De Molen Hemel & Aarde (Heaven & Earth)

De Molen Hemel & Aarde (Heaven & Earth)

Made with the most heavily peated
malt in the world from the Bruichladdich
distillery. Almost pitch black
and opaque, small head. Furiously peated
aroma, hiding the malt, licorice
and dark chocolate somewhat. Very
full bodied, thick mouthfeel, like fluid
bread. Dark chocolate, loads of peat,
lapsang souchong tea, chocolate cake,
culminating in an almost endless
aftertaste that also has licorice.
Alcohol varies by batch.

4.0 Smoke, smoke, smoke.
4.0 Smoke smoke smoke. On the nose. On the palate. On the finish. Lets dig deeper. The smoke hides the licorice well. There is some bacon flavour intriguingly as well as some pecan pie. And some almond meal. But smokey. Like drinking a peat bog. But fascinating.
3.6 if you're gonna drink a smokey beer Claire, this is an acceptable option
4.1 0.33 bottle C: opaque N: peat, Islay whisky, roasted malt P: heavy peat, iodine, oak, rooty, mint, crisp, alcohol is hidden, malty sweetness in the finish.
4.4 Bottle from w.16 bought in Jan 2013, $7 CAD, cellared for 7 years. Attack: creamy, silky thick Mids: lengthy peaty brown sugar malt, lvl6-sweetness, whiskey numbing, soy sauce Finish: rubber, peaty exhale, deep roast Overall: super roast, excellent balance and drinkability, almost perfect beer for me.
3.9 Beer tasting @ Gaultier 5/1-20. Roasted malty with coffee, charcuteries and smoke. Body is medium, the finish is dry and roasted.
3.9 @ Tjottahaijti 20200105. Bottle (330 ml) from Ales & Brews. Roasted malty and peaty with charcuteries, dark chocolate, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and roasted.
3.9 Bottle from ales and brews. Pours a dark colour beer with a smal head. Roasted malt with notes of charcheturier, chocolate and ash. Dry finish.
3.9 Smoked flavor: smoked meat. Black, impervious with a little brown foam. The taste is smoked, burned malt. The finish is bitter. Dense body, carbonation is small.
4.0 Bottle at home picked up from the brewery. Bottled 04/05/2019. Ajet black coloured pour with a lasting light tan head. Aroma is salty meat, soy, smoked malts, phenolic, charred wood. Flavour is composed of rich sweet fruit cake, mellow roast with a hint of ash, muscavado sugars, rich, some background smoked malts, phenols. Palate is medium sweet, medium full bodied, velvety. little lingering farmyard roast, leather,
3.8 My 2000th rating on RB in Beer O'clock - Bucharest. Rocky off white head on a dark mahogany still body. Smoked bacon aroma. Medium to full bodied greasy & cloying on the palate. Sweet liquorice, malt, syrup & jam tastes.
3.8 Dark brown appearance. Aroma is smoked, sweet and sugar. Flavour is smoked, dry, sweet, roasted and coffee.
4.0 Rich black with tan head, smoky aroma. Taste molasses, treacle, and roast malt with smoke in the background. Full mouthfeel. Very tasty.
4.7 330ml bottle from Bacchanalia, Cambridge in 2013. Poured Black with a dense tan head. Rich aroma of dark fruit, spice, leather, port and peated whisky. Really full, smooth body. Smokey flavours with molasses, treacle and roasted malt. Finish was burnt malt, black syrup, prunes and liquorice. Probably my favourite De Molen beers, which by default would also make it one of my all time favourites.
3.8 Color negro, opaca.
4.1 Wow. Øl fra øverste hylde. Masser af humle og velsmag. Indbydende aroma. God bitterhed
4.0 I find De Molen brews almost impossible to find in the states, got fortunate with Hemel & Aarde in Santa Fe at Susan’s. My thanks. A 33 cl bottle that says dob on 5/3/12. Times awasting, I lift the lid and pour into my Cowtown snifter. It delivers a chocolate-black body topped with a fleeting top of light tan, very fine bubbles. The snifter shares the scent of earth and charcoal. Curious. The taste, rather different, and in a good way, tobacco, ash, blueberry, toffee, burnt pecans and bakers chocolate. No hint at all of the 10% abv. A nuanced veer from your standard imperial stout, not sure I will seek out later. But it is good. Points for trying something different.
4.2 Brawa czarna, nieprzejrzyste. Uwielbiam takie piwa.
3.5 Near black pour with cocoa head. Peaty smoke is HEAVY on the nose and palate. A little much even for me. That said, the body is smooth AF, and the char, chocolate and coffee underneath are quite pleasant.
3.6 Tap pour at Armsby Abbey. Appearance is pitch black with no discernible sparkle, finger-width light brown foamy head with decent retention. Aroma has roasted malt but also a weird, quasi-industrial plastic/glue earthy/tart thing going on. Taste is similar to aroma; weird. Yes, strong, rich roasted malt but also a tart/yeasty sourness that's pseudo-industrial--not altogether pleasant. Palate is medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, some nice, decadent bits here but a bit of a weird quality as well.
4.0 Served in a balloon glass at Las Buenas Pulgas. Pours a black colour, medium beige head with short retention. Small lacing. Aroma is smokey, with tobacco, leather, vanilla, chocolate. Medium to full body, sticky texture, normal carbonation. Dry finish. Smokey taste, also with tobacco, leather, some chocolate and vanilla. Good one.
4.0 330ml bottle from beergonzo.co.uk. Black colour with tan head. Big dark roasted malt, big Islay, big peat, big iodine, medicinal, smoke, varnish, burnt coffee beans, burnt tobacco, soy sauce, burnt cocoa beans, leather, ash, espresso, booze, burnt wood, umami, earthy, gravy granules, burnt toast. One for the peat fans, definitely a love it or hate it type beer.
4.0 Aroma of roasted malt,smoked bacon.Tasts of roasted malt,smoked wood,tofee,cocoa beans.
