3.6 Bottle. Pours a hazy brown color with medium frothy head. Aroma of bread, hay, caramel, floral hop, grass hop. Medium body. Light sweetness. Light fruits. Medium light bitter. Not overly hoppy which I don't mind for this. its pretty good.
3.6 Bottle. I like this riff! This indeed is an interesting blend of styles, definitely carrying a bit of German festbier character, yet carrying a nice American hop flourish. (#6836, 11/21/2017)
3.2 12oz bottle picked up at the liquor store in Kamas Pours clear golden with a medium sized off-white head, good lacing. Aroma is grassy, earthy, caramel and herbal. Flavor is bitter, grassy hops, bisquity, earthy and pine resin Not a fan of this
3.6 Bottle, from notes. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted grainy malts, herbal, floral, grassy hops, a hint of spice, mild to moderate bitterness, good.
3.5 12 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of caramel, floral and grass. Taste is resin, caramel and citrus
3.2 7%ABV. IPA. Poured out deep amber. 16ºSRM. Nose is nutty with roasty aromas of chestnuts, toast and hint of caramel. Mouthfeel is beery. Palate has toasted bread crusts, brown wheat toast, water chestnuts, roasted chestnuts. There is a fairly typical middle of the palate type experience with an amber which is beery, mineral and bread-like. Hops are pine, woody, hint of citrus brightness, hint of chili or green capsicum spice. Finish is largely beery, bready and astringent woody hops.
3.7 Draft. Clear golden color white head. Much more malty than your usual IPA, but still nicely hopped, pine resin aroma and taste, decent balance.
3.6 12 oz bottle purchased as a single at Missie’s Discount Liquors in Shawnee, Kansas. Best By 12/08/17 printed on the label. The pour is mostly clear orange golden with a 3 inch light tan head that is quite lasting. The aroma is caramel malt, cereal grain, with leafy grassy hop. The taste is a fresh caramel malt, bit of herbal, along with the leafy grassy hop of the nose in the back. Some evident alcohol heat as the beer warms. The palate is medium bodied, soft to low carbonation and the crisp dry finish. The herbal turns a bit medicinal with the alcohol as it warms. Loved the concept.
3.0 Pours a clear golden brown from the bottle with fluffy off-white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of big toasted makes and herbal hop notes. Taste follows, malty, not hugely hoppy. Maybe a marzen with ale yeast and hopped enough to call it an IPA for marketing purposes, but its just fairly standard for me.
3.1 12oz bottle - pours a clear burnt orange color with a med but thick straw colored head. The aroma is earthiness, whole grain bread, caramel and bitter pine hops. The taste is interesting...german malts, wheat, pine sap, bread and booze.
3.4 Taste: Rich, earthy malts complex, bready notes, some hop character, toothy mouth-feel. Same with the nose. Deep dark Orange/Amber hue, semi opaque, with a cream colored head and nice multi ring lattice of lace. Medium/Full body.
3.7 Pours a mostly clear copper color with a three finger frothy egg shell colored head that left some nice lacing around the glass. The aroma is malty up front, brown bread, earthy hops, spices, and some pine hop resin. I am picking up more of the marzen style in the aroma more so than an ipa but its in there a little bit. In the flavor, there is a great combination of style. The malty, brown bread, and spices dominate up front but throughout you pick up some herbal hops and some nice pine hop resin. This beer is very unique with the combination of the styles.
2.8 had on draft and was not impressed. the alcohol is all over the place and there's just too much malty cereal taste for an IPA.
3.2 Nice take on Oktoberfest... a little odd as an IPA... a little hard to categorize because its an ale not a lager, but still closer to Oktoberfests. Hoppier, less sweet, same nutty profile. I'd pick this over many of the Oktoberfests I've tried.
3.4 12 oz bottle..single from Trader Joe in Salem OR $1.79 Clear darker copper coloured beer witu a small yet persistent frothy white head. Mostly malty, nutty aromas..with a touch of herbal hops. Taste again caramel and nutty malts..the herabal hops come into play in the end. Nice spritzy carbonated mouth feel! To me this is a hoppy marzen not an IPA .
3.5 A hoppy Oktoberfest. Interesting with the extra hop, but built on a basic octoberfest. Medium body no head. Nothing special.
3.2 Draft. Pours orange with a white head. Some sweet malts, flowery hops, a little bit of bitterness, and a balanced finish. Decent.
3.4 It pours amber with a very light brown head. Head retention is moderate. There are aromas of hops and nuts. There is a slight bit of caramel in the nose. The hops are floral and spicy. It has a nutty and floral like flavor with low citrus. There is also some bread and a slight bit of caramel as well. It has a moderate body with a moderately bitter finish. Overall, it has a nice combinations of flavors that work well together with the main focus being on the nuttiness in the flavor.
3.8 It's really nice for the description and style. Nice bright orange color. Sweet citrus hop aroma. Taste is light hops of pine and low citrus. Nice refreshing mouth that ends with some residual sugars. Tap
2.9 Bottle poured a hazy reddish amber with a small lingering ivory head. Aromas of caramel, earthiness, fruitiness and spice. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of caramel, earthiness, spice and light fruitiness with a smooth dry bitter lingering earthy finish.
3.1 Bottle. Herbal hop aroma with notes of floral and citrus hops as well as some caramel malt. Pours clear amber colored with a large tan head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with herbal and floral hops flavors. Finishes dry and fairly smooth with some citrus hops and caramel malt flavors but the herbal hops overpower these flavors quickly to linger on the palate. Unfortunately, the taste is medicine-like, so it's not deschutes best.
3.7 Bronze pour, tan head. Nose is woody. Bitter. Middle is sweet carmelized malt, apricots, earthy hop character. Finish bittersweet and smooth.
3.6 A steady pour produces a two-finger thick, dens, pale amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a rich amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of floral citrus zest, aromatic toasted nuts, guava, passion fruit, and just lots of tropical fruit juice like notes. Nicely bitter, though not aggressively so, and the finish has a soft astringency to it that seems to come from the character malts used. The beer is nicely carbonated and has a soft, light-medium body to it that lingers just a bit on the palate, but still makes for a quaffable beer. Crystal malt flavors combine with the hops to produce a slightly metallic note, and the malt also provides a toasted nutty note, and a caramelized malt flavor that influences the flavor profile just underneath the hop character. Floral, juicy, bright citrus zest flavors accentuate lots of tropical fruit notes; tangerine zest, kumquat, guava, mango, and hibiscus are all found here. This is a solid, crystal malt influenced IPA. The Crystal malt doesn't dominate, nor provide cacophonous, competing notes to the hop character, which so often happens in heavily hopped beers of this type.
3.4 For an autumn beer they got the color right. It is a nice right orange and almost looks to have a little red in it as well. The head looks creamy and sticks to the side of the glass. Sigh aroma of citrus, but otherwise the aroma is a little lacking. Flavor is interesting. Slightly sweet with a bit of hop bitterness on the back sides of the tongue. Controlled malt with some earthy undertones and maybe some banana. A little bit fuzzy in the mouth. Not a bad autumn beer thought it doesn't quite seem to hang together completely.
3.7 12 oz bottles from Food Lion in Richmond, VA the IPA poured a clear amber color with a small off-white head and lacing. An attractive beer. The aroma of toasted crystal malts. This ale does a nice job with a more hoppy profile, and the malt favors not being overshadowed by the hops. The IPA has some sweetness at the end of each swallow which is more like the Marzen style beers. Nice mouthfeel for the hops. Raised score.
3.4 Bottle - hazy amber - aromatic hops in the nose take the form of orange, apricot - flavor is similar - medium bitter, but sweet, rich maltiness favors more prominently than your typical ipa - a moderate acidity cuts the malt and allows the hop bitterness to shine a bit in the finish - decent.
3.4 12 oz single bottle from Molly's Spirits. Clear amber colored appearance with a small white head. Aroma of and flavor of toasted malt, light pine, earth, mild herbal/floral notes and a touch of fruitiness. Solid.
3.5 12oz bottle Amber poor thin off white head Aroma and taste is floral earthy and spicy Finish is a bit boozy
4.8 A must have beer! Need to run out and buy this beer while they're available.
3.4 12floz bottle, BBD: 11.17.2017, bought in a mix-six at the unit cost ~$1.75. Poured contents into a pint glass where a two-finger head settles down atop a red-orange body. Muddled aroma of plasticity caramel and pine isn't very distinctive to highlight in this review. Tastes how it it was intended, basically an IPA-ized marzen - toasty, buttery caramel, and a good dose of mild herbs. A decent medium-full bodied ale brewed with ingredients most associated with German lagers.
