Deschutes Black Butte XXVI

Deschutes Black Butte XXVI

Our 26th anniversary imperial porter was aged in bourbon barrels and dry spiced with theo chocolate’s cocoa nibs, revealing hints of vanilla and chocolate. Pomegranate molasses and Oregon cranberries complement the robust flavor with a hint of fruits and just enough tart to make you smile. Note:- Best After date can be found stamped on the left-hand side of the label.

4.0 Bottle shared at a tasting at Tom L’s place. Thanks Excellent Little Brother! Black with a tan head. A little smoky, woodsy, some vanilla and roasty aroma, lots of chocolate, vanilla, sweetness and some alcoholic taste. Full body, smooth, slight fizz, lots of vanilla finish.
4.5 From 22iz bottle to snifter. Pour is a dark brown, thick beige head that dissipates quickly. Nose is big roasted malt, cherries, chocolate, vanilla, light coffee. Taste is sweet, heavy bodied. Finishes very silky. Great complexity.
4.1 Aromas of cherry, cranberry, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, toasted oak, booze. Black with a fairly lasting beige head. Sweet, boozy, oaky, earthy. Full bodied.
3.4 6/13/15 Bottle date. Musty alcohol on the nose. Hints of bitter chocolate, burnt brown sugar, and a whiff of vanilla. Ebony with nice deep tan head. Very sweet up front. Acidic dark berry flavors mixed in with dark chocolate malty notes. Bitterness is hidden by acidic tones from cranberries. Musty almost sour jolt comes next. Slightly slick mouth feel. Finish is mostly sour, with alcohol burn. Nice and warm and well made but not my cup of tea.
4.0 Deep brown-black-amber color with sudsy off-white head. Soft texture. Smooth roast moderately sweet with light fruity notes. Notes: On tap at Aces & Ales (Nellis) Winter Beer Fest ’17
3.9 Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla and dark fruits. The taste was similar to the aroma with more bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, molasses, and some spices. It had a real nice warm aftertaste. Really good.
4.5 Bomber. Black with heavy particulate and a light brown foamy head. Molasses, cranberry, raspberry, light smoky bourbon, wood and dark chocolate. Has a dark chocolate medium sweetness followed by the dry bourbon and finishes lightly tart. Very balanced yet complex. Heavier body with a syrupy feel.
3.7 Poured from a 22 oz bottle. Aroma is dark and fruity with lots of chocolate and lighter roast notes. Some hints of tobacco and leather with some bourbon notes and light oak. Fairly fruity with cherry, plum, berry and prune. Light alcohol spice. Pours dark brown to black with a medium large, thick, dark tan head that recedes slowly to a thin film that lingers thicker and creamier on the edges. Moderate lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of chocolate and fruit. Lighter roast notes, tobacco and leather. Light oak and bourbon notes. Fairly fruity which adds some sweetness with some berry, cherry, plum and prune. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low to medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, I guess this might be a better beer than I was expecting, but its still fairly odd. Fruity and chocolate forward with some light tartness.
3.7 Black, beige head, aroma of chocolate, coffee, caramel, wood, toffee, flavor of chocolate, coffee, wood, caramel, sour, dry, wood, coffee, medium+ bodied.

4.5 Thank you Maakun. 650 ml. bottle sampled @ Pre-Borefts Ratebeer Tasting 2016. Black with mocha bubbles. Nose is thick warming molasses, quite boozy, syrupy with low vanilla. This sweet molasses taste with low smoke, woody, very faint fruits, thick warming syrupy consistency syrupy, brown sugar, low licorice. Lovely, thick, massive. Very good.
3.4 Bottle shared @ Borefts Pre-tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, raisins, bourbon, sweet, a slight touch of red fruits, quite some alcohol, lightly fruitpeel tart. Medium body, firm carbonation. Hmm ok but not as good as I had hoped.
3.7 Sampled @ Pre-Borefts-Tasting 2016. Dunkel braune Farbe, mittelgroße bräunliche Schaumkrone. Geruch schokoladig süß, reife rote Früchte. Geschmack süß kräftig malzig, Karamell, Schokolade.
2.8 Süßlich malziger, eher herb trockener Beginn. Wenig würzig, die starken Aromen sind disharmonisch. Nicht so meins. 10/8/7/8/9/8
4.4 Bottle. Black color with beige head. Aroma is prunes and figs, lots of oak sugar, chocolate, cocoa. Taste is cocoa, cranberries, more oak sugar. Slightly tart finish. Rich, complex, with a nice tartness. Extremely good!
4.0 Bottle at Pre-Borefts. Very dark brown with beige head. Licorice, ash, lots of toffee, there some sweet vanilla bourbon but it’s mostly sweet malts, marzipan. There’s some fruit but more in the background. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Over medium bodied with slick feel.
4.1 Bottle at pre borefts 2016 tasting... Dark black... Thick tan head.. Soft rich chocolate roast.. Dark heavy meaty roast malts.. Dark black.. Heavy fruit.. Ricj chocolate and rich Berries..
3.7 Black Butte XXVI Bottle; Pour is murky brown, with a modest khaki head into this snifter. It retains on the average / below average side of things, with some sticky lacing presence. The nose is cocoa and molasses, with some dark fruit presence, like currants. The flavor profile reveals bakers chocolate, light roast elements, moving to a clearer dark fruit presence thanks to the cranberry additions. Pomegranate molasses is a new one for me - anyway - it’s quite nice, overall. But perhaps too fruit forward. Feint vanilla - but perhaps no discernible bourbon presence. Anyway - An oldie - with a fresh take.
4.6 Bomber. Pours very dark brown but not totally pitch black. Cranberries really come through on the nose along with cacao. Full bodied and chocolaty. The fruitiness helps cut through the richness of the beer. Glad this had a few years on it as it isn’t hot at all. Delicious and interesting.
4.0 Bottle at Smoke and Barrel courtesy of Ajax25g, thanks! Black color, beige head. Aroma of chocolate and licorice. Taste is candied chocolate covered raspberries. Delicious.
3.9 Chocolaty and rich. Plenty of alcohol makes the beer slick. Very dark pour. Aromas of candied orange peel and cocoa. A little tart on the finish.
3.8 Bottle. Pours a vert dark brown. Aroma and taste are roasted malts, dark fruits, bourbon, and chocolate.
3.9 Pours deep tannish brown with a small beige head. Smells of chocolate and tart fruit. Taste is fruity, chocolate, hints of wood and booze. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Deschutes Black Butte XXVI finishes with a lingering fruity sweetness.
4.1 Deep dark colour with cola highlights and large mocha head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, leather, cherry, dark chocolate, lots of booze. The taste reflects the smell, with plenty of tart cranberry and molasses notes as well. Nice bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, boozy and decadent. Fantastic sipper.
3.9 Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Alon. Black with a tan head. Aroma of roast, a bit of charcoal, vanilla, dark fruits, cocoa, chocolate. Sweet and slightly tart flavor with roast, chocolate, berries, a bit of bourbon, a bit of pomegranate, vanilla, and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Full-bodied. Great.
3.7 It pours dark brown with a good sized tan head. The aroma has cream, vanilla, chocolate, molasses, licorice oak and alcohol. It has a smooth rich body with a lot of soft carbonation. It starts with rich full roasted porter malt, sharp fruit, dark chocolate and more alcohol. The finish has more sharpness and some astringency. Good.
4.4 This is one of the beers I buy multiples of each year to age and vertical and it never disappoints. This pours almost completely black with a minimal amount of tan head that disappeared quickly. The smell is vanilla upfront but you get some barrel and booze at the end. The flavor follows suit but mixes in a little chocolate and licorice. The feel is syrupy with carbonation, perfect for the style. I highly recommend this beer!
4.3 The pallet is very smooth throughly. This was tasted by the Cannery Row Beer Club. Cheers!
