Dieu du Ciel! Fumisterie

Dieu du Ciel! Fumisterie

Fumisterie is a beer that sits at the intersection of an english and german ale. It is full-bodied, malty and has a slight caramel flavour. The organic hemp seeds incorporated during the brewing process give it a unique and original taste. The hop flavour comes through delicately in the after taste.

Fumisterie, which loosely translates as “smoke screen”, was given its name in reaction to laws – created under false pretext – that prohibit hemp crops, a beneficial plant with multiple ecological uses.

2.6 Bottle thanks to Dany. Pours clear amber. White head. Nose is sea water, salt, hops, sweet malt, grass and chlorinated cleaning agents. Something’s off. Taste is mostly caramel and chlorine - with some sweet malt, light herbal notes and mild grassy hops. Medium body.
3.7 Bottle, courtesy of Enjoyit. A hazy, orange-brown beer with a dense, beige head. The aroma is mostly hoppy, with resins and lemon. Malty sweetness too. The flavor is also quite bitter, some herbal notes blend in, and there’s a malty lightly caramel flavor too. Bitter finish. Full-bodied and nicely carbonated. A quite nice one, but sort of disappears in the crowd. 110129
3.6 (Bottle, Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm) Amber colour with brief, beige head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of caramel, orange peel, marmalade and hints of herbs (can’t really pinpoint the hemp, though). Fruity taste with caramel, orange, dried apricots and a generous, but well balanced, citrussy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fairly sweet. Well balanced and quite tasty.
3.4 (Bottle) Pours reddish amber/copper with creamy sand coloured head. The aroma holds clear caramel malt tones alongside notes of cookies, caramelized nuts and toffee. Apricot and marmalade fruitiness. Subtle hops and spices in the background. Really good malt profile on the nose. The flavour is light to medium sweet, light bitter and tiny acidic. Cookies, nuts and caramel alongside a subtle spiciness. The mouthfeel is soft, clean and light sticky with light to medium carbonation. Malty finish. Medium bodied.
2.9 Old Rating. Pours slightly hazy dark amber with a moderate head. Looks decent with a quite attractive colour. Has a nose full of grain and malt. Some fruit and sugar, as well as an odd (but pleasant) earthy funk that may be from the hemp. Earthy and slightly herbal. Noticeably hoppy, but with a big sweet malt finish. Tasty, again in an odd sort of way somehow. I’m thinking maybe the hemp is doing a bunch of things here that the palate is not used to. A rather full, slightly creamy mouth feel. An interesting beer across the board, but one I’d want to lay my hands on a coupe more times just to better understand what’s happening
3.5 Bottle. Pours a clear ruby hue with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet caramel, some floral hops. The flavor is basically like a rich amber ale; caramel, toasted malts, some sweet hops, earthy. Enjoyable.
3.3 12oz Bottle Pours out amber/brown topped with a small sand head. Aroma was of hops, sweet caramel, spice, and some toast malts. Taste was more of the odd spice, sweetness, nuts, and grass.
3.4 Bottle 341ml. Light unclear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, dried fruit, light roasted and nutty, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration, overriped dark fruit, dusty malt and hops. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110129]
3.0 Bottle 341ml @ fonefan Pours cloudy amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, dried fruits and caramel. Taste is medium sweet with a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.2 Bottle @ Ulfborg Weekend, Jan 2011. Pours cloudy amber with small bubbles on top. Spices, herbs, caramel, bread and pepper. Dry and goppy end with notes of peach and grapefruit. Medium bodied.
3.1 Bottle 34,1 cl. Courtesy of Enjoyit. Pours amber with a slight haze and a rough off-white head. Sweet caramel aroma. Medium body, lots of caramel, a little licorice balanced by a dry hoppiness. 290111
1.8 Nice foggy amber body, decent off-white head. Aroma of fermenting malts mixed with some hops. Taste is malts with a wet finish. Can’t really pick out the hemp at all. It’s an average beer but a very poor hemp beer.
2.9 Bottle. Pours out in a hazy reddish copper colour with a small bubbly off-white foam. Rather sharp aroma of toasted malts, caramel, grass and anise-seeds. Medium-bodied with notes of caramel and toasted malts with dryish undertones of pepper and grass. Medium-bitter astringent finish of toasted malts grass and red berries.
2.9 Slightly unappealing cloudy, medium brown color with tan head. Nice penetrating malty aroma. Strange malty taste, but mouthfeel is nice. HMmm.
3.7 Bottle at Green Lion, Malmø. Clear red/amber - white head. Nice hoppy, herbal notes, grassy, hemp, caramel, nutty, sweetness, fruity, sweet malty, recidual sugar, light bitter hoppy.
3.2 341 mL bottle from Dépanneur Simon Anthony in Montréal, served in a snifter. Pours clear copper with a small, creamy white head. The head quickly fades but leaves a small amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are aromas of caramel, grass, flowers and pine. The flavour begins moderately bitter and becomes more so. There is a touch of malty sweetness at the beginning, but this quickly dissipates towards a long, dry hoppy bitter finish. On the palate, it is medium-full in body with a dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent beer, but not as interesting as I had expected. There is not much in the way of hemp flavour or aroma, but the bitter hoppy finish is beautiful. The caramel malts were also a delight. 2010-09-27
3.3 Draught, 5% at the brewpub. Mild malty aroma. Almost clear deep amber colour. Small creamy tan head. The flavour starts off nutty, turning creamy and finishing with a mild, flowery aroma hop note and some vanilla. Mild carbonation.
3.1 In a pint glass. Pours copper, small white-ish head, fades rather fast --- but the lace remains. Quite a strong caramel aroma, with some earthy and leaves hints. Malt aroma is thin. Taste is quite bitter, though I can’t really tell whether it’s the hops or the hemp. Either way, the bitterness falls somewhere between resin and grassy. Caramelized, with some hints of toast. For one, I think this one is needlessly bitter, especially on the finish : it’s a pretty straightforward beer, after all -- in other words, not the most "balanced" product, and it’s not like you can feel you’re really drinking something special as far as speciality "herbs" are concerned.
3.2 Bière rousse de 5.5% d’alcool, très mousseuse, ressemble beaucoup à une IPA, houblon intense, bon nez.
2.9 341ml bottle. Pours a hazy rusted colour with eggshell head that laces out quickly, but it sticks around. The nose is....different. There’s some malt upfront but this big underlying thing with a little sweetness I can’t pout a name to underneath. Sort of bland on the palate with a little sweetness and almost no finish.
3.4 Aroma is cereal, herbs, earthy, light smoke. Appearance is amber, orange, sparkling. Medium body, creamy, lively carbonation, lightly bitter finish.
3.5 Pours copper-caramel color with very little head and cloudy appearance. Aroma is initially fresh and intriguing - earthy, like a moss-covered coastal forest after a fresh rainfall, caramel, nuts and light grassy hops. Flavor is earthy, sweet hints of dried berries and dark fruits, undertones of bitter fruit pits and spices in the finish. Body is smooth and velvety, like a cask-conditioned ESB. This is a very smooth-drinking ale that I believe to be under-rated. I would buy it again.
3.8 Slightly unclear medium dark red with a persistent dense white head that has a brown-yellow tinge. Red-gold highlights. Fruit and cherry and berry alefruit aroma recalls ESB. Nose has zingy citrus and I like it. Taste those cherries and fruits, the lemon tang, plus a centering note of excellent yet subtle british style hop. Some caramel on the finish leaks in as well. The feel is enveloping, the fruit flavors are engaging, but it is the aroma that keeps me re-examining this glass of DDC excellence.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma. Fruity malty caramel flavor with some weak hoppy hints. Has a fruity malty caramel finish with some weak smoky hints.
3.6 10.05.22 dark orange / reddish color soft carb small white rim. A:Caramel, citrusy and clean. F:Superb maltiness, full body mouthfeel is excellent. Finish is bitter and short.
3.1 Very unusual beer. Aroma is malty, slightly spicy with the hemp somewhere in there. Flavour is malty with a hint of yeast and full of caramel and slightly hoppy. The hemp is kind of hard to distinguish, but this is a solid beer.
3.6 This beer is very good, in fact, one of my favorite herb ale beer. This beer is a must try. After taste of hops and hemp. Wow!
3.9 I love this beer for its ’grain’ like character. nice malt, butterscotch and hops richness on the nose with a ton of cereal and slight roast. It is a nice rich beer with good body some roasted notes and a somewhat bitter bite at the end. good brew. a nice session beer for sure!
