slightly smoky, malty flavor.
2.7Golden pilsener like shine with very large head. Taste and aroma of smoked barley, slightly bitter. Long lasting smoked aftertaste, a bit too strong smoked aftertaste.
3.3Bottle at Monks Porter House.
Hazy dark golden with a white head. Aroma of smoked ham, wood, fruit and malt. Taste of smoke, ham, wood, fruit and some light spices. Soft mouth feel but a pleasant "light" beer from De Molen.
3.2Bottle, february 9th 2013. A 4% smoked beer from De Molen, that’s most welcome. Golden body, sparkling, with a huge creamy white head. Smokeheavy aroma with bacon and bread. Just missing eggs and tomatoes now and we’d have a perfect breakfast. Taste is lower on smoke giving room for citrus hops and malt. High bitterness, a bit off, unbalanced. Dry malty finish. The beer starts good but the rest can’t quite live up to the good start.
3.3March 2013 - cold bottle. Bottled Jun 2011. Pale orange colour. Slightly smoked. Malty with no real bitterness. Not much in the aftertaste. It’s quite a nice smoked beer, but really nothing that special. I would much prefer the Aecht Shlenkerla beers.
3.1Malty and smokey nose. Pale large head. Hazy golden color. Fresh taste with hops and smokiness. Average carbonation. At the end hops bite.
2.2Bottle from De Molen shop in Bodegraven. The foam gushed out. Weak smell with some smoke. Light body and high amount of carbonation. Smoky taste with some hardbread. Either old or not my kind of beer.
3.1Bottled. Dark coppery colour with a very high carbonation while poured. Off white head with a good duration. Aroma is light malty and slightly smoky. Flavor is dominated by an light smokiness very well compensated with a good maltiness.
2.9Kaatuu lasiin kullankeltaisena, kirkkaana ja aivan valtavalla vaahdolla. Aluksi lasi oli vaahtoa täynnä. Haju on yrttisen savuinen, kukkainen ja maltainen. Maku on savuinen, kitkerä, maltainen, yrttinen, jopa lakritsinen ja kukkainen. Suutuntuma on melko täyteläinen, mutta kitkerä. Kokonaisuutena yllättävän hyvän hajuinen, mutta aivan turhan kitkerä savuolut. Tyyli ei kylläkään edelleenkään ole mieleen.
3.4Hazy golden colour with an enormous off white head. Lively carbonation. What a nice and unusual mix. Light smoked and fruity aroma. Medium body and slightly sweet. Light smoked and a fine fruity flavour. 221212 tour.
[Bottle from Meny Oslo City in Oslo, Norway]
3.5Bottle from grocery store in Oslo. Poured into tulip glass. Mainly tons of foam at first. But it all comes down to about an inch of white head, with a pretty honeycomb pattern, when the beer finally settles in the glass. Long-lasting head. The beer itself is slightly hazy, a dark golden color. Sweet nose, with notes of caramel malts and red berries, and a hint of nuts and bacon. Bacon and smoke dominates the flavor, with some nuts and some fruity notes. Easy to drink. Good balance slightly shifted towards bitter. Pleasant, soft carbonation. Medium to light body. Overall very nice for a low-ish abv beer! I wish I had some kind of meat as a snack to go with it!
3.2Bottle @ the Brauhaus. This pours blonde with quite a haze and a generous head. The nose has a confusing mix of smoke and IPA notes - like smoked grapefruit or something. The taste isn’t quite as smokey and that’s slightly disappointing. It’s citrussy IPA with a very light smoked note. The palate is decent with a medium body and texture though the end doesn’t quite leave you wanting more. Very interesting, however!
2.533cl. Bottle.
Poors cloudy yellow with huge white head.
Aroma fruits, greapefruit, peach, smoke.
Taste charcoal, smoke, bitter.
Mouth-feel thin.
I really don’t like the smoked taste, I guess this is to bad for me ;)
3.3Smells fantastic, but doesn’t quite deliver on the taste or palate. Nice peaty aroma and taste, but falls very much short on richness and staying power. A bit over carbonated, but not as bad as I feared. Ok, all in all.
3.3Donkergele kleur, veel te veel schuim. Troebel, zwevende dingetjes. Ruikt fruitige hoppig. Smaakt kruidig, peper, citrusbitter. Pittig kruidige nasmaak. Medium body.
2.9Keg in The Rake. Hazy amber, white head. Nose is spicy, clove, smokey barbecue, sour red berry, cranberry. Taste is bitter sour, yeast sour, smoked bacon. Weird combination, sour berry, cranberry, bitter goji berry.
2.533cl fles @home. Ik ben niet de enigste die 0,5 cm bier en 10 cm schuim in het glas krijgt. een beetje heel veel koolzuur. smaak in het begin niet te best. erg vreemd. later wordt het beter en kan ik nog een redelijke score geven.
3.1I knew it was too good to last: after 5 or so perfectly carbonated beers from de Molen I finally got one of their quite abundant not-so-perfectly carbonated ones. It doesn’t gush too violently and nothing ends up on the table, but the first try nevertheless results in 0.5 cm of ale and 10 cm of something that looks like frothy bath foam in my glass. The body is light golden and a bit hazy, and once all the beer is poured and the froth has settled, the head is rather long-lived and leaves some lacing. Moderate aroma that is all peat and charcoal, and some sweetness. Simple but nice. Rather sweet taste and a moderate to light bitterness in the quite long-lasting finish. The flavour is mild and clean smoke and peat, and very little sausage and meat (somebody ought to use that sentence in a poem). There are also some very welcome fruity notes, almost citric, that makes the beer quite crisp, and that something I very often miss in this beer style. Light to medium body, watery to oily texture and lively carbonation. A gentle smoked!
[33 cl bottle, enjoyed 1 year before BB date, from Meny Oslo City, Oslo]
3.1Gusher. Huge white head slowly shrinks. Hazy deep yellow body. Earthy wood smoke aroma with mealy herbal notes. Dry-sweet mealy toffee and wood smoke taste with resiny notes. Mid-bodied. Faintly sharp mouthfeel. Dryish smoky sugary aftertaste with mealy notes. Interesting, and not bad at all. (0.33l bottle, Lørenskog Brusshop.)
3.4Hazy yellow body with enormous white head. Aroma is citrus dominated. Taste is malty and smoked. Nice beer but way too much carbonation.
2.4Way to big head on a cloudy golden body. Smoked, citrus and spices. Nothing that makes me happy at this one.
3.1180112@DØE Århus syd De Molen tasing: Orange colored smoke beer with a fine foam. The beer is too overkarboneret Aroma and flavor are nice smoked. bitter finish.
3.3Golden with a frothy white head. Malty with smoky tones. Malt, smoke and hops. Medium body with a nice dry finish.
2.8Brewed on 29th oj June 2011, so probably the following events is related to that.
Hazy golden color with too much head. I spent 5 minutes waiting for the foam settling down and then I poured carefully the other half from the bottle and blew out again. Shit! Sharp character, no doubt. Too much movement in there with all those persistent sparkling bubbles, ecc...
Aroma is predominately smoked along with grassy hops. Yes, there’s something I didn’t enjoy so much.
Smoked tastes, obviously and that dry bitter after taste. Light beer, super high carbonated (I burped all the time). Alcohol wasn’t felt, of course (4%abv).
Dude, I’m lazy to keep talking about this. It disappointed me like Bed & Breakfast of the same brewing. De Molen I love you, you know, but sometimes it comes out some Frankeinsteins from Bodegraven.
Next please.
4.0Mmmm bacon beer. The smoke is dominant but not overwhelming as other flavors are able to muscle their way in, including some surprisingly sweet sugary elements. Still, if your thing isn’t smoke, then avoid all but a few sips. Tried with Jessica Ludy and Dave at the brewery in 2012.
2.9The head is much, but medium robust, the body is orange-brown and cloudy. It smells intensive smoky, malty. The taste is in the beginning smokey then a bit less smoky, more mild and CO², also a bit sweet and bitter. Ok, but not very good Smoked beer 10/10/9/10/11/11
3.4Bottle. Somewhat hazy golden beer with a huge white head. Aroma from smoked ham, hops, sweetish malty, bacon, fruity, grapes. Hoppy flavor, perfume, smoked ham, rather bitter, but also fruity, malty, spicy notes. A bit hard to get a grip on, but a decent beer. The smoke is held back, which is a good thing.
