India Porter

Chemin de Croix’s rich roasted and chocolate flavours, made evident by its dark mocha colour, are accompanied by fruity esters resulting from the yeast. A resinous bitterness contributes to the overall dryness. Brown malt – rather than roasted malt – invokes the typical signature of the first Porters, often generously hopped for exportation to India.

3.9 Intense coffee, dark, toasted malts, lightly charred. Clear very dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. More dark filter coffee, dark, toasted malts, dark grains, rye bread, dusty straw, soft carbonation, full bodied. Very nice Impy Porter, rich and well-balanced. Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza 17, Canada Water.
3.6 Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017 - London. Pours clear reddish brown with a light, tan cream head. The nose holds moderate roast, chocolate. Moderately sweet, with some brown bread, mellow earthy bitterness. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, with more brown bread, sugary cocoa. Decent overall.
3.2 Nothing wrong with this one. Well produced. Just utterly boring. Cold coffee with alcohol. Nice transparent dark color with a fine tan head. Good lacing. Looks nice and inviting. Medium + body and a fine carbonation level. Ok balanced sweetness versus bitterness. Flavor: cold coffee. [Bottle from Systembolaget in Sweden]
3.8 Dieu du Ciel Chemin de Croix Imperial Porter 747416 Lukt: Røsta malt, krydder, lakris og sjokolade. Utseende: Sort. Skum/kullsyre: Tynt skum. Smak: Røsta malt, krydder, lakris og sjokolade. Hvor: Lokal samling på Bryne. Medium: Flaske@330ml, ABV@6,3%, Når@06.10.2017
3.3 Keg at Beavertown Extravaganza. It pours deep brown with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasty grain, coffee, wood, toasted nut, brown bread and leather. The taste is dry, toasty, wood, earth, leather, spice, coffee grounds, brown bread, sweaty, leather, ash and some charred notes with a dry, spiced finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not bad, but I can’t appreciate the reason for very high ratings for this overall.
3.5 Breadis, very roasted, lots of licorice, carmelish, coffee, earthy. Taste is very bitter, earthy, slightly unpleasant.
4.2 Aroma and taste of roasty toasty malt with dark chocolate and coffee. Nice one
3.4 Tap at BeaverEx 2017, London. Colour is cloudy brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Chocolate, some bread, dryness and roasted malts. Basic nice casual porter.
3.3 Flaska från SB. Mörkt brun med ljusbrunt skum. Doft av kola, hasselnöt och röda bär. Lite rostad smak av kaffe och choklad.
3.7 Keg at Beaverfest. Malty choc aroma - not overpowering. Dark. Cola highlights. Creamy beige head. Heavy bitter all the way through. Choc undertones Medium bodied. Slick. Average carb. Slightly astringent finish Decent.
3.6 Bottle. Deep brown with small head. Roasty toasty malt with dark chocolate and coffee. No underlying sweetness at all. Very dry. Hoppy bitterness in the finish.
4.0 Bottle from CraftShack. Pours dark brown with a creamy/bubbly light tan head. Aroma is oh so chocolate. And following coffee. Med + body. Flavor is chocolate/coffee, but there’s something bitter evergreen. So it’s towards dry, but bitter, earthy, chocolate, coffee. Strong flavors. 6.3% isn’t all that Imperial, but the flavors are! Great stuff.
4.0 12 oz. bottle from Spruce Creek... pitch black appearance with full thick foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, toasted grains, barley. Flavor is big roast, deep barley, with a large dry texture. Has just enough bitterness to balance the sweetness. Wow, so good this took me by total surprise.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a very frothy tan head. Aromas are a wonderful mix of chocolate, charcoal, a bit of dark fruit.. a little more burnt than I expected and I’m liking it. Flavor is very astringent and scorched... especially up front. It’s almost like sucking on acidic charcoal or something for a second before things get a little more under control. Finish is decidedly hoppy... kind of a resin kick at the tail end that is interesting. I think a bit more residual sugar would really help this beer out and help smooth out the transition from start to finish.
4.1 @le Trappiste, Le Havre - dark beer with big bubbles left, nice lace; very roasted chocolatey and vanilla aroma; a good malt backbone, tasty and rounded palate , moderate carbonation; bitter, grainy and quite dry; very long roasted chocolate and walnuts finish; almost smokey
3.8 Pours dark brown, with ruby reflections and thin creamy head. Smells like roasted fruit and cocoa, with some smoke. Dry cold roasted cocoa in the mouth, with a nice bitter finish. Good one
3.7 Bottled: Pours black with ruby highlights. Small head. Roasted aroma with big chocolate character. Also some coffee. Smooth mouth feel. Roasted flavour with coffee and chocolate followed by a big, hoppy bitterness.
1.8 Bottle from Systembolaget (6.3%) A dark cloudy beer with a taste of coffee. It wasn't my kind of beer even if I like coffee
4.0 Mörkbrun/svart med ljusbrunt skum. Doftar och smakar mycket kaffe, choklad och lite lakrits. Torr bra beska
3.5 2 finger frothy, light tan head. Deep, very dark brown beer. Aroma is bakers chocolate, dark rye bread, nuts, light caramel, very light spices and dark roasted coffee with a clear note of citric hops. Really pleasant and has a ’fireplace’ vibe to it. Taste is fresh yeast, coffee grounds, light bakers chocolate and some hops at the back. Anti-climactic to say the least but still good. Medium-thick mouthfeel. Medium-high, lingering and passive bitterness. Semi-oily. Rich and creamy. Mouthfilling. Juicy in a IPA sort of way. Overall: A good Imp. Porter with the achilles heel being the taste, it just feels way too gentle and one-dimensional. The decently sized hop notes, however, makes the beer feel a bit more interesting and it still manages to be a good beer, all in all.
3.9 34.1cl bottle. dark brown/black color. small dark brown head. malts, hops, chocolate, coffee, raisins, medium to high bitterness. medium carbonation.
3.9 Flaska från SB. En Old Style India Porter. Medium beska. Riktigt trevlig!
2.4 Bottle from Systembolaget (6,3%). Black with beige head. Aroma is roasted coffee. Taste is chocolate and roasted coffee. Gives a somewhat bitter tail.
3.9 Bottle from John’s Grocery, which was my 10000th place rating, and this, rating #20,000,000. [alternative facts] Dark brown, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, leather, caramel, tobacco. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, tobacco. Medium bodied, chewy, mild lingering bitterness. Nice. Bet this is amazing on tap. Too bad I’m only having it from my own kegerator on the top of Sears Tower. [more alternative facts] 100th imperial porter! [not an alternative fact].
4.0 Really pleasent aroma. Roasted malt with hints of coffee and rather smoky. Dark brown with a light brown head. Smooth and balanced taste. Great stuff!
3.9 On tap at St Augustine’s in Vancouver. A black beer with a faint malted nose. Big coffee and chocolate notes to be had here. Moderately sweet. Big roasted aftertaste. 3.9
3.4 Bottle. Dark brown beer with a tan head. Roast and light chocolate aroma with light grapefruit. Roast and light toasty flavor with light marshmallow ad light grapefruit. Medium bodied. Roast and light cocoa lingers with light marshmallow and light grapefruit.

Roast, coffee, black chocolate cream, cereal, caramel note. Light to medium sweet, quite round, light to medium dry bitter ; nice balance. Medium good body, light to medium oily texture, average to soft carbonation, coffee dry lasting finish. Overall, awesome. Utterly delicious :)
3.7 Bottle, 33cl. ABV listed as 6.3%. Darkest brown color with a large, lasting khaki head. Aroma is very nice, roasty, dark chocolate, coffee, molasses piney hops. Full flavor, somewhat sweet and also bitter, chocolate and pine. Medium full body, smooth yet with fairly high carbonation. Enjoyable black IPA or hoppy porter or what have you.
