3.4Bottle given as a gift from Matt at Capones. Cloudy pale orange with off white head. Orange and lemon zest, overripe fruit, wheat, not much brett. Moderate carbonation and body, apples and a bit sweet with some mild funk, becomes dry, more fruit on the ending along with more grains.
3.3Bottle 750ml
Aroma sweet fruity , apple like aroma. Sweet honey like. Softness of wheat, slightly fruity backing. Hint of salt.6+
Appearance murky, hazy amber brew with medium top.3+
Flavor and Palate : Fruity, tart apple, starchy, earthy. Bitter-sweet mid. Funky hint of smoke with lighter woody hints. Slightly herbal at finish. Wheat side on top end.
2.6This ends up with a low rating from me because it is described as a golden on the bottle and simply isn't. Pours dark orange, hazy. No head and flat (old bottle). Yeasty apple aroma. Mes bodied and tastes of apples and lemons. Nothing golden here
3.9Bottle... Poured hazy, golden/burnt orange with a thin head that dissipated quickly. Nose was super funky with a lot of brett and wet socks aromas. Nice body, dry and well carbonated. Lots of acidity and tartness with apple-like, light fruits, tropical fruits, and malt sweetness.
3.6Hazy amber orange capped by silky white head. Nose and mouth full of funk and horse hairs. Alchohol kick adds to the fun.
3.4Bottle. Have seen this on the shelves many times and wanted to try it, so I finally did it. Pours hazy amber with a white soapy head that fades to a soapy film and shows some lacing. Aroma has a nice lemon leather and grassy like scents along with some musty sugars/funk. Taste is bitter and slightly funky maybe a little sour, but more farmhouse and funkiness leather and grassy hay like flavors. Palate is medium with a strange stickiness and drying finish. Definitely a good drinker, but don’t go into this
one thinking your about to drink a real sour brew. This one is a true wild ale!
4.3The aroma would have me believe that this is the funkiest beer in the world, but the taste proves otherwise as the Brett tang is downplayed and subordinated to a lemony sweetness and a healthy, bready body. Funk throughout, but subtle.
3.9750ml bottle. Hazy amber orange. Aroma of spicy yeast, light brett and rich malt. The flavor is a lot less sour than the aroma would indicate, lots of maltiness with some light hop bitterness and tartness in the finish. Medium body with average carbonation and a dry mouth feel. Pretty good beer, drinks very easy and hides the abv well
4.0Bottle from marcus. Nice sour. Has the typical cherry sour smell. Color is light brown copperish. Great sour.
4.8Poured from draft at back country in Boulder, CO. This beer was amazing! Fruity pear and pineapple with an earthy herbal hop finish.
3.5Draft pour on tap at Bavarian Lodge (Lisle, IL). An exciting find. Pours a rich dulled golden amber hue, some deeper orange glow and a frothy whitish head sits atop, bigger with solid lacing. Aromas are a plethora of funky brett, lemons, and touches of berries, faint cranberry, straw, and bready malts. Gentle funk and gentle spiciness picks up, currants and gentle kisses of cobwebs and barnyard. Gets a bit more life as it warms, picking up more sour fruits. Initial is mellow and medium bodied, touches of berries and lemons mix gently up front. Gentle bretty funk, dust, and cobwebs mingle with bready malts, touches of spice, gentle yeast, and fruity qualities. Touches of apple, pear, and some more gentle sourness. Subtle sourness as brett takes the lead with the bready malts, gentle spice. Middle and finish dry up more, bretty funk and gentle fruits. Brett starts to dry firmly and really integrates well with the fruit, both tart berries and apple/pear sweetness, gentle sourness makes it’s appearance up front but definitely tapers out in the finish. Firm, funky, and pretty nice. Not as sour as I’d hoped, but the wild yeast works well enough here. Interesting, dry finish. Looks gorgeous overall. Flavors come in and out for me. A firm hopping provides synergy for the dry bretty finish. Not bad.
2.7Bottle (rated sometime in 2009).
Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, white, fully lasting.
Body is hazy light amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain, cereal, husks), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot), moderately yeasty (mold, barnyard), with notes of cheese, plastic, vinegar, cotton candy.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Looks great, but sports the usual dirty Proef nose.
3.6Very clean and backseat malt and hops. Very smooth with a nice sourness ending with a small kick of tartness. Correct carb, 90% clear, aroma is a bit absent but what is there is quite nice. A nice presence of mild wildness before the clean sour.
3.4OnOndraft at Capone’s. Pours a golden straw color with some head that leaves sticky lacing. Nose is yeasty brett. First zip is nice with just the right amount of malt slight sour finish with a slight bitterness.
3.3Location: Draft at RnH, 8/8/11
Aroma: The nose is fairly subtle, some yeast, apple, and honey notes
Appearance: It pours a cloudy golden color with a lacey white head
Flavor: The taste is sort of sweet, slightly tart, and with a mild sourness to it
Palate: This on has a light-medium body to it with a decent mouthfeel
Overall Impression:
Overall, I thought this was a solid beer, but it didn’t really have a ton of sourness to it, I was expecting more. It wasn’t bad though.
3.2On tap at RnH w/ Andy James Streets. Opaque amber pour with minimal white head, zero lacing on glass. Smells of sea salt??? Reminds me of the ocean. Subdued, not a huge fruit/acid aroma, which made me excited b/c I thought the taste would be surprisingly sour/aggressive, but it was not. A little funky but lacking in tartness. Enjoyable.
3.2Draft at Rattle n Hum with Linh, Thi and Vi. Reading the description of this beer shed some light on the flavor - as this brew tasted closer to a golden ale than a sour. Pours a hazy cloudy orange. Aroma is slight tart, wheat, somewhat bland. Mouthfeel is lightly acidic and tart.
3.4Draft. Amber with an off white head. On the bland side for a sour ale. Some honey sweetness and light funk, along with toast and lighter fruity notes on a pale malty base. Not bad.
3.2On tap. This reminded me of RR Damnation. It’s bready, honey-like and yeasty. Oh, and it’s pretty sweet. I didn’t get much bret at all in this one. It’s just a run of the mill Belgian golden ale.
4.1On tap at Capone’s. Surprisingly good sour ale. Bret is well represented in this beer.
3.7@dstructos Daks Back-bottle-pours a white head and gold color. Aroma is fruity, light/medium malt-sweet. Taste is fruity, yeast, light/medium malt-sweet. 3.7
3.3Bottled 750ml (PBF)
Hazy murky brown color, small white head. Sour bretta aroma with some caramel underlying. Medium-bodied. White pepper, fruityness, caramel and sour bretta notes. Quite standard, yeasty, sour ale.
3.0Bottled (thanks after4ever!). Amber colour, small slightly off-white head. Aroma is spices, yeast, some herbs and mild maltyness. Flavour is spices, some mild fruityness, alcohol as well as some maltyness.
3.8Bottle shared at Dstructo/Daknole tasting. Dark murky color, brownish. Honey aroma with hints of lemon tartness. Sour funk in the flavor. Delicious.
3.3On tap at Haute Dish, pours nice and hazy with white head. Aroma has notes of funky barnyard, some lemon, bread and biscuit, some spicy yeast. Taste has some fruit notes with pear, peach, tangerine, some slight funk and barnyard qualities, finishing with some bready sweetness and a dry finish.
3.8On tap; pour is murky gold with a terrific pillowtop head that retains fairly web; cobweb lacing in this tulip. Slight Barnyard aromas on the nose, with cream, citrus, pear. What an interesting brew, for sure. Pineapple, mild funk, florals, cream, a slight astringent character, hay, and lemon rind. Very impressed
3.5Sour lighty barnyardy aroma , flavor is simple clean and crisp, lighty tart at the beginning and fades fast
4.2On tap at Pizza Port OB. Absolutely beeeeyoooootiful nose. Tart funk and wild brets and pineapple and omfg. Taste is same and more. Lemon and tart and yeasty goodness and I want a keg of it.
3.3pours a murky but clear dark straw, no head, not the best looking thing... sweet nose with flowers and yeast, no brett... the taste is also very sweet, a sweet pale with some yeast, again not much brett, very drinkable but too sweet for me
4.2Cloudy orange with decent, creamy, white head / Nose of orange, cream, and barnyard funk / Medium to full body, sweet, sour and somewhat syrupy, malty, with good, lush, finish / Flavors of orange, curacao, cloves, caramel, resin, hay, and a light dose of barnyard funk / Well made, but a little heavy in the body, much like a big hefe.
