Deschutes Cascade Ale

Deschutes Cascade Ale

Cascade Ale is crisp and refreshing. Generous herbal hop character and just a hint of caramel malt create a perfect balance.

3.2 Bottle @ GBBF, 2011. Pours cloudy golden with a small creamy head and lacings. Dry and hoppy. Grass, grain and citrus. Very malty. Hops could shine more through.
3.0 Bottle at Southwark Rose Hotel. Clear golden/amber - white head. Toasted notes, caramel, grassy, light bitterness, ok hoppy, herbal notes. A bit boring.
3.5 Crisp, malty aroma has a decided overtone of fresh apple. It pours a lovely clear golden amber with a thick, fluffy white head. Malty flavor has a fruity and slightly sweet undertone and a bit of yeast, as well as a slight, edgy metallic tang that actually adds to the flavor. Texture is rather fizzy and well-rounded, leaving a pleasing finish. Recommended to all lovers of golden ales.
3.3 On tap. Pours with a lightly hazed golden to orange hued body with a fluffy and lasting off-white head. Aromas are fruity, hoppy, citrusy, pine. Floral and lightly bready. Flavors are light, malty, tea like, citrus. A bit sweet overall and slightly bland. Medium bubbles with a light to medium body.
2.4 "Experimental Cascade" - I cannot remember what the difference was but I’d add my info anyway. Part of the 9hr epic solo drunkfest in Portland in Nov, 2010. Pint. Bright amber brew, clear, with a small off white cap with spots. Thick caramel aroma, fruits, popcorn and it appears on my notes that I could not concentrate enough to figure out the fruits as I wrote "MAKE IT UP!". Light watery taste, faint bitterness. 4.0%. Bread, caramel, faint fruit, fainter pine, dryness is happening and it’s tart. Meh. 6363 11 Regular Cascade - same night. Rating is for this version. Part of the 9hr epic solo drunkfest in Portland in Nov, 2010. Switching to sampler glasses has not stopped the almost crippling affects of what seems to be eleventy litres of beer. Light orangy amber, clear with a tiny white ring. Smell: cereal, light caramel, mild fruit, orange... nothing much here. Boring as shit. The taste follows the smell in attractiveness. Mellow and mild, grains, cereal, light fruit - very light, lemon and hints of medicinal something. Finishes.
2.7 A: The beer pours a rather pretty looking golden amber with a fluffy white head which leaves plenty of lacing on the glass. S: Unfortunately, the beauty doesn’t translate to the more important factors of the beer. Smells sort of funky and overly herbal. There are some light floral notes along with toasted bread. T: The flavor is a bit better. Mildly sweet with some bread and hints of toast. Intensely herbal hop flavor with a decent floral quality to it. Mild bitterness, but it doesn’t really seem to add anything to the beer. M: Light to medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation. O: Really disappointing from Deschutes. I would pass on this beer.
2.6 I think I prefer the more complex Belgian blond style better. This one is really grain tasting to me. Effervescent with stronger malt taste then any of the hops that I cannot find. Pours a nice orange color but is a little blah to me.
3.4 Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Citrus and malt aroma. Citrus and malt flavor. Medium bodied. Easy drinking. Citrus and light earth lingers with malt backing.
3.4 Clear gold, frothy white head. Aroma is grassy, herbal, floral. Taste is grainy, herbal hops. Very light and crisp. I wish it was hotter outside because this beer would be even better then.
3.7 A very cheeky fruit on the nose with some coconut water sweetness. Pretty mild from all angles. An excellent daytime beer for out in the sun. Not too dry, not too sweet, moreish and quaffable. The caramel malt is definitely my favourite part of this.
3.2 Golden orange in color.. Aroma is caramel malts, hint of citrus hops... Flavor is crisp, slightly water... Herbal hop notes... Palate not especially bitter... Decent, nothing special...
2.7 Poured into a pint glass. 4.0 A: Clear light orange/dark yellow color. Two fingers of whippy/creamy head with good retention and a good amount of lacing.. 3.0 S: Light on the nose. Not really much going on in the hop department, but there is a faint grassiness. No sign of citrus, which is strange for a cascade beer. Malts are light on aroma too, but stand out more than the hops. Caramel sweetness and graininess. 3.0 T: A mix of grainy and bready. A decently strong bitterness, but not too much hop flavor. Perhaps a touch of grassiness. Crystal malts and not much else. 3.0 M: Medium body. Could be creamier and a tad bit too much carbonation. 3.0 D: I’m simply not impressed by this beer. Weak on hops, weak on malts, no sophisticated flavor profile. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-10-2009 03:29:31
3.3 Bottle from a Portland buddy. Poured a pale yellow color with some orange notes. Nice big fluffy white head. Good lace and decent retention. Aroma was grassy malts and some bread with just a touch of hops. Flavors were almost pils like, lots of crisp malts, light hop with a dry smooth finish. Extremely drinkable and refreshing. Reminded me of the Terrapin Golden ale or a less hopped 420. Not bad.
3.1 Bottle from Total Wine at The Desert Rose. Burnished orange with a creamy, persisting collar. Grassy, tangerine skin aroma with balancing cashew malt...and some eye-watering CO2. Drying mouthfeel, soda fizz, ornate lace. Gentle soapy hop, impression of thistles, spruce, chewed pencil. Creamy underpinning malt with toasted white bread and nuts. Malt-inflected and toasty. Drinks like a grassy, hop-shy English GA- decent, but ordinary. Wanted more Cascade.
3.0 12 oz bottle. Grainy aroma. Light golden appearance. Interesting tastes in this one. Grainy and hoppy with an odd lingering and very dry bitter taste. Not the best in the deschutes lineup.
3.1 [2993-20100627] Tap. Not much aroma, a little papery and some graininess. Slightly hazy, light orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head. Generic malty grain flavour with a little soapy aftertaste and bitter throughout. Medium body is rough. Unrefined, uninteresting. (@ brewpub, Portland, OR)
2.6 2010-06-27. Crisp golden body with a small off-white head. Flavour is a bit odd, modest bitterness, bit grassy with odd grainy notes. Aroma is similar, with mild hops and an odd grassy character, mild overall. Average paalte. Okay, did not really work for me. On tap at Deschutes, Portland
3.3 Nothing special about this beer but it’s still strong for a blonde ale which can lend itself to being bland. Not that this beer wasn’t bland, it just was better than most of the blondes/goldens I’ve had. Not a ton of aroma, or flavor really but its good. some caramel, some hops (by a blonde standard).
2.5 Bottle. Deep golden with an average white head. Grainy aroma with vegetal nuances. Flavour is pretty bland-- pale grains with some capsicum in the finish. Just okay for me..
3.1 12 oz bottle from Fred Meyer - golden, clear, white foam, light sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, slick feel, soft carbonation. This beer has a faint aroma that is slightly unpleasant at first, but mellows out after a few sips. Tastes good, but not too exciting. Good summer beer.
3.8 Orange with white head. Very crisp aroma. Vegetal hops on the aroma and body. Faint malt character.
3.6 (bottle - 12 oz) Hazy gold color with a fizzy white head and nice lacing that lasts for a while. Light aroma, mainly with hints of flowery hops and some very light citrus. Rather herbal near the end. Dry and herbal hops at the beginning of the flavor with a sweet and lightly zesty middle. The hop bitterness comes through near the end and leaves a delicate peppery flavor on the palate. Finish has a light hint of caramel and citrus. Very dry.
3.3 Sample at the brewpub. This brew is a hazy dark yellow color with a thin white head that recedes quickly. Spotty lacing. Mild citrus, malt and hops in the nose. Light body with flavors of citrusy hops, malt and honey. The finish is caramel malt with an apricot and citrus aftertaste. Decent all around.

2.7 Hazy amber but with a few floaties. Light perfume aroma. Drinkable, but hasn’t held up well
3.4 Kind of a simple, toned-down pale ale. Some toffee and caramel notes in the background but herbal hops dominate the flavor and aroma. Solid beer.
2.9 Bottle (in NZ), pours a hazy amber. Toffee malt on the nose with a touch of fruit. The malty palate is a little soapy, the citrus and peachy hops struggle to break through. Oxidised from the trip.
3.1 Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Hoppy with hints of grapefruit citrus and a larger caramel malt bill. A bit bread y and thin but still decent overall.
3.0 12 oz bottle at the Bayou. Another new Deschutes beer in Utah, nice! Pours a clear golden color with a large white head. The aroma is light caramel malts, some hops. The flavor was smooth and easy; lots of caramel malts, light hops and a grains. Decent.
2.7 12 oz bottle. Best by date of may 09, so it’s a couple of months "past". Pale orangy yellow, nice tight, creamy beige head. Light aroma of caramel malt and even lighter grassy hops Flavor is barely-there-caramel, with a mild spicy hop finish. Hard to believe this came from Deschutes. Yes it’s "old" but it shouldn’t have faded that fast.
