Destihl Wild Sour Series: Lynnbrook Raspberry Berliner Weisse

Destihl Wild Sour Series: Lynnbrook Raspberry Berliner Weisse

Lynnbrook, named after our founder’s family farm, is a wild Berliner-Style Weisse with raspberries added, resulting in a very refreshing beer presenting with fuchsia color and an aroma reminiscent of picking tart red raspberries growing next to an old, abandoned barn, with the raspberry-lemon aroma giving way to hints of brie and barnyard funkiness. The flavor is absent of any hops or bitterness and instead has initial impression of subtle lemon and yogurt supported by tart, fresh raspberries and underlying lactic sourness. The beer’s dry finish helps cut through some sweetness from the fruit.

3.1 Pours clear ruby with a three finger, ruby white head. Aroma is raspberry, salt and sour cherry. Taste is raspberry, moving to tart cherry, salt and light coriander. Finish is sour. A decent Berliner.
3.6 Can... Pours clear and faintly pink with a small, fizzy, white head that's gone in a flash. The aroma features citric acid - lemon - a light ration of berries and mild doughiness. Raspberry doesn't really stand out here. Light to medium-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is mildly sour, bright, citrusy and refreshing. Raspberry doesn't stand out here either, but citric lemon does. Short, crisp, tart finish. This is a nice Berliner weisse. It's not grainy or wheaty, which suits me fine. Needs more raspberries though.
3.7 Can. It poured reddish gold with a tall frothy pink head. Raspberry aroma and flavor. Tart taste.
4.2 Sweet rasperries on the nose. Pink and bubbly. Very sour punch that takes away from some of the berry on the nose but still very good.
2.8 Found in can from brewpub in Champaign, Illinois. Unique pinkish color with medium white foam, hint of raspberry with a whole lot of tart, a little too tart for my liking but was not just the sour additive you find in cheap produced fruit goses.
3.4 Quite refresing and very fruity. More than sour almost like a lime but like a good cold limeade.
2.0 Can from Beer Mountain. I think that's probably on Sandy Lane, CA. Headless red. Wincing sour with a simplistic cherry drop sherbet flavour. Aggressive and dull. Cherry drop nose. Hard to drink. Crap.
3.7 Orange red pour and minimal head. Aroma is light and grainy. Taste is fruity sour. Sour is near the top. Enjoyable.
3.0 Bad can. Clear, light peachy-pink beer with a HUGE white head. Biotic, socky, powdery aroma with some off undertones. Sour, close to jaw locking... and that’s about it. Don’t really get much raspberry subtlety. Sour, tart, tangy. Rather one-note. Light body, lively carbonation. Market Square Liquors.
3.1 can. surprised how tasty this was - though only in my amounts. very interesting beer
3.7 Can. Light grain for the malt, no noticeable hops, dried leaves for the yeast, with hints of berries, crabapple and faint vinegar. Head is small, fizzy and bubbly, with no lacing and is quickly diminishing. Color is clear pink. Flavor starts heavily to harshly acidic and sour, then finishes moderately to heavily acidic and sour. Palate is light, watery, with a fizzy carbonation and a very tart finish. Super sour and biting Berliner Weisse with a nice berry addition.
3.6 Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors - 12 oz can. Slightly sparkling, light pink pour, no real head after the initial bubbly froth. Aroma has some burnt accents, some dried fruit sourness. Excellent sour flavor, light vinegar, some dried apricots, back end of raspberry sourness- excellent tartness. Nice spritz to the mouthfeel.
3.0 I don’t think I’ve ever described a beer as "too sour", but here we are. It smells fine, like raspberry jam on toast, and initially tastes like it, too. But in kinda finishes with a battery acid sourness that detracts from the whole thing.
4.0 Lovely, lovely Berliner, massively sour and full of raspberry tartness, as big and aggressive as the style can get. Nose offers up hints of funk amd hunks of berry. Looks fairly blah, but that nose makes you not care. Taste punches you in the throat with sour, first with citric abrasiveness, then with a must-tinged berry blast. Dry as hell, and the finish weaves between tangy fruit and a bitter-lemon-in-the-woods fade. Nice.
4.0 9/4/16. 12oz can. Pink pour with a nice pink head. Nice aroma, sour, tart, raspberries. Good flavor, sour as all get out, plenty of raspberry character, mild wheat character. Tasty!
3.7 Can from Beach Liquor in Fort Walton. A pinked hued, gold color with bubbly carbonation but no real head. Light fruity raspberry in the aroma plus a light tartness. Very tart flavor at first but finished with some nice berry. Lingering tart, dry finish. Very pleasant.
2.3 Can - Pours a pale strawberry red, no head. This one was flat. After 3 sours, I can’t even. So here it is... tart, and meh.
3.5 Can. Jammy raspberry nose, yogurt, vanilla, seeds. Orange-pink color, hazy, wiht a low, fine head. Medium sweet, lots of fruit flavor, a touch of vegetables. Decent emnough.
3.5 12 oz. canned 07/27/2016. Look is new shiny copper with a pink tinge. Vigorous bubble activity maintains a small ring of foam. Nose is raspberry hard candy. Tastes of tart raspberry and light funk. Light body has ultra high fizz and a dry tart slant.
3.3 Just a good solid clean raspberry flavor hitting all the right notes. Very well done.
2.8 Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a pinkish-amber color with a large foamy pink-white head that left decent lacing. The aroma was chalky, citric and yeasty. The flavor was tart, sour and dry with berries, yeast, citrus and chalk. Long tart berry and citrus finish. Medium body. Ok.
3.3 Aromas of raspberry and malt. Flavors were mildly tart with a citrus hint. A little funky. Nice rose hue and light weight.
3.3 Bottle at WTF 3. Pours a cloudy orange with thick frothy white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is The aroma is strong berry, wheat, dough, lacto. Light body, raspberry, dough, lacto, nice tartness, good.
2.5 Can. A- Funky, tart, spoiled yogurt, citrus, sour, barnyard. A- Dull pink color, hazy liquid, light pink head. T- Very sour, tart, acidic, subtle raspberry, citrus, mild funk. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, sour finish. O- This was like drinking a warhead that smelled like manure. The aroma was pretty bad. A huge amount of barynard musty funk aromas and the taste was unbelievably acidic and tart. Definitely a downgrade from the regular Lynnbrook and at only 3% It’s practically sour water.
4.0 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 8/31/2016. Pours pinkish golden/orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with solid retention, that reduces to a small cap that eventually reduces to nothing. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of fruity/lactic sourness and tangy berry tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour raspberry, lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, hay, straw, light lacto funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a good malt/sourness balance; fairly puckering, but no lingering astringency after the finish. Medium carbonation and light bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, dry, acidic, and lightly grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3%. Overall this is a great fruited Berliner weisse. All around Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, raspberries, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink; despite the high lactic acidity. A very enjoyable offering.
3.9 On tap at The Publican. Poured clear light pink red with white head. Aroma tart raspberry juice. Med fine carb with med bod. Taste light refreshing tart like cranberry juice but raspberry.
4.0 Funky raspberry with lots of acidic lemon. Flavor is quite tart with sour lemon raspberry. Trailing yogurt and wheat.
3.4 Clear amber pink pour with small white head. Aroma of lemon citrus, raspberry, slight vinegar and yeast. Taste of lemon citrus, sweet raspberry jam, lactic sourness, yeast and slight vinegar. Light bodied, fizzy carbonation, spritzer type mouthfeel, tart abrupt finish.
4.3 Lynnbrook looks like the carbonated berry lemonade I get from Trader Joe’s. Feels like it (and even sort of tastes like it), too, only this is much more sour... and much tastier. It has a cloudy pink body and a light pink fizzy head. Cracker, bright champagne, and faint berry aromas. Flavor has both berry and citrus. It isn’t too sweet, which I like. Some milder notes of funky bread. Palate is dry, spritzy, and tart. Big emphasis on that last adjective. Destihl sure likes making them sour, and I sure like to drink them that way.
4.0 Lots of head, from a can, pink, clear. Sour berry nose, light good funk. Great berry taste. Just missing the booze.
