4.2 Pours opaque black with a large brown head which hangs around for ages. Aroma is coffee, caramel, vanilla, molasses. Taste is sweet molasses, vanilla sweet, caramel sweet, really smooth roasty coffee, a hint of berry acidity. Thick body with a luxurious mouthfeel.
3.6 330ml bottle. Purchased this beer when I found out what it was. Considering what it is this beer is fantastic! Intense stout with a considerable coffee backbone.
3.6 Bottle from Kris Wines. Had this a couple of years. Opens with very little carboantion. Pours opaque very very dark brown to black, no head. Nose is like cold black coffee, dusty, coffee grains, cocoa dust, slight metallic, sweet, dark chocolate. Taste is black coffee, dark chocolate, coffee grains, brown sugar, roasted malt. Mouthfeel has almost no carbonation.
3.2 Bottle from Denman Liquor. Dark brown. BIg head, probably too much. The aroma is a bit odd, lots of coffee, but a fair bit of fruitiness. Medium body, some molassesy sweetness but simple dark sugars. Lots of coffee, though it doesn’t distinguish itself much.
3.9 (Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, caramel, cacao, dark rye bread and a touch of liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with lots of fresh coffee, liquorice, dark chocolate, black rye bread, roasted malt and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Full body, with just a touch of sweetness. Fresh an tasty with a generous coffee character (more so in the mouth than in the nose) and alcohol well hidden. Very nice.
4.4 Bottle, 330 ml from Roybeer, Milano. Shared with JFK10000. Pours black with medium dense light brown head. Fantastic coffee aroma. Roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Sweet with bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Alcohol well hidden. Long finish. Very nice.
4.4 330ml bottle. Deep black in colour with a very large and long lasting tan head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of espresso, dark chocolate, deep roast, burnt. The flavour is of espresso and cream, dark chocolate, rasted malts, some sugary sweetness. Roasty mouthfeel, medium body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, roasty and warming. This is amazing stuff. The alcohol is very well hidden, so roasty and toasty. Very good.
4.3 Dark-brown coloured beer with an off white head. Modarate intensive aroma with notes of coffee, chocolate, pepper. Taste: starts with malty sweetness, followed by a long hoppy, bitterness. Very complex. Oily texture, soft carbonation.
4.1 0,33l Flasche. Dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier, etwas beiger Schaum. Riecht nach Röstmalzen und Kaffee, schmeckt intensiv nach Kaffee und Bitterschokolade. Trotzdem kommt noch der typische eines Stout durch. In der Textur ölig voluminös.
4.0 Bottle at la cervesera artesana. Black colour with beige head. Roasted, coffee, herbal aroma. Roasted, coffee, dark chocolate, herbal, slightly sweet taste. Medium to full body.
4.4 33cl Bottle from ABCbeers. Holy moly, coffee cherry bomb! This is the shit right there! *nudge nudge, wink wink*. Backlog from 2014/04/04. 33cl Bottle from Kaapse Brouwers shop, as "Luwak Beer" from Hofje van Wijs, had on 2014/10/31. One more time thanks to deanso! Gone a bit dusty bit still intense asphalt bitter coffee. Fucking best ! Aaarggghlll! 2016/10/13
3.9 33cl bottle (bottled 24/01/13 and probably bought at Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo). Pours Very dark brown with almost no head at all. Did open it when it was still a bit to cold and then the aroma was surprisingly modest. As it gains temperature it opens up and the strong coffee aroma gets quite obvious. Nice roasty aroma with lot of coffee, some cocoa, earthy notes, dark fruits and hints of licorice, vanilla and wood. Medium sweet, surprisingly easy to drink and feels much lighter than expected. Alcohol is well integrated. Flavourful and certainly nice, but feels a bit thin somehow.
4.8 Piwo dwa lata po terminie, zestarzało się nieziemsko. Bardzo intensywny aromat, kawa, czekoladowość, paloność, suszone owoce. W smaku niezwykle gęste, oblepia kubki smakowe. Szlachetny alkohol rozgrzewa. Piwo rozpływa się w ustach. Jeśli gdziekolwiek natraficie, polecam, jedno z najlepszych piw w życiu!
4.6 Vintage 2013. Bottle shared with kurczako. Cheers, Łukasz! Aroma: Coffee, fruit, cherry, some espresso fruit. Appearance: Great head, forming like nitrogen, black, head is quite low but nice lacing and very durable. Taste: Bit of coffee sourness, coffee, coffee, coffee, great coffee, also cherry, other fruits, medium-high coffee bitterness. Palate: Finish is medium sweet and coffee biterness, carbonation is low, body is full.
5.0 Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate & caramel. Brown/black with tanned head. Sweet chocolate, cocoa & coffee in the taste. Medium body, oily texture & soft carbonation. Long warm finish.
4.6 Wijsbier & De Molen. Niskie nasycenie.
4.1 (330ml 24/01/2013 bottle @ PiBar, Lausanne, Aug 11 2015) Pours black with a fairly small whitish head fading to a ring without lace. Aroma is pungent roasted coffee beans, very earthy, ashy, liquorice, sweet chocolate and dark malt core restrained but there in support of the big roast bitterness. On the palate, a big roasty coffee note, earth, soy, liquorice, bitter chocolate, sweet dark malt is restrained and only shows up when warm. Finish has lots of coffee roast, burnt and ashy with some earth, just a hint of alcohol heat. Medium full but slick with fairly soft carbonation. Coffee really stands out here, malt gives it proper support, a little less rich and more harshly roasted than Brunch Weasel, De Molen style. Probably good they stopped making it, but glad I got to try it.
3.4 Bottle, bottle date 24/1/2013. pours black with almost no head. Big coffee, soy sauce, liquorice, slightly salty, butterscotch, plums, dark chocolate. Medium sweet and bitter, medium body, thin-ish slick texture, almost no carbonation, lingering soy and chocolate finish. Good taste, but lacking in mouthfeel and appearance.
3.9 Drank a 2013 bottle with my toommates 16-7-2015. An okay beer, however the taste is not very comprehensive and a bit faded. The beer lacks some power. Still, very pleasant stout, well balanced and a nice taste.
3.9 Enticing aroma of licorice in an inky black pour. Flavour is impressively and surprisingly laid-back for the strength with hints of licorice, coffee, and chocolate in a refreshingly tart wrapping. A sublime brew to be honest.
4.3 De molen duft ristet kaffe chokolade, mørkt malt smag meget kaffe blød mørk chokolade super meget smag mørkt malt
4.2 Bottle filled to nearly the cap pours opaque black with enormous tan head. Nose dark roast coffee, slightly spicy, and hint of green vegetables, but not unpleasant. Taste big bitter coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Roasted malt from mid palate through the finish. Balanced by some sweet malt as well. If you’re going to use kopi coffee, might as well make it big.
4.2 Pours pitch black with a huge mocha head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans, slight liquorice scent as well. Tastes rich but not too sweet with a dry bitterness. Full body, heavily carbonated, and smooth on the palate. Excellent imperial stout overall.
3.8 33cl bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is cold coffee, roasted malt, soy sauce. Flavour is medium sweet and a little boozy. Medium to full body, thick texture, soft carbonation. Finish is roasted malt bitterness and coffee.
3.5 0,33L bottle (from Koht auction), bottled 24.12.2013. Pours black without head. Aroma is coffee, roast, malt. Flavor is sweet, coffee, malt, roast. Overall: good.
4.1 33cl bottle at home from de Molen, Bodegraven. Body is black, head is nearly flat. Nose is coffee liqueur, flavor is mild coffee, grass, caramel, herbs, vegetables. Medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter. Finish is medium lasting roasty medium bitter, coffee, chocolate, alcohol is totally hidden at the beginning a little bit appears later. Full body, oily texture, nearly flat carbonation. Excellent dessert beer, very easy which is amazing for 11.2% ABV, very unique taste.
2.4 330ml bottle. Clear copper color. Tiny size, bubbly head, stays. Stale coffee, roast, hops, nettles, beans in aroma. Beans, coffee, roast, sweetish in taste. Once beans is detected you can’t undetect it! Fuck is it beans or coffee beans? Arghhhhh....
4.4 Bottle (dated 18/4/12) poured into pint. Vigorous, thick tan head, opaque mahogany body. Slightly fruity nose hints at the high alcohol, with coffee notes predominating. Very dense, rich flavor of roasted malts, bit of plums? Finish seems to go on forever, malt and coffee. A huge, rich, bold stout.
2.1 330ml botte - thanks martjoobolut A: Beans. Greenish. L: Dark. T: Beans. Some Alcohol. P: Beans. Refried, but burnt onto the side of the aluminium pan. O: Beans. Rough, and dirty and burnt. Yeugh.
3.3 Brown beer, small tan head. Nose is stale coffee, roast, booze notes. Flavor is more stale coffee, malts and roast, chocolate notes, soy sauce, dried fruit. Lingering alcohol burn with roast notes. Dissonance of booze and coffee.
