Destihl Hoperation Overload

Destihl Hoperation Overload

An Our mission for this Imperial or ’Double’ India Pale Ale is to overload the beer with hops for an intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma while still being balanced by a big malt profile, resulting in a hoppy beer with more dimension. This beer is light copper in color with some hop haze from overloading with dry hops as well. World Beer Championships Award: Bronze Medal 2011

3.5 Enough malt to cover the alcohol and add a really nice mouth feel. Low bitterness for style.
2.9 Can poured to pint glass. Carmel color, malty aroma. I like malt- forward IIPA’s, but this one pegs the meter! My palate didn’t pick up anything else.
3.5 25/VII/15 - 12Fl. Oz. can @ Trillium tasting, home - BB: n/a, canned: I/15/15 (2015-995) Thanks to sebletitje for sharing the can! clear orange beer, huge frothy yellowish head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: piny, resinous, bit dusty, metallic touch. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very sweet, lots of caramel, fruity, strawberry jam, bit sugary, metallic, pretty bitter. Aftertaste: caramel, sweet, some pineapple, honey, strawberry jam.
3.5 Can. Caramelly malts. Dark amber body with a think off white head and excellent lace. Plentiful bubbling in the body. Not realizing this was a double IPA when I first took a sip, thinking instead it was an APA or IPA, my first impression was that it was very malt forward. Even now knowing it’s an IIPA I have that same opinion. It’s also fairly hot. Good beer but middle of the road for an IIPA.
3.9 This is a hop bomb for sure. More of a West Coast style IPA. Semi-clearish medium yellow to light orange appearance. Could use a little more malt for flavor and character, but the hop is where this is heading. I like the fact that these Midwest brewers are starting to distribute here in FL. Looking forward to sampling more.
2.6 4-pack of 12 oz cans on sale for $3.99 at Supermarket Liquors. Clear amber appearance with a sticky, lingering tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, pine, resinous hops and a touch of alcohol. Similar flavor, adding heavy hop bitterness and mild malt sweetness. Medium to full body. Almost harsh and kind of hard to drink. Tastes old. 150130 on the bottom of the can so I’m assuming it’s about 6 months old. Pairing: Phish - Set One - 7/29/2015 - (Live Stream)
3.5 355ml can from Total Wine, Tampa.
3.8 Thanks to sebletitje! 355 ml. can split by 4. Hazy orange, big creamy white. Nose big on black bread malts, big bread, some creamy quality, harsh pine resin, malts dominate a bit,.. Taste is heavily bitter pine resin, creamy, rather boozy with big black bread malts,… Unbalanced but not entirely bad. A bit raw but pleasant enough. Creamy body.
4.6 Full hoppy aroma, poured amber with a nice head on it that did dissipate. Not a lot of carbonation, but enough. Sweet with a bitter finish that does not linger too long.
3.6 Can. Pours clear copper. Aroma is floral and citrus hops, bready malts, soft booze, and soft cherries. Flavor is dry and nicely balanced between the sweet malt character and the hop bitterness with some light boozy character. Medium body.
3.5 12 ounce can thanks to Bradley. Orange pour. Some fruity esters and malt. Bit of hop citrus. Not an overload, but ok.
3.0 Can. Aromaless but possibly medicinal. Flavor is somewhat overwhelming. Alcoholic, tropical with a little bit of coconut sweetness. Will pour out the rest.
3.4 Poured from 355mL can. Clear, copper brown with off-white head. Mild resinous hops, a little vegetable and subtle sweet malt, quite a bitter finish. Flavour dissipates a little quickly though.

2.5 Can. Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a moderate frothy light tan head on there. Nose is noticeably hoppy and sweet, and has some resiny notes to it. Taste is a bit bitter, but the hops have clearly turned, and does not seem fresh. Bleh.
3.1 12 oz Can. Dark amber color with some gold hues. Big fluffy white head, dissipates somewhat quickly. Hoppy nose, cantaloupe and pine. Tart flavor, not sure on first sip if I love it. It is good, not great. There isn’t a tremendous amount going on flavor wise, but the maltiness is a but off putting for my palate. I have no issue with this, but it isn’t memorable.
3.7 Can. Lightly funky orange malt and orange peel/pine aroma. Cooper with small head. Sweet earthy orange malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Pretty tasty.
3.4 Orange pour with a huge head. Aroma of tropical fruit and hints of caramel. Booze is pretty forward and has a bite to it. Some juicy citrus notes and some pineapple. Medium mouth.
3.4 Pours a dark reddish orange with off-white head. Sweetness, some pine, light citrus and malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes very sweet.
3.8 Reddish brown with an inch of tan head. Aroma is sweet, with red grapefruit and some dark plum notes. Taste is the same, with a plummy alcohol syrup that carries into the finish. Nice stuff, not overly alcoholic, with a high amount of residual bitterness. $2.7/12oz
3.6 Can: Dark copper with a tall, tan head. Aroma is caramel, breadheel.... Taste is sticky, piney, caramel malt... Oily, woody hopping.... Very malty.....thick-feeling.... Overload is a good descriptor for this one.
3.1 Can sampled at the Destihl tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 2/26/15. Clear amber pour with a thick beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, along with some pine and grass. Bitter grassy hop flavor up front with a sweet malt finish.
3.3 Pours copper with thin sticky head. Taste is citrusm pine, hops and sweet caramel malt finish. Medium body light carb.
3.6 12oz can from Weilands. Clear copper pour with light tan head and foamy lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, herbal, grass. Tastes are fairly malty up front then spruce, sugary dough, floral, grass, spices, pine wood, citrus. Oily resiny hops on the medium palate. Fairly bitter in the finish, but the sweet malt wins out overall. Decent dipa sippa.
2.6 A very big ipa. It was to much malt. It did balance out but to bug on the malt profile. Very cloying. Had a weird bitter taste
3.5 12iz can shared. Poured a medium copper color with off white head. Decent lacing. Aroma is mslts DNS lots of citrus hops followed by pine. The flavor is an excessive malt base for some reason. Nice hops flavor of citrus and pine. Overall I undestsnd the low score for style but it has a good flavor to it.
3.5 draft, this was ok, alcohol burns a little, citrus and sticky hops, its decent, a little below average
2.5 12 oz. can. This is not good. Pours a golden amber with a thick white head. Aroma of citrus, resin, and pine, with some malt presence. Flavor is hops and chunky malt flavor. Sticky mouthfeel, kind of gross after one can. This is a below average double IPA.
3.8 Clear amber with a foamy light beige head. Deep sticky earthy hop resin on the nose with a touch of lemon and malt sweetness. Deep yet rich flavor with lots of grapefruit and earthy pine resin and a deep resounding caramalt malt backbone. Its nuanced but sternly bitter with lots of semisweet grapefruit rind. A bit much on that front but still very tasty.
3.7 12 oz can poured. This thing exploded when I opened it for a reason that is still under investigation. Huge foamy head for days. There are two things that never get old to me, and that would be hoppy beers, and beers that have super clever pun names. 2 in 1! I love that. Though Mitch Hedberg once said, two in one makes no sense, because it would be overflowing, and the bottle would be all sticky and shit. This may explain why the can exploded with foam. Ah, it all makes sense now. Now on to the less important details. Beer pours a dark copper color. Super pine aroma. Flavor has a super sweet caramely side to it, which I wouldn’t always enjoy, but this one makes it work. High Abv, but drinks nice. Really good for cracking after 12 hours of work. Piney hops flavor will stick around forever. Not your ordinary in the style. The word overload in the name is a good word to describe this if you are only using one word. Now, I’m going to continue enjoying this beer, and listen to some Mitch. Overall, it’s pretty good.
