Deschutes Black Butte Porter

Deschutes Black Butte Porter

With a dark beer as our first and flagship brand, Black Butte defined Deschutes as a radical player. A slight hop bitterness up front enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It’s prized for its creamy mouthfeel and intense complex flavors.

3.6 Nice dark porter with a creamy tan head. Smoky, roasted malt, notes of dark chocolate. Tasty porter.
3.6 This is the best beer so far from this brewery. Very nice very well put together beer. Typical porter flavors. Medium body. Low carbonation. Delicious finish!
3.4 0.355l lahvové zakoupeno přes nový internetový obchod americanbeer.cz. Nemůžu si pomoct, ale Američané zřejmě hodnotí svá piva výš než Evropané. Porter to nebyl vůbec špatný, ale na 3.75? To určitě ne.
3.2 Chocolate- smoke - roasted malt on the nose. Deep cherry brown color with tan head. Bittersweet chocolate Sup front with some roasted malt. Dry earthy bitterness. Slightly slick mouth feel... a bit on the tho side. Decent.
3.1 It pours dark brown and mostly translucent; the head is off-white and dissipates quickly. The aroma has notes of: burnt toast, brown sugar, charcoal, hazelnut skins, and minerality. The taste is medium bitter. The palate is light bodied; has medium carbonation; and a short finish. Overall, porters bore me - can't hack the subtly.
3.6 Pours black with a three finger, light tan head. Aroma is molasses, coffee and roast. Taste is brown sugar, moving to coffee and roast. Finish is brown sugar and coffee. Good porter.
3.2 I’ve seen this beer around for years. Never tried it although I have had a couple of years of the Deschutes imperial porters. Like those significantly. I located a single 12 oz bottle at my best craft beer shop and have it cooled off now. Lift the lid and pour into a Cowtown snifter. The arrival is a sturdy, dark brown with a decent representation of light tan foam that departs mostly. I smell chocolate, grain and field. The taste ultimately, I get light chocolate, cereal, berries and a small bitterness. I appreciate the depth of the higher abv brews, so this falls down in my estimation because of the thinness. My story and I’m sticking to it.
2.6 Smell was very dark roasted malt at first, but with time I get sweeter more molasses-y smell...taste is roasted malt with very medium mouthfeel...not watery or thick...bitterness is a bit more than I like but pretty milky and improves with time...had at Claddagh in asheville for Megan's birthday, with Megan and Sharon and a terrible bartender that gives 0 fucks..asks question then leaves! Lmao
3.3 Pours a dense black with a nice off white foam. Notes of coffee, dark cocoa and roasted nuts. Tastes malty with all of those notes thrown in with some hops and caramel. It's a light porter, with a light yet complex bitter sticky finish.
3.1 Good quality porter.
3.7 Aroma : Roasty dark chocolate malt, single esspresso coffee, hint of smoky burnt wood with an earthy hoppy note. Taste : As aroma. Moderate roasty bitterness throughout. Heavier smoother body than a 'traditional porter' i.e. quite stout like. Really good!
3.6 I used to like this beer much more but I guess times Change. The Aromas are dark malt, toast, cocoa, molasses and a bit of licorice. Flavors are very much like nose, bittersweet, aggressive carbonation which doesn't really help I think. Still a decent beer.
3.5 12oz bottle at Ariza Room, Grand Canyon, AZ on 14/04/2008. It’s a smooth, dark malt aroma heavy beer with nice body and roasty finish. Had it a lot, and always liked it. The first Oregon brewed beer of my trip? Definitely not the last!

3.5 Bottle. Part of Xmas gift mixed 6 so location unknown. Very dark, opaque. Somewhat roasty aroma with a hint of malt. Very good. A bit thin/weak for one but mostly tastes like a porter should.

3.2 Malty chocolatey aroma. Dark brown body, light brown head. Weak taste. Weak palate. So-so overall.
3.8 Tap @ Deschutes taproom, Bend. Pours clear deep brown, small off-white head. Aroma has liquorice nods, dark malt. Taste is liquorice-forward, distant chocolate, fairly light bodied, easy-drinking, gentle coffee hints. Nice flavourful, light porter.
4.3 Bottle. Dark brown body, small beige head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, fig jam, oak, leather, burned caramel and toffee. Taste of burned caramel, lava chocolate cake, herbs, rye toast and vanilla beans. Flavorful!

4.2 From a can to a glass. Pours a clear dark brown color with a big frothy creamy head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, molasses; roasted malts, slight earthy hops, slight dark fruits, slight bready malts. Taste follows the aroma well with a medium mouthfeel. Very tasty!
3.5 Six-pack from LCBO, I have to pick up any beer from this brewer, as their reputation is excellent. This one is a bit tame (compared to the imperial ones), yet, not bad.
4.3 Bottle from Walgreens. Not much aroma like any porters, deep dark in color. It is full-bodied and refreshing with not much bitterness, but I can feel how strongly roasted it has been.
5.0 This is the beer that started it all. A rich, creamy mouthfeel complements a layered depth, revealing distinctive chocolate and coffee notes. Full of flavor, yet easy to drink.
3.7 Bottle bought from Cool Wine in Hobart. Pours deep brown with ruby highlights. Thick tan head with good hold. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and light toast. Heavier toasted characters on the palate, with dark chocolate and a hint of dried fruit.
3.9 Great porter funny name carmel chochlatey smmoth dark
3.7 Very Dark copper, clean, Ivory BeerHead with frothy, fine and thin foam. Good persistency. Clear chocolate, coffee and vanilla hints on the nose. Medium sweetness, Medium body, Medium bitterness, Light-Medium Carbonation. Beautiful chocolate, dark caramel and coffee flavor on the taste. Also having malty-richness and slightly toasty bread crust hints. Little fruity flavors from caramel malts. Clean fermentation, Dry in the finish. High drinkability and highly enjoyable beer.
4.1 Pours dark reddish brown with a thick tan head. Strong aroma of watered malt. Taste has rich creamy notes of coffee and chocolate. Palate has the most subtle element of hops and a fascinating sweetened note that is almost imperceptible. Fantastic porter, absolutely indicative of style.
3.9 Dark brown, smooth, drinkable porter. Not too heavy on flavour or alcohol, just enough to keep you warm on a chilly Oregon night.
