De Ryck Christmas Pale-Ale

De Ryck Christmas Pale-Ale

Since 1965, An De Ryck has been brewing a slightly stronger beer in the traditional pale ale style to
celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The use of caramel malt determines the colour and taste of this
beer.

3.5 Creamy beige head left stayed on a dark mahogany coloured still body. Malt, spice & demerara aroma. Medium bodied, sparkling on the palate with a clean effervescent back. Dark berry, spices, malt, woody & liquorice tastes with a slightly tangy finish.
3.4 13/10/2018 - small tasting glass as "Arend Winter" shared with rubin77 and some friends @Bles Bierhappening, Zottegem. Red brown, big light tanned head. Nose is malts, caramel. Taste is malts, caramel, low on spices. Not bad but expected a bit more from a winter beer.
3.4 F: medium, tan, average retention. C: dark coppery, clear. A: caramel malty, herbal, fruity, bit toast. T: malty backbone, fruity, decent bitterness, toasted tones, caramel, dry on the palate, medium body and carbonation, good one, sample from bottle as “Arend Winter” shared with Bierridder_S and his friends @ 25th Bierhappening on Saturday 13/10/2018 in Zottegem.
3.0 Van tap tijdens Winterbierfestival in Hoogeveen als De Ryck Arend Winter Zoet, beetje cassisachtig, kruidig, citrus, vanille. (12-2013).
3.5 7 3 7 3 15 Draft at Kafé Belgie, Utrecht. Clear amber brown with an off white head. Aroma of caramel, malt and ripe dark fruits. Flavour is above moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
3.2 Thanks for sharing! Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ Kerstbierfestival 2017 as Arend Winter. Amber brown tanned head, fine bubbles. Nose is spice cloying BE esters, hand soap, unpleasant caramel. Taste I hand soap, fizzy, chemical, low carb caramel sludge syrup, chemical,… I don’t know what I had some hope of me liking this beer beforehand.
2.3 Drank as arend winter. Pours clear dark amber. Small white head. Smell is weak, mild Spice. Taste is bit bitter, dry, very metallic .
3.0 Ann De Ryck’s classic Christmas beer with deep amber colour and off-white, thinnish head. Fruity aroma, apple, orange, coriander, caramel, with a certain sourishness; applish onset, a bit tart perhaps due to slight infection, orange peel, caramelly malts, thin mouthfeel, metallic, retronasal spiciness, finish mostly malty with low hoppiness. Interesting but lacks body and complexity for a Christmas ale.
2.0 Voor een winter bier een serieuze tegenvaller. Normaal moet er bij de winterbieren een goede uitgesproken smaak zijn, maar dat is hier niet het geval
2.7 Very sweet amber beer (or speciale belge). Has the usual caramalt and a metallic aftertaste.
2.9 33cl bottle @ home, from Geers Oostakker, as Arend Winter; orange, with small white head; high carbo; smell is low acidic, oranges, taste is a little acidic, orange peel, watery. Average.

3.4 Monthly Beerevents tasting @ Heidebrouwerij Clear amber colour, white disappearing head. Aroma and taste are spices, yeast, coriander, fresh sour apples. Ok body and nice carbo.

0.8 Bottle sampled @ Ekstedts tasting on December 2. Courtesy of Ekstedt. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Smell is malty with raisins and a strange smell that reminds me of urinal cakes. Taste is sour with prunes and hay. Makes me think of puss. Finish is similar to the taste. Incredibly vile. Most likely very infected.
1.2 Bottle (33 cl, one year out-of-date) from the Cracked Kettle. Clear copper, medium off-white head. Sourish unpleasant red berries aroma. Thin and watery. Very acidic. Shame on the Cracked Kettle for selling an out-of-date bottle, but a beer should not degrade this fast.
3.0 Clear amber coloured beer with small creamy withe head and only few carbonation. Fruity malty aroma. Finish is roasted sweet with bitter hints. Misses character to be a good christmas beer.
0.5 Sampled at Ekstedt’s Testing 11-12-02. Pours hazy brown with a big light brown head. Smells and tastes stale and urin blocks. Probably infected.

1.3 Bottle at ekstedt tasting on December 2, 2011 As the "Winter", BB Nov 2010(!?), bought recently though. Clear copper color, small tan head. Acidic, canned strawberries scent. Acidic, metallic, unripe red currants taste. Very thin mouthfeel, low bitterness. Finishes dry.

3.2 Bottle. Dark amber, cloudy, rushes out from the bottle, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Light to moderate, malty and lightly sweetish and sourish aroma, fruitiness with light spiciness. Body is light to medium, malty and dryish flavor, some spiciness and light fruity sourness. Finish is average, malty and dry, some spiciness and sourness. Nice one - but bit thin body, not too much spiciness.
