3.3Bottle thrown in as an extra in a trade with SuzyGreenberg. Thanks! Pours a hazy amber with a thin tan head. Nice hop aroma. A little thin on the palate, but a nice hop flavor. Seems like there should be a little more malt flavor. Overall, a nice ESB.
3.7Great looking amber color with an off white head that adds a creamy texture to the overall experience. Malt body is decent with a nice sweetness and caramel flavor added in. Aroma is surprising with a little bit of citrus. The overly bittered up english style here is much more reminiscent of an american hop profile but I like it. The hop flavor profile is sticky pine on the finish with a bit of citrus mid palate. From my new friend out west. Thank you.
3.2Cask Stillage at the GBBF, Earl’s Court 03/08/2010
Fruity aroma. Amber coloured a little rich on the palate and strong in alcohol with a hint of dryness in a bitter malt finish.
3.1bottle, slightly bitter taste with not much else interesting to note. Faintly orangeish color
3.2Reddish gold, thin off-white head. Very faint aroma, malty. Malt-forward and then a big hit of bitterness, slight dark cherry note on the finish. Low carbonation and light body.
3.1From cask. Pours clear and golden deep amber with a bubble white head. Aroma is mild hoppy and fruity. Sweet and wooden malty, caramelish, slight breadish. Bitter and dry into a mild wooden and flat caramelish malt finish.
3.8Very nice amber orange color, foamy beige head. Aroma of mild caramel grain and floral hops. Taste has a perfect balance of malt and hop with a medium body and a short lingering bitterness. Very well done and at $6.50 a sixer it’s a go to beer anytime.
3.8Bottle from Ben (aka SuzyG...). Pours amber with a foamy 4 finger beige head. Aroma is floral over mildly roasted caramel. Medium body; pretty foamy carbonation. It is hoppy. Floral, not harsh or super bitter. It’s very hoppy. The guys over the pond might die, but I think this is the way ESB should be. Been looking for this for a long time. Worth the wait.
3.612 oz bottle from Fred Meyer - Not much in the way of aroma, but the taste is quite good. Hoppiness without a ton of bitterness. Very good balance. Quite a good beer.
3.3Bottle. Clear amber, off-white head. Aroma and flavour of toffee, tea, and quince. Mildly bitter finish. Solid, but nothing to freak outabout.
3.2Bottle at Cloisters tasting ... copper ... soft american hop fruits ... little creamy nose ... soft fruits ... malts ... light toasted oats ... light hop linger.
3.3(bottle - 12 oz) Chestnut brown color with a thin off-white head. Sweet and malty aroma at the start with lightly nutty hint near the end. Some toffee as well. Sweet and bitter at the beginning of the flavor with the bitterness overpowering the malts very quickly. Peppery and very bitter hops in the middle of the flavor with a dry and peppery hop flavor that lingers on the palate. Nice but not very well balanced.
3.2Bottle. Golden brown with an off-white head. Aromas are caramel malts with some smoky notes. Some green pine hops. Flavours are sweet caramel malts with spicy hops. Yeasty with some citrus notes. Decent.
3.4Bottle. Dark brown beer with an orangey/reddish body and a light head. The aroma is rich and fruity hopped, and the flavour is rich and mildly hopped. Overall an average richly hopped beer.
3.312oz. Bottle: Aroma of malts, tea, hops, and a hint of caramel. Poured amber in color with small, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer. Hazy. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, light caramel, light piney hops, tea, and some grain. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, slightly bitter, malt, hop, and light tea finish is a tad dry and sticky.
3.6Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Amber hued with a frothy white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of EKG and Fuggles hops but a touch of fruity Cascade too, Maris Otter and Crystal malts, a touch of mineral water and lightly spicy yeast esters. The taste display a restrained hop bitterness balanced gently by the base pale and sweet malts. Reminds me of my homebrew but not a crisp and fresh. A bit of subdued fruity and earthy notes as well. The mouth feel is moderately carbonated and refreshing, a bit bready on the finish. A solid ESB that I only wish I could try on tap with better freshness.
3.312 oz bottle pours amber with little off white head into a pint glass. Aroma has a bit of spice, subdued hops and malts, bit earthy. Mostly earthy and bready to start which gives way to a slightly citruisy, bitter hop finish. Silky mouthfeel with low carbonation and light-medium body. Pretty damn drinkable. Not too shabby.
3.4Deschutes Brewery--Bachelor E.S.B.--Original Extra Special Bitter--2009 Release. 12 oz. Bottle. 5.30% ABV--50 IBU’s. 3.5 / 5.0. ESB Thin mild lace off white head. Clear pretty bright rich deep amber color. Delicate light toasted mild English hop front. Mellow sweet light caramel bisquit slightly earthy fruit hint body. Smooth mild hop spice light Bitter doughy English end. Sampled 1/1/2010. $6.99 / 6-Pack.
3.7Light caramel nose, full earthy hops. Reddish caramel, respectable white head. Starts off earthy enough and typical, a strawberry essence comes out in the finish. Really liked this.
3.5Had this and Deschutes Cascade Ale back-to-back . . . couldn’t tell the difference between them. I suppose my Beer God ststus will be revoked for that. Both beers were good though - enjoyable, lightly hopped thirst-quenchers.
3.1355ml bought at The USA bar, GBBF 09. Clear, dark orange coloured body. Fading off-white foam leaving fragile laceworks on the glass. Malt-fruity aroma. Spicy, leaf hoppiness in flavour along with sweet juicy malts. Crisp and soft in the mouth (hotel room, Earls Court 06.08.2009).
3.0Bottle from GBBF 09. Clear orange copper thin off white head. Moderate hoppy aroma, some malts in the mouth, but again it is oxidised and not as fresh as it could be. Yes some malt, and some not very good yeast flavour, but I’m guessing this is due to it not being very fresh.
3.312 oz bottle from the Beerhive in SLC. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium white head. The aroma is nice; loads of rich malts, some bananas, just loads of sweet malts. The flavor is similar; a huge malt presence, caramel and sweeter flavors. Loads of malt and light hops. Enjoyable.
3.8Smooth and refreshing with just a little bit of hop bite, boy do I ever love a good ESB!
3.712 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with ditmier. Pours a mostly clear darkened amber with a moderate-large, fluffy, off-white head that lasted until the last mouthful and left a complete ring of foam with each sip. Pleasant malty aroma along with just a hint of floral hops. The flavor is malt followed by medium hops bitterness at the finish. Happily, the hops bitterness is not overdone. This is a very solid and enjoyable ESB.
3.4Caramel color with fluffy off white head. Sweet malt aroma with fruit and hops. Taste starts bitter with a sweet malt base. This brew is medium-light bodied. Finishes bitter. Really good beer.
3.5At Sudwerk Beerfest 2009. This amber ale poured with a foamy tan head and a toffee aroma. There is a slightly chalky roasted malt flavor with a balanced hop bitterness and some spice. Not bad.
3.4bottled, pours medium amber body with small tan head, sweet malt aroma with mild spice and light floral hops, very mild sweetness up front with full malt flavor in middle with some lingering hop bitters, very nicely balanced
3.4Pretty good. Nice bitterness not too much to an IPA but still present, sweet and malty too. Good for the brewery.
3.8I’m getting quite a fruity profile from this - from the aroma to the finish. It’s nice. It’s also the beer by which to remember Uma Thurman in Henry & June (1990).
