De Ranke XXX Bitter

De Ranke XXX Bitter

Brewed especially for the Shelton Brothers “The Festival” 2013 in Portland, ME.

Limited kegs and 75cl bottles productions. Not to be confused with the regular XX Bitter.

XXX-Bitter is a variation on the existing XX-Bitter, where we add an additional 50% more hops. Taste: Full-bodied bitter beer. Despite its higher IBU-value, the large amount of aroma-hops makes this beer taste smoother than XX. Bottle conditioned.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, sugar, hops (Brewers Gold, Hallertau Mittelfrüh), yeast.

3.6 BXL Beer Fest. Cloudy, loight amber color and a small white head. Nice bitterness ans Lovely hops
5.0 Thought it will be more bitter, but not, flowers, fruity, grass, very very fresh, great beer!

3.5 Lite bittert men gott. Finvädersöl :) vårlådan 2020
3.6 0,75l bottle. Pours hazy golden with huge white head. Hoppy and grassy with spicy notes. Some maltiness.
3.5 Shared with my family, a nice bitter with a light touch of spice, nothing too complex.
3.7 Bottle - 750ml. Beautiful, cloudy golden body with a thin, lasting, white foamy/creamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with grassy, coriander, and grainy hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries malty, spruce, and grainy notes. Ends with a long bitter/resinous finish. Good stuff.
4.0 (Bottle) Golden colour with lasting, frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with grain, bread, grass, marzipan and herbal hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with bread, grain, grass, herbal hops, some marzipan, hints of yeast and generous amounts of grassy/herbal hops in quite a bitter finish. Medium body, mainly dry. Quite bitter, with lots of herbal and grassy hops. Still really drinkable and well balanced. Elegant and quite an excellent beer.
4.0 Hazy gold, limited head but lasting lacework. Aroma of grassy hops. Taste is bitter but smooth, with lots of underlying yeast bite.
3.6 Bottle. Golden pour. Aroma of bitter grassy hop, dry yeast and malt. Taste has yeast ester, dry peppery yeast, grassy hop and malt. Nice dry bitter finish. Good beer, the natural ingredients give a nice flavor.

3.7 Tap @ 't Brugs Beertje, VIII 2019. Goeie bitter licht zurig, beetje zoetig licht fruitig en redelijk hoppig van smaak. Licht zurig hoppig geurend en droog. Wazig geel witte schuimkraag. Origineel glas
4.0 Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of huge dry hoppy notes with some herbal and grassy notes which is very enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by grassy hoppy notes with some herbal notes with some hay notes and a dry finish. Body is pretty full for style with good carbonation. I loved the hoppy profile which is very different then what you get from American style IPAs.
3.7 Bottle@cbh. Yellow cloudy. Grassy, bit herby hoppy old hoppy nose, pale malty, belgy peppercorny. Med bodued, med k tense, nice flavourful malty apicy flavour. Real nice.
3.7 75cl Bottle @ Belgiuminabox.com, Antwerpen, Belgium. Hazy golden colour with a medium size white head. Aroma is hops, citrus, pine, yeast, slightly malty. Taste is hops, citrus, grass, yeast, spices, malt, sweet. Medium body, average carbonation.
4.0 Bottle 0.75l at home. 22.04.2019. Pour it clear golden color with medium white head. Aroma grassy fresh hoppy note. Taste start with medium bitterness, some floral.note, lighy sweetness, perfectly balanced. Good brew, really nice!
3.9 Hazy straw yellow, tall white fluffy head. Nose: spicy hop, spicy yeast, pear. Medium minus body. Taste: pretty dry, hoppy, with a fair amount of spicy Belgian yeast. Medium plus bitterness. Nicely done.
3.8 Bottle. Color: Clear golden, dense white head. Aroma: Floral hoppy. Taste: Medium to over medium floral hopbitterness, moderate sweet, surprisingly smooth and somewhat fruity mouthfeel. Hints of caramel and honey. Very bittery palate at finish. Very nicely balanced. Over medium body, below average carbonation. Very nice beer.
4.0 Proefglas tijdens avondcursus biefstukken herkennen. Absoluut bitter. Bijzondere afdronk. Heel lang durende bittere nasmaak.
4.1 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with light head. Fresh floral, piney hops dominate the aroma. Oily, fresh citrus, mild resiny hops, honey, sweet breads. Long dry bitter palate. Cool how it's like a classic Belgian ale crossed with a hoppy almost British style IPA. Dig it. It has been a while since I had the XX, not sure which I preferred, but both were nice.
3.5 750ml bottle bought at HKBWEX in Mong Kok. Looks: Clear golden orange colour with a ring of dirt-like yeast sediments; Two finger head with crumpety white foam which lasts for 4 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with fizzy carbonation. Aroma: Fragrant full Pils malt, with peaches, apricots, yellow fruits, floral, sugar, spices, wood, resins, dry bread, Bel yeast, lemon and grass. Taste: Medium sweet full Pils malt, with apricots, yellow fruits, floral, sugar, spices, pine, strong resins, dry biscuits, strong Bel yeast, strong lemon, very strong bitter hops and very sharp grass. Body: Medium body. Dry, slick and very oozy palate. Mouth Feel: Rich Pils maltyness in a solid background. Quite notable yellow fruits and apricots forms the back drop, with very sharp but smooth hop bitterness and strong Bel yeast took the centre stage. Flowery with medium sweetness. Spicy, very oozy biscuity with strong lemon to round. Quite nice but... Hoppiness: Peaches, apricots, yellow fruits, floral, spices, wood, resins, lemon and grass in nose. Yellow fruits, floral, spices, pine, strong resins, strong lemon, and very sharp grass in taste; Bitterness is very strong for a lasting, very high astringent bitter-sweet full malty finish. After Taste: Very dry. Grassy oozy and very bitter to mouth. Comments: This one boosts more hops than XX Bitter, but does it fare better? The massive hopping features expressive oozy and smooth hop bitterness, but at the expense of XX's delicate fruity and herbal hop characters. Here, the nice blackcurrant and mint from XX are nowhere to be found, all I get is blurry, non-descript apricots and yellow fruits. Make no mistake, this is a decent Ale, and I think bitter heads will love it, but I don't think it surpasses the classic XX.
