Deschutes Chasin' Freshies 2012 - Cascade

Deschutes Chasin' Freshies 2012 - Cascade

Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. At harvest, we rush Goschie Farms’ Cascade hops fresh from vine to kettle. Not any Cascades, mind you, but an heirloom strain, from a single field, restored from the original rhizome. Hope you’re as hopped up as we are.

3.7 A big, sticky, lasting white head sits atop a clear sunny yellow body; bright lemony-juicy-grapefruit-dankness run the show with sweet and savory accents on a silky med-light body with light carbonation and pointed bitter-dry-herbacious finish; bomber code best by: 12/18/13 0256 at 50º into TeKu
3.0 On tap September 28, 2013 at ABR. Clear golden pour. Grain and hops in aroma and taste. I just wasn’t feeling this one and usually like Deschutes beers.
3.7 On draught at Pdx deschutes - pours crystal clear gold. Nose of intense hops. Taste is hop forward and backward. Somewhat oily on tongue. Finishes dry.
4.1 1st December 2012 Surprisingly pale gold beer, hazy and with a tidy white head. Palate is smooth and light and semi dry with fine carbonation. Interesting IPA! Smooth minty pine. A little banana ester, slightly spicy. Trace of orange citrus and pith, with mild grapefruit. Finishes dry with more minty pine. Hugely drinkable!
4.4 Pours a light, crystal clear yellow-golden color with a foamy, nearly pure white head. Head retention is about average with sudsy residue remaining on the edge of the glass as the head dissipates. A bouquet of grass and lemon with a few notes of pine. I’m not familiar with heirloom cascade, but I don’t get the grapefruit that is usually associated with cascade hops. Mouthfeel is very good for this style. Wet, slick, and not too much carbonation or hop hotness. The color, mouthfeel, and cleanness in the flavor compliment very well. This beer drinks a lot like a pilsener. A lot of nice balance. A pilsener bitterness appears at the finish. Some tangy citrus in the middle. No alcohol heat or taste at all, even though the ABV is pretty high. I really like this beer.
3.2 Crisp, very light golden coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall white head and a honey glow - very nice, albeit light colour. Aroma of malt, alcohol, corn, coriander seed, hay, grass, and yes - a tiny bit of hops - not as much as expected - perhaps just the dry hopping is lacking? Medium to an Odd-Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour up front with a very interesting hop flavour right afterwards, more of grassy and resinous hops, but with a big full body that goes down like syrup. Aftertaste shows only a bit of the hops, mostly malt with cardboard mixed in, some lighter hay and grass notes and a hint of syrupy sweetness on the end. Overall, a very interesting beer - not like most fresh hop I/APAs, but more of a syrupy, resinous APA that doesn’t show enough complexity to be considered great or even good. Drinkable for sure, but not worth the money or space in the suitcase. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Texas Liqour in Carlsbad, California on 19-March-2013 for US$6.99 sampled at home in Washington on 24-March-2013. Sampled within five days of purchasing the beer - albeit the best by date on the bottle is 27-December, it seems like the store had it for quite a while.
3.6 Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Big citrusy notes, sweet sugar, caramel, some spicy character as well. This beer is okay.
3.7 Citrus, light hops in the aroma. Light hazy color white head. Citrus taste little malty. Sour on the palate bitter finish good beer for them hot days.
3.3 22oz bottle. Pours an opaque light golden/straw color. Aroma of citrus, grass, clean. Flavor is citrus, spruce, resin. Hops is very much in the fore here with a citrus up front, bitter middle and dry pine and resin finish.
3.7 Light citrus hop aroma... Color is golden... Flavor is fairly malty and sweet initially which gives way to floral hop bitterness on the finish... Fairly sweet for a west coast ipa... Kind of an English malt mouthfeel with a west coast ipa finish... Nice
3.1 Was really excited about this brew. Quickly became disappointed, though. Nice nose of fresh, piney, bitter hops. Did not enjoy the malt bill, however. Did not support the strong hops. Bad cracker, light pilsner taste.
3.7 22oz bottle picked up at Texas Liquor in Carlsbad Appearance: Cloudy straw yellow with a big white head and some lacing Aroma: Coriander, berries, wheat and citrus Taste: Floral, berries and citrus A nice beer, refreshing flavors.
3.5 Appearance has a hazy golden yellow color supporting a thin head leaving spotty lace. Aroma of sweet citrus, mild hop and caramel malts. Taste again has that sweet citrus carrying a fair malt backbone that blend well with the hops. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Not an aggresive IPA, but more of a refreshing IPA.
3.2 On tap at Muddy Waters (Minneapolis, Minnesota, 7/12/12) Aroma: Citrus, spices, and maybe some apricot. Appearance: Amber in color with a medium white head. Taste: Medium bitterness. Slightly sweet in the front. Palate: Medium bodied, thin texture, and an average carbonation.
3.6 Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Big hops flavors and aroma. Big big hoppy beer. A very tasty big IPA.
3.1 Bottle: Golden color with a fluffy off-white head. Mild nose, florals and herbal. More florals, earthy, and herbal taste. Not the ripe, pungent hoppiness that I was hoping for.
4.0 Bottle. Bright yellow-gold, with a frothy white head that retains beautifully. Pleasant citrus and light pine hop aroma. Hop flavour is bright and delicious, fresh guava and lemon peel. Underlying malts are crackery and subdued, but allow for maximum expression of the lovely hop character. Loved it!
3.4 On tap. Clear golden pour, fluffy white head. Nose is herbal, citrus, and dank hops with some caramel malt. Very balanced, expecting more of a hop punch.
3.2 This was a different kind of IPA... Lots of hops and herbs all around with very light hints of lemon. The taste was light as well, more malty than anything with some soft hop undertones. The finish was pleasant and dry however.
3.2 Not bad. Aroma was light grapefruit and herbal notes with some light marijuana like aromas. The color is disappointing - a flat, clear yellow, like an adjunct pale lager. Flavor is lightly hoppy, with light citrus and some pine. A touch of grain and malt to finish it up. Not bad but I expected a stronger hop presence in this one.
3.2 650 ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow/gold with medium head. Aromas of light pine and lemon. Flavors of peach, pine, citrus, and a bit of phenol. Expecting more...
3.4 Light and cloudy pour, light taste not that hoppy. It's almost like a light IPA. Very nice
3.8 Poours bright yellow..white head..aroma of grapefruit lemon and hopps..taste is similar with hints of dishsoap..overall good ipa
3.6 Tastes like a nice pilsener but with a medium heavy malty body. Great white lacing. A little fruity aroma. Nice golden Colo and white head. Did I say that already?
3.4 I have wanted to try a fresh hopped beer for a while so - pale yellow/light gold pour with aroma of green hops, light grapefruit, and malt - flavors of the same with more grapefruit and a grassy pine - ends with lingering malt, grapefruit, and grassy pine. Good.
3.1 Refreshing and full of good hops. Unfiltered natural freshness. Need 21 more characters.
3.2 22oz bottle, thanks to cbkschubert. Best by 12/27/12, enjoyed it sometime in early December. Mildly hazy golden / orange color. Good thin white head, leaves good lace. Floral and herbal hops - nice, but doesn’t necessarily taste much more "fresh" than what I’m used to. Maybe I’m a bit too late, here. Very light bitter taste for an IPA of this ABV. Bigger body, smooth lighter carbonation. Grass, hay, kind of soapy. Sort of a creamy texture, with a light bitter floral hop finish. Tastes much more in line with a good, hoppy golden ale.
3.0 Poured from the bomber. Quite a disappointing Wet Hop Beer. Aroma is very mild, not hoppy at all. Flavour was similar but actually a bit grainy. Palate is watery. Overall not impressive at all. barely a pale ale.
3.6 Clear golden pour with a medium foamy white head that evaporates steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is hoppy with notes of grapefruit and malt. Medium body with flavors of grassy hops, citrus and biscuit malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrus hops aftertaste. Decent overall.
3.2 Bomber at the Beerhive. Pours a clear amber color with a medium white head. An odd nose of green hops and something like a wit beer. A light herbal flavor, no robust hop flavors, more biscuit and dry earthiness, light grass. Smooth. Decent.
