3.3 Amber color, thin white head. Fruity nose. Taste is wet hair at first mixed with malt and a fruit sweetness at the end.
3.2 Esters full on the nose: dusty and earthy with fresh toasted bread crust and slightly moldy (but good). Fresh, bright, slightly sweet up front but turns sour and tart in the finish, not good. Moderately frothy texture over the middle but falls apart in the finish.
2.8 Pours a light brown, similar to weak coffee. Strong beige head leaves plenty of tracing behind. Unfortunately it looks a bit like a rootbeer float. Sweet smelling with a slight note of malt. Caramel in taste, light hops, ends with a slight bitter finish. Good daily beer to have on hand.
3.3 Bottle from Pizza Port bottle shop: Fruity aroma of banana and pear with a sweet base of malts. Poured thick fluffy foam while the ale was a standard color of brown. The flavor was also a fruity taste with a strong yet pleasant amount of sweetened malt presence. This was a bolder attempt at the brown ale style but I doubt I could have made this a session beer, and I think one twelve ounce bottle was enough to get an idea of this beer.
3.0 This is now the 5th one I’ve consumed (out of a 6-pack)... pours a nice rust-brown color with a coarse tan head that leaves behind some sticky lacing. Aromas are pretty light, but hint at caramel, roasted grains, and a bit of nuttiness. The flavors are much more intense--more caramel malt and roasted grain, a slight hint of some acidic, earthy, green-tasting hops. The mouthfeel was pretty light-to-medium-bodied but that made it more drinkable. Good stuff, but not the best brown ale ever.
2.2 Color is a bright amber with good carbonation and a thin tight head. Aroma is a sweet toasted caramel scent. Taste is sweet and hoppy. Starting with a lighter medium body it goes down crisp with a sweetness coming on. Finish come out with a light caramel sweetness some floral hop flavors then just a faint touch of bitterness. After taste is more candy sweetness rolling over what little bitterness there was. Its like drinking one of those candy necklaces. Overall its just too sweet and unbalanced.
3.5 $6 six pack on sale (score). Brown-red in color and translucent. Short white head that relaxes into bubbles. Smells like a standard brown, malty. Tastes like an english beer, not bad at all. This is a pretty good beer but I am no expert when it comes to brown ales. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-23-2009 00:48:30
3.5 courtesy of screamforme. pour a deep red-copper with beige head. Aroma of nice floral hops / blossom and a fruity aroma that reminded me of raspberries without the tart. Taste is light, malty and hoppy, light touch of caramel. Yeast comes forward with faint touch of nuts. Finish is light, crisp, some bitterness and caramel. Good beer, sessionable.
3.3 Has a nice clear red-brown color, and a small head that dissipates quickly. Nice sweet caramel aroma with a little bit of fruit as well. Flavor is a bit lacking. Tastes like malt, sugar and carbonated water. Mouthfeel is average, light bodied, and fizzy. Overall, this is drinkable, but not very exciting.
3.5 APPEARANCE: Pours an amber brown color with a large tan head that dissipates at an average rate. Moderate lacing. AROMA: Caramel and toasted malt. Hint of cocoa. FLAVOR: Toasted malt and brown sugar. Finishes with a bit of earthy hops. MOUTHFEEL: Light to medium body beer. Soft carbonation. DRINKABILITY: A very easy drinking smooth beer. A would like a bit more flavor. It is also a bit disjointed for me. The sweet malts and bitterness don’t meld together well. NOTES: BBCSD-0902-Carl
3.3 desde portland una de las que traje para continuar probando mi estilo favorito de birria. esta tiene un leve sabor a ceniza y no mucho hops
3.1 Deep copper pour with tan head and lace. Caramel malt and earthy hops on the aroma. Light caramel and yeasty sourness, light semi sweet malt with a medium bitter followed by a hint of butter. Foamy medium bodied beer. Not special but easily drinkable.
3.1 12 oz Bottle. Pours a strange red hued brown with a good beige head. Nose is caramelly malts. Flavors are very watered down. Some caramel malt is about all to speak of. Just a simple brown ale here.
2.8 Local bottle. Really just boring overall. Nice looking beer but the flavour was very thin, just some roasted malt. Not bad, just nothing exciting.
2.9 12oz bottle-pours a dissipating tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet medium malt-caramel, roasty. Taste is buttery, secondary sweet medium malt-caramel, roasty/chocolate, some herbal/earthy hops, yeasty sour.
2.0 Blah. A boring and bland brown ale via trade with Chewy. Happy to try it, though. Aroma was weak. Mostly alcohol and medicine. Pour was a nice enough thin clear light brown with a one finger light tan head. Taste was thin and watery with not much flavor other than light alcohol and grains. Nice carbonation and would be a good session beer with more flavor. I would not expect to taste alcohol in a 4.*% beer.
3.4 Pours with a dark brown hue with no head whatsoever. Aroma is of dark fruits, soil, mocha, and some barley. Flavor is somewhat watery, smoky - there are some hints of barley and whole grains in the flavor as well. Light - medium mouthfeel with lively carbonation.
3.0 bottle..pours tan,amber body..hops,.maple..nuts.. nice tasty solid throughout..nice easy drink
3.4 Bottle. Pours with a tan head and an amber brown body. Good lace. Aroma of hops, vanilla, maple, nuts and light spice. Taste is nutty with maple and molasses. Light bubbles dryish. Solid like all of Deschutes’s stuff, but some what forgettable.
3.3 Aroma’s floral, color is light copper/brown. Initial taste has cascade hops and some light malty sweetness. All in all, not amazing - the malt isn’t special at all. But a tasty session beer nonetheless.
3.0 A very average brown, nothing too entirely special. Enjoyable, a little sweet, a bit nutty. I kind of wish there was something more to this beerso ypou
2.5 12 oz bottle. Pours a light brown with a creamy light tan head that retains well and laces the glass. The aroma is sweet roasted grains and cola. The flavor is sweet sugary nutty malts and cola, with some light acidic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a little sharp carbonation. Overall, I don’t really care for the sweet nutty browns.
3.1 A pretty good brown. Little bit of a bitter aftertaste. Long lasting head. Thumbs up...
3.3 Starts off with good sweetness, but picks up a thinness that leads to lager like flavors. Some metallic notes come through and stomp all over the mild malt. Going for greatness, but comes up short.
2.3 At a 3.3 RB average, this one is definitely overrated. We had come to expect better in micro craft. This is just average at best. But don’t take my word for it, blow the money yourself and discover its overwhelming bland average-ness and lack of memorable qualities (except for the fact of its being so unmemorable).
3.4 Bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a decent sized head. Some roasted malts and caramel tastes. Mild bitter aftertaste.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a dense 2 finger beige head that leaves nice lacing. The nose is roasted malt and mild toasted nuts. The taste is nutty with some light caramel chocolate and some light earthy hops in the finish. Light-to-medium body. Easy drinker, but a little boring.
4.3 For the sake of rating, I’m rating this beer against a southern English Brown Ale, because it won A silver medal in the English Brown Ale category in the 2008 World Beer Championships. Aroma- Very nutty/bready malty aroma. Plum esters are present, no hops in aroma. Appearance- A dark amber color with great clarity, even chilled, with a small but persistant tan head. Flavor- Fruity esters with a strong biscuit-like malt presence. It is not overbearing at all. There is a low-moderate hop bitterness with a low. earthy malt favor. There is a faint sour note in the flavor. Palate- Low to medium body with low carbonation. Overall- I read the style parameters of a Southern English Brown, and this was spot-on.
3.3 A - first whiff was malts but then a surprising deep hop aroma. Decent brown sugar and caramel flavors. Enticing nose. V - dark brown with a small half finger head. T - somewhat flat bitter taste.
2.6 Pours a light amber color with a thick brown head. Nose is of biscuits and malts. The hops really shine through in the tail end. One of the better brown ales i have had actually.
