Deschutes Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale

Deschutes Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale

The citrus punch of a big IPA, minus the one-dimensional hop sledgehammer. Seven select European and domestic malts round out the edges for a complex, copper-colored brew. Like its namesake ski lift, it’s an insider’s ride to fresh thrills.

3.7 Smell of little citrus and strong amber and malts. Some hit of hops. Amber red in color and a dirty head. Taste has orange peel, hops, amber, malts, little bitters and pine.
3.8 12 oz bottle poured into shaker glass. Copper color cloudy beer, medium body. Aroma is malty, taste has pine and passion fruit. Bitter finish.
3.7 35,5cl Bottle @ Beer Republic, Breda, Netherlands. Hazy amber colour with a medium size white head. Aroma is hops, citrus, fruits, malt. Taste is hops, citrus, grapefruit, malt, sweet. Medium body, average carbonation.
3.7 355 ml bottle poured into an IPA glass. Appearance is a hazy dull orange amber color, topped with a good one finger of off-site froth, which lingers for the duration as a frothy layer. Aromas are citrus, grapefruit, dank, very nice and just smothers the nose! Taste is lightly sweet malts, fruity bittersweet, and resinous bitter.Medium bodied but gets lighter towards the finish.
3.8 355ml bottle. Cloudy, copper-ish, dark amber colour with average, thick, fluffy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Zesty, citrusy hoppy aroma, notes of lemon, orange, orange zest, hints of blood orange, grapefruit, caramel malty background; almost perfumed, concentrated lemon. Taste is zesty, citrusy hoppy and sweet-ish caramel malty, notes of lemon, lemon zest, orange, orange zest, marmalade. Very clean and concentrated citrus notes, very refreshing - excellent.
5.0 Nitro, 24 oz mug. Had this from a bottle before and it was okay, but just had it on nitro at a local restaurant and it was one of the best beers I've had!
4.1 5oz on tap @ Henry's. Pours cloudy golden with a medium head. Aroma is sweet malts with tropical fruits. Flavor is sweet malts, tropical fruits, pine, hops. Very good.
3.8 Pours golden with a thick white head. Tastes of an amber lager with hops and citrus fruit juice. Very well balanced. Less juicy than a NEIPA, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
4.0 Very good and well balanced pale ale. Definitely northwest, very piney. Beautiful reddish color.
3.8 Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Hazy pale amber. Bready resin aroma. Balanced, some malt and passion fruit. Long spice finish.
4.1 Now aviable on tap in Thailand. Fresh smell of hop medium body Golden appearance and not long biterness at tongue.
4.2 A brilliant American pale that pours reddish amber and exudes bright fresh citrus hops, but is backed by a pleasant caramel and toast malt backbone that lends both balance and girth. Nice earthy, almost mushroomy notes creep in before with hops take over as it fades. Red Chair leaves a final gift of scattered lace behind.
3.2 Draft. Pours golden orange with a white head. Light fruity and herbal hops, mild bitterness, some toffee and crystal malt sweetness, and a balanced finish. Solid.
3.6 Lemongrass and fresh start with a comfortable amount of bitterness that isn't overpowering and benefits the overall flavor.
3.4 Bottles from HC&B 2-4-18 Previously at 3.3
3.8 Big citrus nose but a heavy, malty sweet body creates a friendly, balanced beer perfect with the pepperoni, black olive and onion pizza just served to our table. Good hop bite on the finish. Enjoyed on tap.
3.2 Not a bad beer for a starter. Actually impressed with the taste. Would buy a case and drink on a nice night.
3.9 Aromas of crisp hops, grass, melon, leafy hops, pines, resin, amber malts, caramel, ale yeast, toffee and grain malts. Pours a very nice crimson with a copper hue and a thin white foam. Taste brings a clean and straight bitterness with notes of pines, herbs, resin, dankness, tree sap, honey and hints of citrus upfront. Finishes smooth with a nice malt backbone of caramel, sturdy grains, amber malts, copper oils, toasted bread malt sugars and crisp ale yeast. Overall, this is straight and to the point. Nothing too outside the box but it takes the style and nails it. Very pleasantly clean bitterness and refreshing with every sip.
3.4 Bottle. Pours clear copper red with large foamy light beige head, caramel malt aroma, low carbonation, bitter caramel malt taste with floral hops, smooth body, long bitter finish. Very smooth and flavorful.
3.0 Light white head Grass and hoppy aroma Nut brown color with clarity Medium mouth feel Average hoppy taste that lingers
3.7 Rating from old records (Sept'17): bottle from Dan's. Quite a hoppy pale pushing toward IPA territory
3.8 Update: Much more of a red IPA when super fresh (BBD: 05.12.2018). It's fine fresh or a little old, but I prefer it a little old. -1 for appearance, its merely good as a 4 not excellent as a 5 as I previously rated. I'll let stand as I rated otherwise. Although, given the mood I'm in now it's more like a 3.5 brew. Paid $8 for a six-pack. 12floz bottle, BBD: 04.06.2017 (I’ve had fresher, I’m not gonna let a BBD get in the way), nonic glass. Appears amber n color, and head is stable leaving residue behind. In short, it smells like a candy medium bodied ale, and tastes somewhat like a caramel pine cone. A pretty generic description for a beer that the profile of a hoppy amber welll.
3.8 Bottle. Deep copper, red hue, medium off white head, good lacing. Aromas of grapefruit, pepper, rye, a touch of pine, bread and caramel malts. Quite spicy on the palate, with initial bitterness and warming, integrated alcohol. Leads into pine and a sweetish caramel middle and moderately bitter finish.
3.5 I had this towards the tail end of the night and had quite a few beers before hand but this was really shockingly delicious. Try it, you will like it
3.4 Bottle. Citrus hop aroma with notes of bready malt and light pine resiny hops. Pours clear copper colored with one finger of off white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with bright citrus hop flavors with some pine bitterness in the background. Finishes dry, but smooth with bready malt countering the hop bitterness well. Pretty good.
3.3 12oz bottle reddish pour with off white head aroma and taste is citrus and light hops
4.4 This is a very smooth beer. I love the hop forward nature of this beer that lends the initial bitterness and refreshing nature of an IPA, but comes in with nice smooth and bready malts to just make this an easy beer to sip with pals or on a night in. Very nice.
3.5 Dark orange colour with thin head. Aroma has a lot of sweet fruity notes. Taste is fruity with a touch of caramel and syrup. Bittersweet.
3.9 355ml bottle. Pours copper with a good head. Grapefruit, pine resin, mango, caramel. Good full body. The epitome of a classic APA.
