3.6 Bottle shared at home. Black with small bubbly light brown head. Earthy, peat, coffee, dead leaves, miso, hay, cocoa powder. Light sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation. The barrel is a bit too much here, slightly disappointing.
3.8 330ml bottle (thanks FatPhil). Very dark brown color. Small size, brown head, stays as a ring. Roast, peanuts, biscuits, malty, sunflower oil, bit of peat in aroma. Smoked peat, bit ashy, roasted, oily, peanuts and bit of toffee in taste. Ashy roast and oily peanuts in aftertaste. Oily and ashy mouthfeel. Rough, but nice. Excellent brew.
3.8 330ml bottle - bottled 2013/07 - at 11% Nice peanutty aroma, but with a nice dry smoky aspect. Black, small tan head. Rich palate, smooth, very full, lovely soft carbonation. Really deep roast, but not harsh. Lovely dry smoky whisky too, at the fore, dominant even, but not aggressive. Lovely sipper, managed to stretch it out over a very long time, and was sad to have it end. Finish smoky, as per taste, just stretches the taste out nicely. Bye bye, so long :-{
3.8 sample from bottle, murky dark brown to black colour with a tanned head on top. nose of bitter chocolate, roasted noats, salty licorice, charred oak, smoke, and salted peat smoke, pretty heavy on the peat notes. masks te base beer pretty much
3.5 Bottle thanks to MrH! Pours dark black, small brown head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Nose is hella smoky, peat, light roast. Flavor is the same, super peaty with a light stout roast peaking through. YOu would have to love peaty scotch to dig this one. Medium light body. Disappointing in terms of how much of the base beer is lost in the peat.
3.5 Bottle at home. Clear black with a small light tan head. Aromas heavy malty (caramel, roasted, licorice, heavy smoked whisky and barrel, notes of cherries). Flavor lots of alcohol, smoke, wood, licorice. Almost full body, quite flat.
2.2 12oz bottle pours a murky, dark brown with some clumpy, brown head. Nose has peaty scotch, salted peanuts, molasses, smoke. Flavor is rubber band, black pepper, tire fire. Smokey/salty finish. Too much.
3.7 Bottle at the nuplastikk returns tasting in VA. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of cherries, chocolate, whiskey, wood and oak. Tastes of whiskey, oak, chocolate, peat. Medium body with a dry finish. Very oaky.
3.7 Bottle. Dark brown color, tan head. Huge smoky peaty aroma. Taste is burnt peat, campfire. Whoa.
3.2 Dark brown body with a small beige cap. Huge campfire smoke aroma. Smoked sausage, fire, malt. Aggressive char and smoke character. One dimensional.
3.2 Is there beer behind this smoke? Huge smokescreen. Some dark chocolate. Black pour with good head and lacing. Very bitter. Not very drinkable. Bottle shared at tasting.
3.9 Bottled 9th of july 2013. Pitch black. No head at all. Thin round froth on edge of thr glass. Intense smoky, whiskey, oaky, roasted coffee been aroma. Coffee beans, whiskey, smoke, caramel. Very heavy-bodied with extremly sharpe whiskey taste, oily, absolutely phenomenal beer. Definitely worth of trying.
4.0 33cl bottle at home. Pitch black with a tiny tan head. Full body with low carbonation. Smokey sweetness with some bitter tones. Roasted malts, dark chocolate, espresso, whiskey, oak, vanilla, lots of peat and spices. Quite heavy on the peat, but still a very nice IRS.
3.7 Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Stas & Vova. Deep brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and smoked peat. Sweet malty start, roasted malt , coffee, peat, iodine, soy, grassy and earthy notes. Medium-bodied, quite dry. Nice one!
4.1 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Stas&Vova. Black with a brown head. Peaty, sea salt, then cocoa undertones aroma, smoky, then cocoa and a wee bit roasty in the mouth. No carbonation, full body, roasty and delicately smoky finish.
3.6 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. Black with a light brown head. Big aroma, roasty and peaty, with some chocolate. Sweet flavor, roasty, smoky, peaty, with soy sauce saltiness, chocolate, and a burnt finish. Full-bodied.
4.3 Flaska Bishop Arms Gustav Adolfs Torg i Malmö (vilket utbud. Flera vintage!! BA i GBG ligger efter) Fantastisk arom, nästan svart! Tyvärr rumstemperatur , annars hade den nog varit ännu bättre om några grader kallare. Vilken lång rökig eftersmak!!
3.8 33cl bottle at home from de Molen, Bodegraven. Body is pitch black, head is very small, beige, creamy, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Nose is smoke, flavor is coal, roasted peanuts, smoked cheese, old wood. Medium to heavy bitter, medium umami, light salt. Finish is long lasting smoky, roasty medium bitter, alcohol is totally hidden. Full body, oily texture, nearly flat carbonation. Not too heavy, extreme aroma, not delicious but interesting.
3.6 Bottle... Pours cloudy and dark brown with no head. Great peat smoke and fudge aroma. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. The flavor is crazy-sweet and peaty with alcohol bitterness and warmth, but no scorching alcohol heat. Unfortunately, there is some cardboard here. Finishes sweet, peaty and warming with an unfortunate cardboard aftertaste. Everything is great here except the annoying, overbearingly sweet, peat smoke flavor. Bottle courtesy of MrHangover!
4.0 from Erzbierschof - black beer under a modest foam left; a fair peated whisky aroma with notes of caramel, roasted coffee and black cherries; full-bodied, thick and with a low carbonation; fairly sweet and with a late but solid bitterness; decently dry and very peated whisky and chocolatey aftertaste with a warming alcohol presence
4.3 330 ml bottle courtesy of Benzai. Thanks. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head that soon recedes to a fine ring. The aroma is strong with peat smoke and chocolates. The flavor, like the aroma, is strong with peat and dark baking chocolate. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. Finishes long and dry. Overall: Loved it.
4.0 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is peat, chocolate, roasted, taste is similar, very dry, very smoky.
3.2 beige dense head with thick CO2 bubbles that disappears quickly. coffee coloured. aroma is boozy, leather, smoked malt. taste like aroma, phenolic, bit medicinal. medium body, flat no carbonation. the bunnahabhain totally overpowers h&v, a shame, i like the original way more. bottle 33cl / bd jul-2013
4.2 Bottle at Biercab. Black colour with brown head. Roasted, peated, coffeee aroma. Roasted, peated, leather taste, some alcohol. Medium to full body.
3.2 Bue en bouteille. Bière ultra foncée, très forte. On sent le malt, le fumé, la tourbe, l’alcool. Très lourde en bouche.
4.4 Bottle from De Molen web shop. Very dark chestnut brown color with thick beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, prunes, peat, lot of peat. Delicious taste of roasted malt, dark chocolate, cofee beans, ash, earty notes, peat, whiskey. Roasted bitter, alcoholic finish. Awesome.
