4.1Bottle a black colored beer with a white-off head aroma roasted malts oak spicy coffee chocolate whiskey caramel oak and some hops flavor roasted malts spicy oak coffee chocolate caramel whiskey oak dried fruits and hops
3.9Pours black opaque with tiny light brown fluffy head. Aroma: roasted grain, malts with notes of caramel, toasted toffee, chocolate, coffee...there’re notes of vanillin, bourbon in the background. Bourbon for sure steps forward when we taste the beer; intense malt flavors, with notes mentioned above by aroma, are almost overdominated by bourbon like flavour. There are also some dark fruit esters...dry, slightly astringent finish with gentle alcohol burnt. Full body, soft texture, moderate carbonation.
Aroma: Geroosterde donkere mouten, chocolade, noten, vanille , bourbon.
Smaak: Vrij zoet, vanille, hout, bourbon, marsepein. Zeer fruitig...framboos, donker fruit.
Top!
3.8Totally De Molen like beer. That’s not the way US stouts are brewed and way they are treated. Here you will find nice deep fruity aroma, along with some hints of vanilla. Taste is light to moderate sweet, fruity, well fermented. ABV is extremely well hidden, highly drinkable. In overall as for imperial stout it should be thicker and more sticky, more roasted notes are also welcome. But all in all nice, drinkable and fruity.
3.9A bit sticky but not very thick beer. Caramel, roast, licorice, bourbon, raisins, vanilla, oak. Not much left of the hops and the bitterness, quite sweet. Bourbon just a bit too strong.Still, quite good.
Seems more like an imperial porter to me.
4.233cl-fles van bij Dranken Geers te Oostakker. U: Zwart met een licht bruine schuimkraag. G: Bourbon, gedroogd fruit en geroosterde mout. S: Zoet met een zeer lichte moutbitterheid. Donker fruit, drop, geroosterde mout en bourbon. Stevige, maar aangename alcoholwarmte. M: Volmondig met lichte carbonatie. Sticky.

4.4Nez: Raisin, bourbon, boisé
Bouche: Chocolat, raisin, vanille, prune, bourbon, liquoreuse
3.9Bottle shared at a tasting at Tom L’s place. Dark brown to black. Great aroma of chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, nuts. Sweet flavor with chocolate, mild roast, bourbon, vanilla, a bit of dark fruits. Full-bodied, rounded.
4.0At Tom’s place, Pours black with a beige head, aroma of bourbon, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, flavor of bourbon, wood, vanilla, coconut, cocoa, full bodied, Great
4.1330ml bottle from Beer Cartel pours almost black with very slow forming off-white head. Intense aromas of dark chocolate, raspberries, dried fruits and bourbon. Tastes of cocoa, espresso, bourbon, brown sugar, black forest cake, burnt toast with some strong herbal characters. Viscous with very low carbonation. The dark bourbon flavour characters are lifted by the intense sweetness, giving this beer a unique personality and an edge over other well-made imperial stouts.
4.4Dark brown, small head. Lovely sweet chocolate, fatty vanilla, deep wood, amazing. Not boozy actually, very balanced with different flavours going on from start to finish. Very soft carbonation makes this a smooth late night treat rather than a beery beer, super nice. Loved it, the bourbon really lifts this up. (33cl bottle from the brewpub)
4.8Jaaaaaa mein Lieblingsstyle... RISs die fett bourbonfassverlagert sind. Gross.
4.4Black color. Very sweet stout, lots of vanilla, caramel, chocolate, barrel, creme brulee, a bit hop bitterness, awesome.
3.9EBC 202 EBU 46. Zwart bier met weinig of geen schuim. Geur: vanille, dadels, vijgen, cereals deluxe! Afdronk: licht bitter, droog.
W posmakach lekki tytoń i paloność. Goryczka średnia, zalegająca, lekko alkoholowo bourbonowa. Wysycenie niskie, w odczuciu szorstkie, odrobinę taninowo-cierpkie, pełne.
W porównaniu do wersji czystej trunek jest mniej estrowy, bez kwaskowych posmaków, wyraźnie waniliowy, ale i mocniej alkoholowy, brak też nieco więcej ciała.
4.2Caña en el señor Lupulo Gijón 09..09..2016. (r170).
4.1One of the last bottles from the De Molen cellar, deep deep red with a lasting thin head and aromas of woody vanilla, treacle, sultanas and a hint of red wine. Smooth and creamy, turning dry and warming, more oaky vanilla and toasted dark fruit. Like sultanas and bitter herbs marinated in Port. Gorgeous.
4.4Bottle, pours pitch black with a small beige head. Thick dark chocolate, bourbon vanilla, wood, cherries, raisins, soy, light earthiness, hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Thick oily body, quite sweet and quite bitter, soft carbonation, hot flashes. Long lasting bourbon and dark chocolate finish. Lovely.
4.2Vintage bottle of about three years old, bought online. Moderately lacing, pale greyish beige, loose head retaining very well as a thin rim around the glass and some small patches of foam in the middle (still present after more than half an hour), sitting on top of a blackish beer for a long while (though eventually vanishing), with a nevertheless translucent mahogany brown core - in fact, more translucent than normal for an ’impy’. Very strong aroma - noticeable from a yard away - of soy sauce, sweet cherry, coffee liqueur, warm chocolate sauce, whisky (or, in fact, bourbon), molasses or even Worcestershire sauce, toffee, vanilla-like oak, wet wood, stewed beef, nutmeg, very old Saint-Emilion wine, candied fig, dried banana, fried forest mushrooms, raisin bread, bayleaf, old dried orange peel, varnish- or even glue-like solvents. Lots of candied sweetness in the onset, candied date or fig, raisin, candied cherry even, countered with an undercurrent of fresh blackberry-like sourishness and, more than anything, a strong beef broth cube-like umami flavor, in a thick and oily, softly carbonated physical environment; these flavors play along over a deep, layered malt body, filling the mouth cavity with initially nutty and caramelly, but eventually mildly toasted bittersweet flavors, evolving into a ’grand finale’ which combines the candied sweetness and malt bittersweetness with beautifully drying wood tannins, even retronasal vanilla-like oak aromas, a touch of spicy hops (probably having lost some of their pungency in three years time) and the expected wave of heating, bourbon-like alcohol, very much present and even subtly noticeable from the start, but somehow remaining gentle and not imposing obnoxious astringency - it’s as if the bourbon features decide to blend in with the (already fantastic) basic beer in the end phase, which is exactly where they belong. The soy sauce-like ’umaminess’ lingers and accompanies this warm alcohol effect, drying wood tannins, candied cherry sweetness and big bittersweet maltiness downwards into the throat. This is a thing of beauty and apparently a joy forever: De Molen rarely disappoints, but in this case the splendid features of the basic beer are mixed with a bourbon factor which remains relatively ’drinkable’ (in terms of smoothness and physical ’easiness’) yet adds a whole dimension of wood and alcohol to it. A true delight, though perhaps a bit intense for non-stoutheads.
3.5ABV 11.4%. 33cl bottle at home from Biernavigatie.nl. Nose is parfume, berries. Body is pitch black, head is small, beige, creamy, mostly lasting, good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, chocolate, dark fruits, liquour, herbs. Heavy sweet, light bitter, medium fruity sour. Finish is medium lasting roasty medium bittersweet, medium alcohol warmth. Full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation. Quite heavy, strong flavor, too much alcohol is present, and too sweet for me, not bad though.
4.4(Bottle)
Aroma:punch of vanilla,bourbon,coconut and roastiness.
Appearance:very dark brownish color, small quickly disappearing head.
Taste:sweet,flavour of vanilla,bourbon,sweet chocolate and coffee,sweet chocolate-like finish,roasty and chocolate aftertaste.
Palate:light side of full body,low carbonation,oily texture.
Overall:Best De Molen I have tried so far.
3.6Back on Ratebeer! Bottle at home. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, heavy bourbon, heavy roasted malts, soy, licorice, hints of coffee, lots of umami. Taste is soy and salt, vanilla, bourbon, licorice, raisins, heavy roasted malts. Smooth mouthfeel, but this is too heavy roasted for my taste.
3.5Süßer Cognacgeruch, sehr dominant. Antrunk Holzfaß, süß. Danach Cognac, Malz, Toffee, Schokolade, bitter abgehend. Sehr gut.
4.0Bottled. The aroma has bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and some earth. Black coloured beer with an off-white beige head. The taste is light bitter and sweet, has bourbon, some vanilla, light roast, chocolate. Medium bodied beer. Good.
4.1Bottle at Hair of the Dog, Bangkok. Poured a clear medium brown with a bubbly round light tan head. The aroma is rich sweet bourbon malt. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth oily rich, sweet malt, yeast, light sugary alcohol bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation.
3.4Dark, cream head. Touches of chocolate, raisins, dry bread and strong bourbon taste, a bit too much for me. High percentage alcohol.
A decent one from the Molen, but not their best.
3.9Bottle in Portland. Thanks Alberto! No head. Deep brown sugar. Mirin, prune, great depths. Soft carbonation, almost no carb. Tart alc over top. Ridiculous. Tasty, deep. Very nice.
3.5Very dark brown pour, minimal tan head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, prune, raisins, grapes, and bourbon. Taste follows, boozy and sweet. Nice but not amazing.
4.0Bottle from De Caginy. Dark brown body with a small offwhite head. Bourbon, dark fruit, vanilla, roasted malt, chocolate, maple syrup. Soft mouthfeel. Great.
