3.7 33cl bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours blackish grey with a small off-white head. Aroma is a little sour, chocolate, roasted malt and oak. Flavour is acidic, salty and medium sweet. Medium bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Finish is a little vinous with dried fruits.
3.8 Bottle at Craig’s. Pours black, sweet chocolate, raisins, bitter roast, liquorice.
4.2 Bottle from saveur bier. Black color, tanned head. Aroma is roasty, cognac notes, some sour notes. Taste is nicely roasty, coffee, cognac notes. Balanced stout.
3.8 330ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. 10-12-2014. Bottled: 09-07-2013. In short: "liquor" stout. Pours black with little tan head, poor lacing. Wood, liquor, coffee, chocolate, subtle smoky aromas. Medium body, flat carbonation, oily texture. Taste is liquor, coffee, some sweet alcohol, some chocolate, lingering sweet and warm notes. Quite enjoyable.
4.0 SHared by martjoobolut, thanks! Cola brown beer, tan head. Massive nose with chocolate, dried fruit, alcohol, smoke. Flavor is dried fruit, chewy malt, chocolate, smoke, vanilla, leathery notes, caramel, wood, bourbon. Warm booze in the finish. Lingering booze and dried fruit. Thick mouthfeel. Surprisingly easy to drink for what it is, a big istout.
4.2 Bottle. Thanks to mike2da. Big dark fruit nose, a little red wine, dark sugar, and alc. fumes. Dark translucent brown. Swirling array of tangy plums and gentle prunes, mild chocolate, and decent bittering in back end. Medium body. Wow! All rich and sustained flavors. Thin for an imperial, but how tasty!
4.0 Bottled. Nose of wood, smoke and berries. Berries, fruit, chocolate, tangy, woody. Slightly spitzy carbonation. Very good.
4.4 0,33L bottle, bottled 09.07.2013. Pours black with small brown head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is intense dark chocolate, roast, smoke, malt, fruity notes, some sweetness and hint of alcohol. Flavor is intense dark chocolate, roast, coffee, smoke, and fruity notes. Finish is dark chocolate and coffee bitter with touch of alcohol. Overall: great brew, very easy to drink.
4.3 Bottle, bd 7-2013. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma: wood, roast, vanilla, butter. Taste: raisins, wood, vanilla, syrup, light peat, chocolate, port. Sweet and bitter, pretty thick velvet mouthfeel, lingering bourbon warming finish. Lovely!
3.3 Bottle picked up from De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands, shared with dad, consumed at home Friday 7th November 2014 Pitch black beer, mmhh... scrub that actually in the light I can see that I am being deceived in fact its more deep dark brown and certainly a bit thinner than some we’ve had tonight. Devoid of a head, looking a little washed out and flat, it has a slightly thick oily mouthfeel. Some smokiness in mouth, its a little dark fruity number but one that sadly disappoints, quite good but not great. A6 A3 T7 P3 Ov14 3.3
4.2 330ml bottle (shared by FatPhil, thanks). Pitch black color. Tiny to almost no head. Raisins, malty, touch of wood, very faint notes of alcohol, melass in aroma. Roast, treacle, dark fruits, very faint hint of whisky in taste. So full body. Delicate balance. Absolutely fantastic. Orgasmatron!
4.0 330ml bottle (ALEhouse, Riga) (8:4:8:4:16-=4.0-) Lovely soft bourbony aroma, gently sweet, hint of butter, dense fruitcake, absolutely delicious. Glassy black, doesn’t keep a head, but wouldn’t expect it to. Full smooth palate, soft and sweet, but not sticky. Warming, but not hot. Roast is deep, but not astringent at all. Sweet, but not sugary, cakey, fruity, a little bit of brandy cream too. Tingle on the tongue from gentle carbonation, and lovely burntness and bitterness. Finish is a little bit dusty from the burnt roast, has the bourbon butteriness. Probably the best beer I’ve ever had that hasn’t made me say "wow". It’s very solid in all regards, impossibly to find fault with it. 11% used very well, has the kind of warmth that I really want right now, but no burn at all. Not sure I get any smokiness anywhere, per se. Wanted to make this last as long as possible.
4.0 Bottle @ døe fadlageret. Very dark brown, small tan head, some lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, sweet vanilla, bourbon, wine, dark fruits. Taste, malty, roasted notes, sweet, acidic, bourbon, vanilla, oak, wine notes, dark fruits, alcohol, molasses.
4.0 Bottled. Black, beige head. Smokey nose with chocolate and madeira. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Port, milk chocolate mild smoke, light tartness. Mid bitter finish with intense heat.
3.9 Bue en bouteille. Arômes caramel, malts grillés et fumés. Bière d’un noir profond sans bulle. Bonne corpulence, pas trop amère. Très agréable !
3.9 330 ml bottle. Bottled on July 9th 2013. From a webshop. Dark reddish brown colour with a tiny light tan ring. The aroma is sweetness, whiskey, roasted malt, sugar, sweet liquorice and some subdued bitterness. The flavour is sweetness, port wine, whiskey, roasted malt, smoke, peat, hops, berries and alcohol. Very strong. Tasty.
4.4 Aroma of dark malt, bourbon, chocolate, subtle smoke, some coffee, peat, wood. Flavour is peaty, chocolate, malty, bourbon, medium to heavy sweet, but within the boundaries. Hides its alcohol remarkably well, I can’t believe this is 11%. Complex and balanced, wonderful beer and one of the finest from De Molen.
4.1 5/VII/14 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ RBBSG III (Gent) - BB: n/a , bottled: 9/VII/13 (2014-765) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle! Cloudy dark brown beer, aery beige irregular head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: dusty, cocoa powder, bit sourish, chocolate, caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of chocolate, mocha, some coffee, caramel. Aftertaste: lots of chocolate, alcohol, boozy, caramel, bitter, more chocolate.
3.9 330 ml bottle. Pours a black colour with a small head. Aroma of roastiness, wet earth, salt, dark chocolate and bread. Complex flavour of roasted malts, salt, bread, some licorice and sweet whisky notes. Full bodied. Oily mouthfeel. Very original flavours and the barrel is not overwhelming. I must say that I like this, quite the contrary to other recent BA Molen imperial stouts.
4.1 33 cl bottle. Pours deep dark red-brown, almost black color with a small off-white head. Very strong bourbon notes on the nose, dark roasted malts, very faint smoke notes, wood and molasses. Roasted malts and chocolate on the flavor, bourbon, syrup and sugar, licorice too, some alcohol burn at the end. A bit sweet but very refined and especially the aroma is excellent. 5326
4.0 33 cl bottle @ tiong. Bottled 09.07.2014, BBE 09.07.2024 Aroma is sweet with whisky tones; peat and licorice. Smoke is just in the background. Also some sweet maltyness. Flavour has peaty notes, whisky, salty licorice and some peat. Nice, I like the licorice notes here and this is quite balanced. Not sure what makes this more smoky than others De Molen BA beers though.
4.1 330ml bottle from De Molen Webshop Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of whisky, oak, wood, vanilla, cocoa, some roastiness and smoked notes. Taste is heavy, roasty and sweet with notes of syrup, smokiness, wood and vanilla, hints of peat. Finish is sweet, heavy and warming with notes of smokiness, roastiness, licorice, peat, oak and whisky. Surprisingly good and balanced.
4.1 Bottle at home (bottled July 9 2013). Pours black with a small tan head. Sweet aroma of smoke, bourbon, dark chocolate. Sweet, light smokey taste, roasted malts, dark chocolate, alcohol, coffee. Maybe just a bit to sharp in the iodine/alcohol in the aftertaste. Nevertheless, very nice.
4.2 Bouteille. De Molen Shop. Robe noir intense, belle mousse beige foncé.
3.9 330ml bottle, thanks to Benzai! Pours deep black with quickly receding tan head and a sweet chocolate and liquorice aroma. Complex smoked flavours, thick and oily mouthfeel with a hint of diesel, BBQ woodchips, caramel, berries, teasing toffee and a subtle sweetness. A taste that feels like it’s constantly evolving. Wonderful stuff.
4.4 330 ml. bottle sampled @ RBBSG III. Thanks to Erwin! Pitch-black, quickly gone mocha head. Nose is sweet liquorish, roast, bourbon, light roast. This blueberry, roast, molasses, liquorish, booze, light smoke. Rich liquorish body. Very nice stuff.
4.4 Pours opaque black with oily film. Arom of cherries from a distance, then a full nose of oak in the glass, with hints of smoke. Complex wine-like notes on the front, with fruitcake, marmalade, and molasses; a bit medicinal. Thick without being syrupy. Extremely well done.
