Deschutes Inversion IPA

Deschutes Inversion IPA

Enter, if you will, all the glorious aromatic complexity of the hop. This big, bold IPA’s intense multi-hop kick gets a subtle dose of restraint from select Crystal and Carastan malts. For discriminating hop heads.

2.0 On tap at Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is mild malts, citrus peels, earthy bits. Taste is citrus-y and then an earthy bitterness that reminded me of chewing on a poisonous twig. Harsh.
3.4 Bottle from Total. Pours out a nice-looking deep amber color with a frothy light tan head and lots of lacing. Big fruity-spice aroma and flavors with a bit of citrus and pine. Good bitterness but a little too much on the sweet side for me.
3.0 12 ounce bottle. A good overall IPA. No complaints, but was expecting a bit more "punch" bordering on an Imperial IPA let’s say. That said, I doubt many drinkers, in the know, will complain about this beer!
3.3 Pours amber from the bottle with a creamy head. The tropical notes are less overt than standard for the style. Instead, a blend of caramel and resin accompanied by light citrus & apple notes greets the nose. The hops makes itself felt in the taste, which is bitter with grapefruit and apple notes. Acridity in the finish. Body is medium, with moderate carbonation. Not bad.
3.4 On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed amber orange with a medium sized white head. Earthy pine and a bit of citrus on the nose, a bit of fruit. Medium bodied, soft yeast tones with a hint of banana. Thicker and maltier than expected from the nose, a bit of pungent earthy hops. Long toast and a bit of fruit into the finish. A touch flabby, long earth and pine.
3.5 (Deschutes Inversion IPA) Bottle 335ml at home, served into a shaker, ABV 6.8% Amber coloured body, clear, with a small and thin white head on top. Aroma of caramel malts, biscuit. Taste of caramel malts too, sone toffee, biscuit, hops, nicely bitter finish. Medium body, good carbonation. Nice.
3.7 Clear copper colour. Aroma and flavour have some sweet malts and ripe fruits. Perhaps some honey dew melon. Smooth and well rounded.
3.5 From a bottle. Pours an amber orange and makes a thin white head. Aroma of hops and malted barley. Tastes more like a hoppy malt amber than an IPA, but I like it.
3.9 Red Amber color, ok white head, a bit oily residue. Nose is more tobacco and toast hops, less of the over the top, grapefruit. Taste burnt malt, metallic and crisp, some herbal and vegetative notes, significant hops. Palate: sparkly front, medium body, dry finish, good hoppiness. Overall: good beer, balance is a bit towards hops, could, see this as being an acceptable craft ipa for most people.
3.3 12 oz bottle outs a light orange color with a nice white head. Aromas of citrus rind, pine, light resin. Medium bodied, very nice beer.
3.5 Pours a dark bronze-orange with tan head. A string malt forward aroma of caramel and light tropical fruit. A tropical fruit, caramel malt, and some hops. A caramel malt and light tropical fruit and hop aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle. Deep Amber in colour. Mega-Hoppy; lots of resinous piney hops. Fruity; strong grapefruit and lemon citrus, rind. Malty; caramel and toffee. Seriously bitter citrus hoppy bite over a nice caramel malty base. Long dry very bitter finish. (2009-01)
3.5 Bottle. Amber-copper color with white head. Aroma is grapefruit, toffee, earthy, piney and floral hops. Taste is toffee, grapefruit, again some earthy hops. Silky mouthfeel. Classic, more English-style IPA.
3.5 On tap at Deschutes Brewing Public House. Citrus rind bitterness dominated the flavour of this.
2.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours amber with a large white head. Aroma was pine, lemon, fruit rinds. Taste was bitter, citrus rind.
3.2 Dark orange. Nice citrus flavor. Again citrus in the taste, nice hoppy palate. Great.
3.9 Deep red copper with malted milkshake head. Some pine, crystal malts, and raw chicken on aroma. Yummy light caramel malt profile with pine, hints of citrus, and some pepper notes from malt. If this was a rye-pa it might be one of my favorites. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation, lightly slick in mouth followed by gentle bitterness.
3.5 Pretty tasty IPA. A bit harsh to bite but I like my bites harsh. I was hesitant to buy this beer based on the artwork but glad I bought it.
4.0 On tap at the pub room in Bend, Oregon, very fresh of course, aromatic, floral, dry, malt backbone.. I like it.
3.5 12oz bottle. Pours a dark red-amber with an attractive head of uneven white cream. Aroma is also an attractive mix of distinct hops and malts that are rich and well blended. The malt backbone supports a strong hop punch of bitterness and resin. The alcohol is noticeable but not off-putting. Overall nicely balanced and very drinkable.
3.1 Aroma is more malt tha hops. Between the aroma and the beige coloring, it reminded me more of an amber ale (that is on the hoppier side). The taste is more hop forward. A bit more of a resin side. Some floral, and a bit of citrus, but that is if you are searching. I get more resin than anything. That is followed by a sweet malt backing. Alcohol is masked well. Low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel with a bit of prickling on the tip of the tongue. Not a bad beer, but if I want an IPA, I doubt I would go for this. If I want a smoother less hoppy ale, I could see myself reaching for this.
3.3 It wasn’t bad and had a nice aroma. My main criticism is the taste sat in my mouth way to long.
3.5 Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Ruby red and a small off white head. Aroma is a little malty and piney. Taste is much more complex! Loads of floral, pine, and a tiny bit of citrus in there all hitting you at once. Pine resin aftertaste. A nice medium body and kinda light carbonation. Hard to call this balanced.
4.1 malty and fresh hops in the aroma. Flavor wise, hops lean towards resin. Very drinkable and great body.
3.8 From a 355ml bottle on 3/5/2016. Pours a dark golden/light amber with a medium head. Has a light aroma of caramel and floral hops. Flavour wise, there’s a decent dash of caramel malt, some sweet citrus fruit, followed by quite a spicy, slightly peppery bitterness - a bit rye IPA-like. Medium bodied with average carbonation.Very solid.
3.6 Dark amber/copper with a nice lasting head. Caramel aroma. Taste is fairly typical IPA, maybe a little more caramel and a nice finish. Good body and mouthfeel. Not my favorite, but not bad at all.
3.6 A grain malt forward IPA. Flavors are definitely earthy and malty. Nice head that last. toast and carbonation. aroma is nice citrus. Good mouth feel.
2.5 Pours a darker amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of caramel malts and that about it. Not much hops for an IPA. Flavor has more hops than the aroma but not much more. Kind of had a soapy flavor as well.
3.4 Pours a golden brown - a little bit darker for this style. Nice head and lacing. Aroma of apricot and pine. Big mouth feel with resiny floral hops, and full, slightly bitter finish.
3.0 @ Deschutes 16-3-10: Tydlig humlig men även lite söt. Ingen distinkt smak. Ok läskande men inget mer.
