4.1 Liquid is black as night, average, light brown head. Aroma of stout, smoky, hint of whisky. Medium body, little bit carbonation. Taste of stout, whisky.
3.6 One of many barrel-aged versions of this classic Molen stout, this time on Bowmore barrels; thanks to Steve for sharing. Vintage bottle from 2018 - this is usually how I like my Molen stouts the best... Loose and open, off-beige, quickly dissolving head, black robe with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of hard caramel, Asian fish sauce, old sherry, beef broth, wet wood, walnut liqueur, whisky indeed, liquorice, some damp earth, vague thyme-like touch. Sweetish onset, fig jam and old raisins, hint of blackberry, quite outspoken beef broth-like umami, very soy sauce-like, medium carbonated, hard-caramelly, walnutty and eventually more bitter-chocolatey malt structure with a lot of booziness in the end, genuine whisky indeed, strong and warming with a gentle peaty note, while earthy hops, woody tannins and lots of that soy sauce effect linger alongside a firm maltiness that goes on and on. Intense, very umami and soy sauce-like which in this case is probably due to age - just a tad too much for me here, to be honest.
4.1 Opaque black, thin beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, coffee, dark or red fruits, subtle peated hints of bowmore. Taste: More roasted malts and coffee, quite aggressive, hints of oak. Aftertaste is very nice coffee bitterness. Overall: tasty imperial stout, could use a bit more body and more barrel age notes, but a big plus for bitterness and rich roasted flavour.
4.1 (Bottle) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, liquorice, oak wood, a touch of smoke, dark chocolate and a touch of Islay whisky. Malty, roasted taste with notes of black coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice, oak wood, tar, smoke, whisky and a warming finish with a generous coffee bitterness. Full body, with a certain sweetness. The wood and whisky makes it quite interesting and different, but less balanced than the original H&V. Still and excellent beer.
4.7 Bottle, 0.33l. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, whiskey and wood with earthy note. Pours almost black color with thin creamy brown head and good lacing. Taste starts with sweet and rich roasted malt, following is earthy, smoky and alcoholic, mouthfeel is warm and mild spicy, while finish is light bitter. Full body, thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Bow for more...
4.1 10.5% - Black with dark head. Aroma has alcohol, chocolate, coffee, burnt malts and a touch of smoke and leather. Rich and silky. Lingering roasted bitter taste. Background elements of whisky. Subtle peat and leather. Warming alcohol in the aftertaste.
Het pittige blijft even hangen.
4.3 Bottle - 330ml. Opaque black body with a thin, lasting, beige foamy/creamy head. Rich, complex malty/hoppy aroma with hoppy, oaky, toffee, chocolate, whiskey, and peaty hints. Alcohol remains in the background. Texture is soft and malty taste carries earthy, peaty, tobacco, roasty, and whiskey notes. Ends with a warming, sweet/woody finish. Very interesting.
4.1 This 33 cl bottle is the last of an exchange from Benzai, all the best my friend. I appreciate what De Molen delivers and now I have an imperial stout that is barrel aged from them. Expectations for sure. I have my Cowtown snifter for this tasting and make the pour. Paint it black with a thin rim of light tan bubbles. It follows with a fine scent of dark chocolate, berries and an entry by the booze. Now the taste, quite fine also. I get the chocolate of course, malt, baked bread, caramel, strawberry and a finish of coal with a decent bitterness. Not my favorite De Molen imperial stout but still good.
3.8 Bottle @ Tidens Farver tasting. Pours black with a creamy brown head, light lacings. Aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, light chocolate, licorice, light wood, smoke, whisky, light peat. Flavor is sweet, roast malt, coffee, chocolate, wood, peaty, whisky, alcohol. Medium body, average sweet carbonation, sweet light bitter peaty finish with warming alcohol. 140220
3.9 33 cl fles. Zwart bier met bruin schuim. Geur: zoet, zurig fruitig, wat limoen, Madagaskar vanille, melkchocolade, kruidig. Smaak: chocolade, koffie, alcoholisch, geroosterde moutbitterheid en hopbitterheid. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: goed gebakken broodkorst, alcohol verwarmend. Lekker.
4.5 On tap @ Ghetto Something, Koper, Si. Pours black color with light brown, creamy head. Aroma of peated malts, cigar smoke, chocolate and coffee. Very rich, sweet, smokey with taste of whiskey at the end of the sip. Great one...
3.9 Pours a deep black color with tan head. Fresh chocolate and scotch aroma. Red apple peel then dry bitter chocolate with a bacon like boozy edge. Notes: bottle, Dec ‘19
4.0 Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate with some heavy peated malt notes form the barrels. Taste is a mix of black chocolate notes with some light roasted malt and some heavy peated malt notes with some light residual sugar notes. Body is pretty full with good level of carbonation and alcohol is almost not discernible. Another great BA stout form De Molen with some heavy barrel notes.
3.9 bottle that pours unclear dark brown with a nice reviving beige head offering some retention and lacing. iodized dark grapey maltiness, in your face drying salty bowmore, super charred berries, tar, dry molasses, bitter resin, coffee grinds, iron, some roast acidity . moderately low carbonation, medium to full body - creamy and oily; dry woody-spicy-smoky finish. unmistakably bowmore-driven high gravity stout. fun but not up there with some of their BA iterations.
3.8 Tap @ De Kaapse Brouwers, Rotterdam. Pours black color with a large beige head. Aroma is roasted malty and chocolaty, the barrel notes are a bit off here, subtle medicinal notes, distant vanilla. Flavor is roasted malty, somewhat minty too, chocolate, cocoa and subtle whiskey notes. Not the best barreling of the base beer, decent. 4424
Sztos
3.1 Bottle (thanks FatPhil). Pitch black color. Small size, brown head, stays. Alcohol, raisins, roast, woody, oak in aroma/taste. Boozy mouthfeel. Harsh to drink. Drinkable brew.
W smaku słodkie, torfowe, wyczuwalny sos sojowy, nuty wędzone, deserowa czekolada, kakao, mocna kawa. Degustacyjne, nieco alkoholowe, goryczka średnia, palona. Ogólnie przyjemny, choć nieco zbyt alkoholowy ris.
3.9 330ml bottle, thanks Fatphil. Pours black, beige medium sized head. Aroma is roasty, chocolatey, cocoa, mild sourness. Taste is chocolatey, dark chocolate, mildly malty (whisky maltiness), ashy. Some booze in aftertaste. Very nice dry finish. Full body, bit below average carbonation. Very nice
3.6 From 0,75l bottle at Sanders place. Black color, no head. Smells whisky, lightly peaty, vanilla, bitter chocolate, nice smell. Full body, no carbonation. Tastes of peat, soy sauce, nutty, marzipan, earthy, light chocolate, earthy. Finishes lightly roasty bitter with notes of marzipan, nutty and boozy notes. Not the best balance decent overall
4.2 Bottled, not sure where i got it from (somewhere online). Pitch black, nice brown head. Phenomenal nose, Hel and Verdoemenis on steroids. Flavor is less complex, although still really good. You can't ruin a classic ;-).
3.3 Pours black with creamy espresso head. Aroma: smoke, spirit, dark chocolate, Belgian pralines. Taste: chocolate, quite a lot of booze, smoke. Pretty boozy in the palate.
3.9 Sample from tap @ Salón piva in Bratislava (2nd day). F: medium, tan, good retention. C: black, opaque. A: rich dark malty, chocolate, vinous, red berries, cocoa, coffee, complex. T: full dark malty base, red wine, woody, cocoa, chocolate, nice complex with phenolic touch, full body and lower carbonation, quite nice, fully enjoyed.
4.2 Ciemnobrunatne nieprzezroczyste piwo z obfitą beżową pianą która opadając zdobi szkło. Aromat suszonych owoców głównie śliwki, czekolada, nuty dymione. W smaku ciemne owoce, czekolada, karmel, trochę alkoholu może whisky, posmak torfu. Lekka słodycz szybko przełamana goryczką od chmielu i słodow palonych. Smak można powiedzieć wielowątkowy. Dobry stout
4.0 Bottle picked up from Beer Gonzo Webshop, Earlsdon, Coventry and consumed at home Attenkirchen, Friday 26th April 2019 having just eaten Pistachio and Yoghurt Chicken Curry, Tarka Dhal and Loz is making a Special Rice, listening to Steve Lamaq on 6 Music. Pours black with a huge foamy tan head, looks great. Lots of dark chocolate in the mouth, the aroma is Islay but I can get on with it fine, smooth but with a bitter finish, liquorice, cocoa. It's a little boozy but good for it. Lovely.
4.4 Na salóne piva apríl 2019. Vona: cokoladova Farba: cierna Chut: cokoladova alkoholova
4.3 Salon piva, parada :)
