Dick Danger Ale

Dick Danger Ale

The Original C.D.A., Dick Danger Ale is a non-intrusive dark ale which defies all style guidelines. A large percentage of black malt give this distinctive ale its dark brown/black color and slightly roasted flavor. The Magnum hops provide a backbone of bitterness and large late additions of Mt. Hood hops lend good flavor and aroma in the finish. Dick Danger Ale is Dick’s Brewing flagship beer and is the first beer created by late Founder, Dick Young.

3.0 Bottle: Poured a deep brown with a thin off white colored head. Aroma is strong malts. Taste is roasted malt, slight watery.
3.0 Pours a dark dark brown with some deep ruby hues, moderate tannish head. Malty sweet, flavors of raisins and dark toffee, some muddled unspecific sharp caramel twang. Esthery finish, belgian notes abound with peppery and phenolic clove-like flavors, slightly slick mouthfeel. Bittering is a bit lacking and could use a bit more to balance out the sweetness.
3.1 Bottle. Light chocolate aroma with some sweet candy and cola. Dark translucent brown. Malty initial; mild sugary sweetness in mid; finish is also sweet and somewhat balanced. A little bit too sweet overall. Not bad though
3.1 355ml bottle pours dark brown in color with a finger of off-white head that leaves a few patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma is toasty grains and caramel with some hints of chocolate and earthy notes. Taste is a toasty malt and earthy hop bitterness with a malty sweet backbone. LIght to medium body with loads of carbonation. A pretty nice brown ale, but certainly not one of the best that I have tried.
3.1 Clear dark brown pour with a medium foamy beige head that evaporates steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasty malt and caramel. Light-bodied with a sweet character and notes of malt, toffee and Trix cereal. The finish is short and malty with a somewhat cloying sweetness left behind. Just average overall.
3.1 Pint at Summit Public House. Pours brown with a white head. The aroma is nutty with brief hoppiness, smells a little metallic but not offputting. The flavor has notes of chocolate, almonds toffee. This is malty and approachable, not robust or hefty, not particularly rewarding. I guess that could apply to many brown ales for me.
3.4 Bottle at Sander’s place, NYC. Pours clear brown with a creamy, off-white head. Dry toasty malt aroma with hints of dark sugar and earth. Medium sweet flavor, toast, mild caramel, some leaves, some Belgian candi. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly dry, toasty caramel malts, candi sugar, faint earthy bitterness. Decent brew.
2.3 Had at taproom with Andy Brendan and James. Not a very good beer. Brownish pour with decent head. Nothing special about the taste. Mediocre malts.
2.7 A copper brown ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a nutty cinnamon malt with berry notes. In mouth, a smooth berry notes, a bit of strawberry notes, so-so. On tap at Humpy’s, Oct. 9 2011.
2.7 (bomber courtesy of RiversideAK, sampled 4/1/10). Brown color with amber hue. Medium off white head, which is mostly diminishing. Aroma of moderate malt sweetness and light hops. Moderate sweet caramel flavor, with moderate hoppiness. Avg duration. Very light bitter finish. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Spare lacing.
2.3 On draft at Colicchio & Sons, where I overpaid for a pint of this ordinary brown ale. Very malty, and my taste buds had a hard time detecting the large additions of Mount Hood hops (altho there was a touch of something that tasted like spearmint). Pretty flat too. To me it tasted mostly like two day old iced coffee with extra sugar added, and a little cola too. This stuff didn’t click with me.
3.4 On tap at Rhinoceros, Missoula. Pours mahogany with a rich beige head and a treacle aroma. There is a medium-bodied roasted malt flavor with a sweet finish.
3.9 Yum. This is nice. Smooth first, then sweet and a bit chewy. Pretty decent brew, but just a bit on the sweet side.
3.1 Pour is very dark blackish brown from draught. Mild coffee aromatics. Thin mouthfeel with some malts.
3.3 12 oz. bottle- Pours clear dark brown with a soapy light tan head, aroma is caramel malt and a little sweet. The flavor is nutty and creamy, very sessionable. The body is a little thin, carbonation is medium, finish is abrupt. Not the best brown ale out there, but it’ll do.
2.4 Bleh. Nose is fowl, malty yuck. Dark dirty brown in color. Malty and sweet. Not my thing.
2.8 A: Pours an appropriate brown color with a finger of khaki colored head. S: There is a fair amount of nuttiness to the nose along with a bit of roasted malt. A mild chocolate malt aroma to it as well. A touch of toffee and dark fruits, and maybe some earthy hops. T: Surprisingly fruity, lots of raisins and dark cherries. A very, very earthy flavor; to the point that it tastes like dirt. Decent roasted character and a bit of sweetness and nut flavor. Quite bitter, as well. M: The body is fairly light with a moderate to high carbonation. D: Not all that good. Way too earthy and bitter and just not very interesting.
3.1 12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma is pretty light, but I get hints of sweet malt and grassy bitterness. The flavor is lightly roasted with caramel, light chocolate and grassy. This is pretty straight forward with nothing that really stands out.
3.2 Bottle served in a dimpled mug. Pours dark brown with a short creamy light beige head. Good spotty lacing. Sweet caramel aroma, soiled hay on the barn floor, and some roast. Sweet flavor. Medium body, croily texture, good carbonation, and a long, roasty, and slightly bitter finish.
3.1 The aroma is of dirt, cocoa. The appearance is a translucent red/brown, off-white head. The flavor is chocolate, earthy, roasty, better than the aroma implies. The body is medium, actually a littlee thin. Moderate piney hop bittering. OK, hardly great.
3.4 Shipped to me by my wife on a trip to Portland. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark red-brown color with a huge foamy tan head that lingered and produced great lacing. The aroma was bready, sweet and fruity. The flavor was tangy, sweetish and malty with light notes of cherry, berry, wood and molasses. The finish was medium length dry malts, cherry and wood. Medium body. Solid.
2.7 On tap @ Northern Pacific Coffee Company. Clear dark red-brown pour. Malty sweet, but not too coffee-bitter. Medium body and carbonation. Decent mouth feel but not too complex.
3.2 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thick carbonated head. Malty taste with a slightly bitter finish. Tasty brown ale.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a clear dark copper brown with a finger-thick cream coloured head. Dark caramel aroma. Caramel malt, slightly nutty flavours. Rather simple, but decent.
2.8 2010-07-01. Brown body, small creamy beige head. 3+ Roasty toasty malt aroma, dry roast has coffee allusions. Flavour is a bit odd, pleasant toasty roast malt collides with a grainy malt character and odd bitterness that creates a jarring mix. Average palate. Not bad but did not work for me. Meh. On tap at Tap House Grill, Seattle
3.5 [3060-20100701] Tap. Mild grainy multi-grain aroma. Clear, dark red brown body with a long-lasting creamy tan head and thick lacing. More toasted multi-grain in the flavour. Medium body. Not sure how it fits but comes with a great name. (@ Taphouse, Seattle, WA)
2.7 Overall, this beer was terrible, it was about as vile a beer as they come. I’ll avoid it like the plague form now on. Pretty boring
4.2 Bottle courtesy of brewdad. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Smells of spice, some earth, tea, oats, nutty. Tastes of sweet caramel, some light chocolate, spicy, some sweet citrussy hints, nice bitterness. This is an unusual, but very enjoyable beer. Very porter like.
3.3 Dark brown/black, translucent, head is foamy and beige and fades. Aroma of citrus and roast malt. Taste has dark fruit sweetness with some mild floral hop and a very toasty bread malt body. Medium, lively carbonation. Kind of a grapey finish.
2.6 Bottle at Andy and Max’s fantasy tasting. This wasn’t very good, honestly. Swampy and vegetal, weird fruit and nut notes. Medium bodied. finishes astringent.
